New Era in Arizona
Hello, thank you for reading the Cardinal Times. We will be giving you the information ont the Cardinals all year long. This is the first, of what we hope to be many, many many issues. Big news happened today, so, let's get started!
New owner of Cardinals
Today, a new era ended, and a new one began. The Bidwell family, yes, everyone of them, stepped down today. William V. Bidwell, is 72 years old, decided to call it quits. It comes as a suprise that all of the other members would step down with him, instead of just passing it down the family name.
"I'm 72," said William V. Bidwell at his press conference. "I'm tired, and I need to get away from work. Its a sad day, as the Arizona Cardinals will no longer be with the Tidwell family. I wanted to pass it down, but, my family said I were to step down, they were too. I can't argue with my family's wishes, so, I sold the team."
"If my dad doesn't want to do it anymore, than neither do I." said William V. Bidwell Jr.. "I don't want to be involved if my father will not be, and my family agreed. What I really want to do anyway, is DANCE!!!"
The new owner was also announced today. Scott Adams Dilbert will be the new owner, and his Vice President will be Wally.

The Vice President
"I hope to bring this franchise wins," said Dilbert. "I'll try to be fair to the players, but, I want to win, so I'll be stern, I guess."
"I told Dilbert this was a bad idea," said Wally. "But will anybody listen to Wally? Nooooo. I'm just along for the ride. First chance, I get, I'm stabbing him in the back, and taking off for the Cowboys!!!"
More updates to come as this stroy unfolds. So long!!!

