Beyond the stuff I've read on other threads about playbooks and dynasty improvements, I wish the game had an option that allowed the user to increase the speed of the action, or made the game closer to real speed. NHL08 has a control that lets you speed the game up, and it allows for a really enjoyable balance between authentic speed and playability that each user can choose for themselves. I've grown tired of receivers taking 5 seconds to run from the 20 to the endzone.

Also, I think that turbo should be eliminated. If the gameplay was sped up, turbo would be marginalized anyway, but beyond that, turbo isn't the most realistic thing in the world, and it seems to make running look much more awkward as well.

I agree, but the "Turbo" button has it's good side. For example: If I run a toss play with my RB, I don't wanna sprint until I see a hole open up.

The turbo button needs to be in the game...It models real life situations. You are not going to run full speed through a hole as a runningback, doing so would elimanate your ability to avoid defenders and would result in the current video game results a two yard or less run. I can agree with you on the WR aspect however, I think the cpu controlled players like a WR should use a turbo burst to help them create seperation and to run their routes. Right now I just don't see that happening.

well first off, often rbs will run full speed through a hole, and i think that there should be a turbo button to, players (expecially running backs) never really have a burst in this game.

well first off, often rbs will run full speed through a holeNot full bore sprinting speed though. Maybe they'll hit it hard, but not at the same speed that they'd use if they were in the open field. Stride length, for one.

Turbo's just fine, as these others have said. The only real unrealistic part of it is how it's used by players, not that it exists. There's always that little extra burst of speed when a player needs it.

I didn't really think of it in terms of running backs going through the hole. My normal offensive style is pass pass pass, so I don't really have that issue. I guess it would also come up in kick/punt returns, where somebody has to slow down to get behind blockers and then burst through a hole.

What about making differing degrees of speed available on the left stick (for 360)? If I hold it forward a bit, my guy moves slower, but when I hold it all the way forward, he runs at full speed. I don't know if it would be practical to accomplish and might not have the available space within the stick itself to provide much delineation between trot and full speed, but it could solve your problem and mine at the same time.

This is more of a technical question, but is speeding the game up to real life possible considering the limitations on games and consoles right now?

If you mean, speeding up the game in terms of a slider like in NHL, it's absolutely possible. Especially on the next-gen consoles. Many games have similar sliders, EA's football series is one of the few that doesn't, actually.

The only problem with using the left stick like that and adding turbo to it is that the majority of gamers use the stick full in whichever direction anyway. We'd have turbo-running scrambling QBs all over the place online.

In real life, if you're a HB you sure as hell better be hitting the hole full-speed or some linebacker is going to put you in place.

Full-speed and full stride are different though. You're not going to be using track speed in the hole.

Well, not necessarily. On dives, you should be going low to the ground and as fast as possible. Now, on longer plays you might want to go about 85% until you can find an opening. Watch Adrian Peterson run through the tackles. There's a reason he was so good on HB dives, it's impossible to tackle a bull at full speed. You'd be suprised, but even when you're running full speed, they mean it when they say "the game slows down".