Our 2003 Predictions
Hello, thanks again for reading the Cardinal Times. The regular season is just around the corner, and we are excited!! We hope you are too, and we sure you are you die hard Cardinal fan you!! Let's get started on our predictions for 2003!
Cardinal Season 2003
The Cardinals are in for another tough year we predict. I know that may make some of you angry, but you know its true. We will tell you the strengths, and weaknesses of the team.
Strengths
The offensive line is the biggest strength this year. If Pete Kendall can make a full recovery by week 4, this team will have a great offensive line. Big Leonard Davis is a monster at right guard. 6'6", 355 pounds of muscle. He is only 24, and already is one of the best lineman in the league. He has a bright future in front of him. Anthony Clement is another big man at right tackle, 6'7", 355 pounds. He is a little slow, but he makes up for it with his amazing strength. May be a little questionable against good pass rushers this year. Frank Garcia is an experience offensive lineman at center, that will not make dumb mistakes. If he stays healthy, he can be a big suprise for the Cardinals. L.J. Shelton raps up the offensive line at left tackle. He is a monser run blocker, and if the Cardinals can get their tailbacks in gear, they should get good amount of yards.
Weaknesses
You could go around almost the entire team, and say that is a weakness. But, the biggest weakness we could find is their quarterback situation. The starter will be 32 year old Jeff Blake. Lets face it, the best of his playing days are long gone. He was a good mobile quarterback, but, his age has caught up to him. He also doesn't have the best arm, which will be a problem for his young receivers this year, who need a good quarterback to be a good contributor. Behind him on the depth chart is Josh McCown. He played an a couple situations last year, and did not perform well. On 18 passes last year, he completed 7 of them, with 2 interceptions. Left Southern Methodist University after three years to go to Sam Houston State to prove he could lead a strong passing attack. He is very raw right now, and will not perform well in high pressure situations for this team early in his career. Finally, third on the depth chart is Preston Parsons. Picked up as a undrafted free agent from Northern Arizona, and has not played a single NFL game. I don't think we can expect a Kurt Warner out of him, but you never know...
Questionable
The question of this team this year is the runningback situation. Arizona picked up 34 year old Emmit Smith because they believe that he can still play. We don't know, but, he could still have something left in him. If he can stay healthy, he could have a 1,000 yard season. Marcel Shipp is behind him who had a decent year last year, 834 yards, 6 TDs, on 188 carries. I don't think Arizona is leaving their future on him, but, he could be a good third down back in the future.
Our Prediction
This team has a lot of weaknesses and question marks to be a playoff contender this year. They could have a rookie standout by either Bryant Johnson or Anquan Boldin, who are both one and two on the receiver depth chart. But, we can't expect a rookie to carry the passing game, especially with a washed up quarterback in Jeff Blake. They have to play the 49ers, the Seahawks, and the Rams twice, and all of them have a lot of talent, and all of them are serious Super Bowl contenders this year, while it looks like again this year, the Cardinals will have to build off the draft. Our prediction: They could suprise a few teams and knock them out of a chance to make the playoffs, but don't expect a .500 season. 2-14
Conference Outlook
1. St. Louis Rams- We expect them to win the superbowl this year. They have a superstar offense, with some solid defensive players this year, and will dominate. Marshall Faulk will be the number one offensive threat this year, running, and catching out of the backfield. With the two superstar receivers with Isaac Bruce, and Torry Holt, the secondary will have problems all game. Kurt Warner will once again, be the ring leader of the greatest show on turf, taking over for Marc Bulger. He will be back to original form. Orlando Pace, Adam Timmerman, and the recent pickup of Kyle Turley, the offensive line will be a force to reckon with. The best duo of defensive ends this year, Grant Winstrom, and Leonard Little will give offensive coordinators headaches just thinking about how to stop them. Aeneas Williams and Adam Archuleta will be able to contain passing games. A Superbowl win for this team, this year. 13-3
2. Seattle Seahawks- This team will be a big improvement from last year. They have one of the best defenses in the game right now. Shawn Springs and Ken Lucas with Reggie Tongue will shut down the passing game. Anthony Simmons and Chad Brown, maybe the two best linebackers in the NFC. The two men in the middle, John Randle, and Norman Hand will clog holes up for the linebackers to hit. The offense is good too. Matt Hasselbeck will be a question this year, but they have a great backup in Trent Dilfer. And if they don't work out, put speedy quarterback Seneca Wallace in their to run around a bit. What can you say about Shaun Alexander "The Great." Speed, power, agile, and one of the best in the league. It doesn't hurt that he has a great left side of the field to run to with Steve Hutchinson and Walter Jones leading the way. Koren Robinson is the complete package for this passing game. He can jump, catch, and run. Darrell Jackson isn't too bad at it either. With Bobby Engram in the slot, they should have a great passing year. The only question is the quarterback, and that is the reason why they don't win the division this year, but they do make the playoffs. 10-6
3. San Francisco 49ers- When you hear the 49ers, what is the first thing you think of? Terrell Owens of course, and his amazing ability at catching the ball. You can press cover him, but he is so strong that he will run you over. You can play loose, but then he will catch it, and make moves to score. You can double cover, heck, even triple cover this guy, and he will still make the catch with his amazing leaping ability. Jeff Garcia isn't too bad of a quarterback either. He is mobile, decisive, and smart, a deadly combination in a quarterback. Garrison Hearst is a good tailback, but, he isn't an everydown back, which is why they will miss Kevan Barlow this season. He is gone for the year with a hip fracture. Another good offensive line, lead by right guard Ron Stone. Andre Carter lead the team in sacks last year with 13, and looks to improve that number this year. Bryant Young is a great, maybe top 3 defensive tackle in the league. Julian Peterson is a great linebacker, and has a solid cast with Derek Smith and Jeff Ulbrich. They have a great secondary with Ahmed Plummer and Jason Webster at corners, Zack Bronson at safety, and Tony Parrish at the other safety. With Barlow gone, and T.O.'s relationship with Jeff Garcia going horrible, they will have trouble winning games. They may contest for the playoffs, but don't count on it. 8-8
4. Arizona Cardinals- What can we say about the Cardinals? They are young, rebuilding team. They have some bright spots, like their offensive line, and their secondary, but that is about it. Their quarterback situation is a mess, runningbacks are a question, young receivers, a so-so defensive line, and an okay linebacker core. They need to have more solid spots, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. They have to stop teams from putting points on them, and thinking that they are a joke. A solid defense would be a good place to start. They have some good people coming out from the draft like Rod Davis from Southern Mississippi, Teddy Lehman, and D.J. Williams to name a few. But, this year, they will just have to try with what they got. Another down year for the Cardinals. 2-14
SuperBowl Prediciton
St. Louis Rams vs. New England Patroits
Winner- St. Louis Rams
Rookie to Watch Out For
Byron Leftwich- This kid will be an NFL quarterback star, and we think it will start this year. He is not very mobile, but an excellent pocket quarterback. An excellent arm that will only improve as the season goes on, and smartness that will also only improve. Marc Brunell will get injured this year, and Del Rio can put this kid in with confidence that he will get the job done.
Terrell Suggs- His stock rose dramitically from the combine, and we think it will prove dividend for the Ravens. He will start in the 3-4 defense, in which he has great teachers in Ray Lewis and Peter Boulware. He is fast, and will make solid tackles. A great linebacker to blitz around the outside because he has the speed to get there. A great year for this kid.
Troy Polamalu- Drafted in the first round with the 16th pick by the Steelers, this kid is a steal. He has great speed, and is a hard hitter. He can tackle the big backs like Eddie George, Ricky Williams, Stephen Davis, and Mike Alstott. Has the speed to get from side to side of the field, and get go get the picks. If they don't start this kid right away, then they will miss out on a lot this kid can provide for their defense.
Taylor Jackobs- This kid was a steal in the second round for the run and gun offense of Steve Spurrier. He has great speed for the slot, and will be able to sneak down field with the defense's main attention to Laveranues Coles and Rod Gardner. Once he catches the ball, he has the agility to make the cuts, and the speed to move down field. Don't be suprised to see this kid make big plays running streaks on playaction plays down the field for a big score.
Well that is it for now. So long!

What it takes against the Lions
Team Stats
None to report for both teams
Players to Watch
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/8- Charles Rogers (rookie)
This is the first game for the home state hero. He will be the number one target for Joey Harrington according to head coach Steve Mariucci. He is expected to be an early contributor to this team, and if the Cardinals shut him down, they will have to go to their running game, which is a big question for this squad.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/8- Dre' Bly
The Lions have a lot of confidence in Bly to play well this year. They put a lot of money into him this past offseason, and he will go against the weak receiving core of the Cardinals. If he doesn't have a field day picking balls off, then the Lions may have made a mistake in this guy.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/8- Robert Porcher
He is the all-time sack leader for this franchise, but, he is also 34 years old. An off year came along when he only got 6 sacks last year with 11 from the 2002 season. If he doesn't step up his play, he may retire by the end of the year, and a good offensive line like Cardinals will be giving him a great test.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Jeff Blake
He talked a lot about how he is washed up, and he isn't the mobile quarterback that he once was, well, we will see if we are right. He has young receivers to throw to, so it will be a challenge, but he has a weak secondary that he is going against, so he has to perform, or his job is in jeopardy.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Emmit Smith
Here is a big question mark. He is 34 years old, and the Cowboys thought that he was too old, and they did no longer want him. The Cardinals picked him out of despiration for a running game. This game against a weak Lions defense will prove if he can still contribute to an NFL team, or if he should go home and retire.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Adrian Wilson
Adrian Wilson last year came out of no where to be the star of the defense. He is looking to top the spectacular season with more tackles, and more interceptions this year. Joey Harrington will take the start, and we know that he will throw interceptions. Adrian Wilson should step up and pick those off. We also want to see if he can be a contributor with stopping the run.
How to Beat the Detroit Lions
Get pressure on Harrington
We all know that Joey Harrington is still young, and will throw interceptions. Get pressure on him, and make him either take a sack, or make him try to make a play, which will end up in interceptions for you.
Playaction, draws, trick plays
This team is young on the defensive side of the ball. They are all very raw, and will be easy to fool with playaction, and draws. Keep them on their heels all game, and you should be able to score on these guys.
Keep them out of field goal range
This team has an amazing kicker in Jason Hanson. He is automatic from 40-50 yards away. You have to keep them away from your 30 yard line all game, or they will get points on the board from Hanson's leg.

Opening Day 2003
Hello, thanks again for reading the Cardinal Times, your number one insider into Cardinal News. Can you smell the burgers cooking, the weather changing, the faces painted, the pigskin flying? That must meen that football is back in full swing!! The Cardinal fans were all excited for their team to get started.
The Cardinals traveled to Motor City, Detroit, Michigan to play the Detroit Lions in the first regular season game. These are two teams that are in the state of rebuilding, and both know that this may be the only win they can get this year. They were pumped, and were waiting for kickoff.

Finally, the coin toss came. Arizona chose heads, and it was tails. Detroit won the toss, and elected to receive. The NFL season was about to begin. The Cardinals lined up, Gramatica rose his hand, and kicked the ball down to the 2 yard line. Scotty Anderson took the kickoff to the 19 yard line. The NFL season is offically underway.
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image926.jpg
A really fuzzy picture of the first kickoff of 2003
The first quarter didn't have much action. Both teams seemed to try and get the run set up. Emmit Smith had his first carry of the season. It was a 5 yard toss play to the left side of the field. Also, rookie receivers Anquan Boldin, and Bryant Johnson caught their first NFL pass. Once again, no action in the first quarter. The score at the end of the first, 0-0.

The second quarter had Arizona striking first on the Lions. They were driving down the field from the previous quarter, and got into field goal range. Gramatica lined up, and nailed the 35 yard field goal. Nothing happened until the Cardinals were pinned at their own 1. Cardinals handed the ball off to Smith, but there was a crowd at the line. He tried to take it to the outside, but Lions defensive end Kalimba Edwards came in and tackled him. Safety to the Lions. That would be the score for halftime, Cardinals 3- Lions 2. More of a hockey or baseball score than a football score.

The third quarter is where the action started to pick up. The Cardinals struck first. Lions punt returner Eddie Drummond fumbled the punt, the Cardinals had field posistion at the Lions 17. Emmit Smith took the handoff, turned the corner, and dove for the endzone. Touchdown! Emmith Smith's first as a Cardinal. The Cardinals once again had an opportunity to score after Joey Harrington threw a pick to Duane Starks. But, they did not move the ball, and Gramatica missed the field goal. The Cardinals would score on a 58 yard pass from Jeff Blake to Jason McAddley. That would end the first half with Arizona on top 17-2.

This and a TOUCHDOWN
The Lions would not give up though. Down by 15, they decided to strike early in the fourth. Detroit scored on a 9 yard run by James Stewart. They went for 2, and got it on a pass from Harrington to Cory Schlesinger to put them down by 7. The score Arizona 17- Detroit 10. The Cardinals would strike again late in the fourth. Emmit Smith got his second touchdown run of the game with 3:00 left to put them on top 24-10. The Lions would go three-and-out on their next posistion, but, Larry Foster would fumble the punt, and Wali Rainer from the Lions would pick it up, and run it 46 yards for the touchdown. That was huge. The Lions were only down by a touchdown. The Cardinals would punt the ball at the 2 minute warning. The Lions would have the ball with 1:56 left in the game.
They came out in shotguns, a 10 yard pass to Az-Zahir Hakim. They got up, ran a no huddle offense. They would eventually get all the way down to the Cardinal 16 yard line. 4th and 1. They need to convert it to keep their hopes of tieing the game alive. 4th and 1, the Lions come out in a I-formation with two recievers and 1 tight end on the right side of the field. They need to get to the 15 yard line. They hand the ball off to Stewart to the strong side of the field. He tried to take it to the outside, but Adrian Wilson came up, and hit him, and Stewart was short by a half of a yard. With only two timeouts, and 1:00 there was no way they could get the ball back. Game over. Cardinals win 24-17.

Thanks for the reply, even though your a certified enemy. Michigan State, pfff [glare] [laugh] I was going to be the Lions, but the Cardinals just have so many more problems than Detroit has. No coach, weak team, bad location. Makes for a better franchise report, while Detroit has a weak team, good coach, and a good location.

Michigan. pfff [glare] [laugh]. Yeah, detroit is fun. Trade away all you're old D players and build up a young, awesome team. Good luck with the cardinals. Any chance we could see the Calgary Cardinals?? :p

http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/26- Shaun Alexander
Sean Alexander "The Great" will be a key factor in the game. He is a big factor running the ball, as well as catching the ball out of the backfield. He had a big day cathing a running the ball, 79 yards on 13 carries, and 9 catches for 95 yards. But, that was against a weak defense in New Orleans, let's see how he will respond to the weak defense in Arizona.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/26- Matt Hasselbeck
Matt Hasselbeck returned to the quarterback posistion last week against New Orleans. The question is, is the "HasselBack?" He threw a TD pass last week to Koren Robinson, but also threw 2 interceptions. Arizona has a decent secondary, let's see how he will respond after a bad week. If he responds well, they have their quarterback, if not, they may have to look at Trent Dilfer to take some snaps for this team to win.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/26- Entire Secondary
The Seahawks forced 4 interceptions last week against Aaron Brooks and his stud receiving core. They will be facing a younger wide receiving corp this week, let's see if they can get another interception fest like last week.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Emmit Smith
Emmit Smith had a great week last week getting 26 carries for 94 yards and 2 TDs. He played an awful lot last week. Let's see if he can be a solid performer against the strong defense from Seattle, or is his age finally caught up to him.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Anquan Boldin (rookie)
He came out of nowhere last week to catch 4 passes for 65 yards. Most of his passes were huge 3rd down conversions. He was against a weak corner in Chris Cash. This week is either Ken Lucas, or rookie Marcus Trufant. Both of them are faster than him, so let's see how he responds.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Duane Starks
He will have a tough task this week in stopping Koren Robinson from running down the field. He picked off Joey Harrington last week, let's see if he can be solid against Matt Hasselbeck.
How to beat the Seattle Seahawks
Get the crowd involved
It is your first home game of the year. There should be a good crowd to come and see if this team is good this year. Get them involved, get them loud and pumped. Maybe you can cause a few falsestarts on the Seahawks, which could swing momentum your way. Lord knows you will need that to have a shot to beat the Seahawks.
Get Hasselbeck doubting himself
He had a bad week last week against the Saints. He is coming into this game unsure of himself. Make sure you keep it that way. Confuse him, and intercept the ball when you have an opportunity. Do not let a big play on you, or he will get his confidence, and he can be a dangerous passer than.
Get the ball to Boldin
This kid came out of nowhere last week. Let's get the ball into this kid's hands, and let him do his thing. He is a playmaker, let him prove it to you. Crossing routes allow for this to happen so he could make his moves to get down field. Don't forget to mix it up with Emmit Smith on a draw.

Cardinal Times
A Close one for the Birds
Hello, thanks again for reading the Cardinal Times, your number one source of news, from trade rumors, to depth chart positioning, we are there for your Arizona Cardinals. They had a game this Sunday, so let's get into it.
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image982.jpg
A beautiful shot of Sun Devil™ Stadium in Tempe, Arizona
A disapointing turnout came to the Arizona against Seattle game. 49,093 out of the expected 72,563. 67% percent of the capacity came. As you can see in the picture, the entire top deck was nearly empty. Looks like owner Steve Dilbert has some work to do to get the fans in the seat, if he wants to get some profits.
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image985.jpghttp://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image986.jpg
Two of our keys to the game, Reggie Tongue, apart of the Seattle secondary, and Emmit Smith to the right warming up for the divisional matchup
Seattle got the ball first, and did not score on their first drive. That is because on their first play, Shaun Alexander fumbled the ball. Cardinals recovered the ball. They went three-and-out, and Bill Gramatica kicked a 37 yard field goal to put them on top 3-0. Josh Brown added a 47 yard field goal before the first ended. 3-3 after one quarter of play.
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image989.jpg
FUMBLE!!!
The second quarter was more of the same. Both teams were going three-and-out throughout the second quarter. Bill Gramatica kicked a 32 yard field goal. That put the Cardinals on top 6-3. Josh Brown kicked another 47 yard field goal before the half was over to tie the game up. At the end of two quarters, the score was tied. Arizona 6- Seattle 6.
The third quarter, Arizona was driving. But, they were shot down on third down, and was forced to punt the ball. That is when Arizona punter Scott Player got out did what he does best. He is a player that Arizona is very, very fortunate to have. He punted the ball, and it went out, at the 1 yard line! Adrian Wilson gave a speech to his team before they went out, and it fired them up! The next play, Seattle gave the ball to Shaun Alexander, and was hit by Adrian Wilson, and did not fall out of the endzone! Safety! That fired up the entire Arizona team! But, Shaun Alexander would do something good for his team. They kept pounding the ball with him, and they finally broke one. A 45 yard run by Alexander, put them on top. Seattle went for two, and got it. 14-6, Seattle on top at the end of the third quarter.

A 45 yard run TD by Shaun Alexander
The Seattle offense didn't take too long to strike. They had the ball at the beginning of the 4th quarter, and Matt Hasselbeck threw a 60 yard TD pass to Koren Robinson. They went for two, but were stopped. 20-6, Seattle on top. Jeff Blake just couldn't get it going for the Arizona offense. The only reliable target was Anquan Boldin. They did not convert on 4th down at the Seattle 43, and it looked as if it was over. But, Adrian Wilson came up big for the Cardinal defense again, he hit Alexander, and forced a fumble! Cardinals recovered! Jeff Blake was hit hard on the first play, and left with a migrane headache. That left it up to Josh McCown. 4th down, he pump fakes, THROWS IT TO A WIDE OPEN BOLDIN... TOUCHDOWN!! They are only down by 5. But, Seattle only needed to hang onto the ball with 2:55 left. They held it until the 2 minute warning. 3 and 1, they need to convert to end the game, and they get it. Game over. The final score, Seattle 20- Arizona 15.

Players to Watch
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/9- Brett Favre
Without doubt, the leader of this team. In his 11 years with the Packers, has never missed a game. Tore up the Lions secondary last week throwing for 219 yards, 4 TDs, and 0 interceptions. Their offense focuses around him, and if he doesn't play well, most of the time his team doesn't either. Let's see how he plays against the Cardinal defense, which is pretty good.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/9- Ahman Green
Another big time player for the Packers. He is a threat running the ball, inside or outside, and catching the ball out of the backfield. He also tore up the Lions defense last week, rushing for 149 yards on 20 carries, also while cathing 9 passes for 63 yards and 2 TDs. Watch him to bust some carries to the outside because of the slowness of the linebackers.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/9- Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila
The right end of the Packers front four has 2 sacks this season. He will need to get pressure on Jeff Blake this week to force some interceptions, not to mention try and stop the running game.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Emmit Smith
Once again, our focus is on Emmit Smith. He wowed us last week by running for 94 yards on 26 carries, getting 2 TDs. Then he has a horrible week against the Seahawks, getting 2 yards on 11 carries. If the Cardinals are going to win some games, they can't have an up- and- down season from Emmit Smith, they need him to show up every week. Let's see if he shows up to Tempe, Arizona against the Packers.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Adrian Wilson
Our attention turns to the solid safety, Adrian Wilson. He has played solid against Detroit and Seattle. Whether it is blitzing to create pressure, helping with the run, or knocking down the 3rd and long pass, he has been there for the Cardinal defense. He will have to do the same this week against the over powering Green Packers for the Cardinals to have a chance.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Kyle Vanden Bosch
He was impressive against Detroit, getting a sack and 5 tackles, but didn't seem to show up against Seattle. They need to get pressure on Favre, and he is one of the people that needs to get in there. Whether it is by blowing the offensive lineman up so the blitzer can get in, or going around the outside to hit the quarterback, he needs to do it, or the Cardinals will get lit up.
An Interview with Head Coach Dave McGinnis
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image002.jpg
Head Coach, Dave McGinnis
Cardinal Times: Hello, thanks for reading the Cardinal Times. We are still your number one source for Cardinal news. We are here with Dave McGinnis, the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. We'd like to thank you for being here.
Dave McGinnis: No problem.
Cardinal Times: So, what is different about this year's team than the rest?
Dave McGinnis: Well, the receivers to start with. Bryant Johnson and Anquan Boldin are our number one and two receivers. We have confidence that they will perform this early in their career. Also, I think we have some more heart this year. Adrian Wilson has stepped up as leader of the defense, and we hope for him to do that for many more years with the frachise.
Cardinal Times: Not one mention of the new owner?
Dave McGinnis: I try not to think of that too much. I mean, he will do a great job, but I don't want to think about the front office too much, and worry about winning football games.
Cardinal Times: Do you feel your job is in jeopardy?
Dave McGinnis: I always feel my job is in jeopardy. When you don't perform, then your job is in jeopardy. Anybody can get fired at any time if you don't perform, from me, to Jack Del Rio, to Bill Parcells.
Cardinal Times: You signed Emmit Smith this offseason, and he seems to be haveing a up and down year thus far. Are you concerned?
Dave McGinnis: Not at all. Emmit Smith will perform when crunch time comes, and we will need him there. He works hard at practice everyday, and we expect a great game with him againist Green Bay. Plus, if he doesn't play well, we still have Marcel Shipp, who is an excellent back.
Cardinal Times: A lot of people have said that Jeff Blake is washed up, and you guys made a mistake in signing him. What do you say to the critics?
Dave McGinnis: He isn't washed up! Sure, he may have lost a step into his 30s, but, we don't want him to be a scrambler. If that is what we wanted, we would have signed Brad Banks. Its nice to have a scrambler, but we want a guy that can step in, and make decisions. We feel we have that player.
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image000.jpg
Cardinal Times: Both of your left guards went down in pre-season. So, you put Chris Dishman in there. Do you think that he has done a good job?
Dave McGinnis: We think he has done an excellent job. To step from right guard to left guard is a hard transistion. We think he has done great.
Cardinal Times: You seem to have trouble converting on 3rd downs. You are dead last in the league. Do you know why you are having so much trouble?
Dave McGinnis: Lack of execution. These guys are young though, and its the beginning of the season. We will start converting more once the season rolls along.
Cardinal Times: There has been rumors circleing around that Duane Starks maybe traded to get another pick in the draft. Is this true?
Dave McGinnis: Those are absolutely false. We hope to keep him for the 5 years on his contract.
Cardinal Times: Is there anybody in the draft that you are taking an eye to?
Dave McGinnis: Its a little too early to tell right now. We will have to wait and see to what will happen.
Cardinal Times: When Jeff Blake went down last week, Josh McCown came in and threw a touchdown pass and gave you guys a shot at winning. Is there any chance that we might see him start some time this season?
Dave McGinnis: While McCown did great coming in and filling for Blake, and we thank him for doing it, as long as Blake is healthy, he will be the guy under center, taking snaps for us this season.
Cardinal Times: We heard that backup free safety, Micheal Stone, is getting the start at corner over David Barrett, is this true?
Dave McGinnis: This is true. We feel that Stone is faster, and gives us that edge that we need. Barrett will be moved to nickelback for our 3rd down situations.
Cardinal Times: Thank you for taking the time with us.
Dave McGinnis: No problem.
How to Beat the Green Bay Packers
Zone Blitz
You can not blitz with one on one coverage with Brett Favre, he will tear you up. You are going to have to confuse him, which is very difficult. Even after 12 years in the league, he stills studies it like it is his very first year. But you also need to get pressure on him. You can't let him sit back, or he will tear you apart there.
Outside Containment
Ahman Green has a lot of speed. He can burn everyone on the defensive side of the ball. Outside containment is key. If Ahman Green gets to the sidelines, running or catching the ball, he is going to score, because nobody is going to catch him.
Control the Clock
The best way to stop the Green Bay offense is to keep them off the field. You are going to have to pound the ball and take time off the clock. You have to convert on third down if you expect to win this one. Don't expect a fumble recovery to help you stay in the game, though Ahman Green has been known to fumble.

Thanks man, replies help me keep doing this. I don't know about moving yet. If I do, it won't be for a couple of years. I might just try to upgrade the stadium before I make a move. I really excited about the draft. I might pick up Eli, or Ben, since I edited his ratings. Many possibilites. Than of course, free agency. I'm really excited about the off-season coming up.

Chesseheads melt in Tempe?
Hello, thanks again for reading the Cardinal Times, your number one source of Cardinal news, from trade rumors, to depth chart posistioning, we are there. Arizona had another home game this Sunday, so let's get into it.
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image020.jpg
A shot of Sun Devil™ Stadium in Tempe, Arizona
Another disapointing turnout this week. Though, it was a boost in attendence from last week, it was still disapointing. 52,757 showed up out of expected 60,435 after lowering upperlevel ticket prices. 72% of the capacity showed up to see the Cardinals play football.
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image030.JPG
One of our keys to the game, Brett Favre, warms up, and looks like a giant at this angle
Green Bay won the coin toss, and elected to receive the football. Action was about to get under way. Bill Gramatica kicked it, and went to the 1 yard line. Robrt Ferguson took the kickoff, and ran it to the 34 yard line. The game had begun!
Well, not much action came in the first quarter. For all you fans that love defensive struggles, the first quarter was defintiely for you. Arizona had a chance to score, but, Gramatica missed the 37 yard field goal with 6:27 left in the first wide right. No score after one quarter of play.
The second quarter had Green Bay striking. It was early in the quarter when Ahman Green took a 21 yard run to the house for the first score of the game. 7-0. On the next drive, Arizona took it to the house. A 37 yard pass from Jeff Blake to, who else, Anquan Boldin to even the score up at 7 a piece. Green Bay would score another touchdown before the half was over. A 3 yard run by William Henderson put the cheeseheads on top 14-7 at halftime.
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image042.jpg
"21 yards, no problem." says Ahman Green as he dashes for the endzone

He is tall, Anquan Boldin cathing a TD pass over Al Harris
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image050.jpg
Big bruiser, William Henderson rumbles his way into the endzone to put Green Bay up at halftime
The 3rd quarter had Arizona receiving the ball. It took a while, before Brett Favre threw one of his 3 picks to Duane Starks, who took it all the way to the Green Bay 36 yard line. It only took 4 plays, before Jeff Blake threw a 3 yard touchdown pass to, you guessed it, Anquan Boldin in the corner of the endzone. The tied the game up at 14. Gramatica added a field goal with 3 seconds left in the quarter. On the kickoff, Dendrew Rubin took it from the 6, and went Road Runner on the poor Wiley Coyoties. 94 yards for the score. 21-17 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Once is nice, two is better, Boldin over Harris for the score
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image056.jpg
Mmmee mmeee, that is Road Runner for too slow, too sorry as Rubin makes Rocket Skates seem slow here for the TD
The fourth quarter, the Packers started to run away with it. They had got the ball after a Cardinal three-and-out, and took it a total distance of 44 yards, that is a 132 feet for you geeks out there, for the touchdown. That being capped off with a 12 yard touchdown pass from Favre to Tyrone Davis. That put them on top 28-17. It didn't take too much longer before they had the ball again at their own 41 yard line. 2 plays is all it took, the second play being a 59 yard touchdown pass from the ultimate cheesehead, Brett Favre, to Donald Driver for the touchdown. 35-17 after that 7 pointer. Arizona finally started to move down field, and you know its too late. Boldin caught a 3rd touchdown pass from Jeff Blake, this time from 7 yards out. They went for 2, a reverse to Bryant Johnson, and got it with an effort dive to get in. They went for an onside kick, went off a Green Bay lineman, and Adrian Wilson recovered. Green Bay did not have their hands team out there for some reason, and it cost them. No worries though, as Arizona turned it over on 4th down. Ryan Longwell kicked a 31 yard field goal to add onto the score. The final score was Green Bay 38- Arizona 25.

Marshall Faulk is once again the center of attention in the Ram offense. He is 6th in the NFL in rushing yards, but has also caught 17 passes, 3rd on the team. He is the complete package. Though the Rams can still beat the Cardinals without him playing well, it will still be interesting to see if he does.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/14- Kurt Warner
We all know who he is. From the Chunky Soup commercials, to the quarterback controversy, we have heard his name. Well, the quarterbck controversy is going strong now. With the Rams on a 2 game losing skid, and with him throwing more interceptions than touchdowns, (4 touchdowns, 6 interceptions) critics have said to let Bulger go back and run the show. Kurt Warner wants to go out, and silence his critics with a nice showing against the Cardinals.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/14- Aeneas Williams
Williams and the rest of the secondary has not have the best three weeks in the world. They are 28th in the league in passing yards, and has yet to intercept a pass. Aeneas Williams will be on rookie sensation Anquan Boldin this week, let's see if he can use his age and knowledge on the rookie to grab some picks.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Pete Kendall
The starting left guard has been gone since preseason, and is questionable for the game. Coach McGinnis says he will most likely go, so we want to see if he is back in form. If not, they might sub Dishman back in, and rest up Kendall for next week.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Marcel Shipp
According to Dave McGinnnis, Emmit Smith will not play Sunday against the Rams. He says that he wants to rest him up a week. He has declined since the first week against the Lions. He has yet to get a touchdown since the two touchdown performance against the Lions. Marcel has more speed, and that means that 1 year pro Damien Anderson will be getting some time on 3rd down. more speed here now, let's see if they take advantige of it.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Bill Gramatica
The Cardinals are going to need every point they can get Sunday against the Rams. He has choked a few times this year. Crucial times they needed
points, he failed to come through. 4-7, with his longest this year being only 37 yards. If he keeps kicking like Charlie Brown, this team might look for another kicker.

Yeah...I started a Cardinals franchise recently...It's quite fun...
I picked up Randall Godfrey out of free agency, and switched to a 3-4 defense.
Strange that Gramatica isn't doing well for you. For me, after 3 games, he is 6-6. Five of those are from the Green Bay game.

Well, I'm unbanned. Thank the lord!! But, I can't play since my brother meant to take a Medal of Honor, but the Medal of Honor case had Madden in it for some reason. He won't be back until later tonight. So I'll probably have a report tomorrow maybe.

Cardinal Times
Cardinals and Rams come down to the final minutes...
Hello, thanks again for reading the Cardinal Times, your number one source of Cardinal news from trade rumors, to depth chart lineups, we are there to give you the news. Arizona took a trip to the midwest, St. Louis, Missouri. Home of the Major League Baseball Cardinals, National Hockey League St. Louis Blues, Nelly, and the "Greatest Show on Turf," St. Louis Rams. Let's get started.
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image118.jpg
A Shot of Edward Jones Dome before kickoff
Arizona came in confident to win this game. They would need all the confidence for this game. The Cardinals' captains ran out onto the field. Arizona won the toss, and elected to kick the ball. The game was about to begin!
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Arizona%20131.jpg
Kurt Warner warming up before the game
Arizona's Kevin Kasper took the kick from the one yard line, and returned it to the 22 yard line. The game had begun. Arizona punt after not converting on third down on their first drive. St. Louis would take over from their own 17 yard line. They would pass the lights off of Arizona. That starting out with Kurt Warner hitting Kevin Curtins for an 11 yard gain. Then, hitting J.R. Niklos for a 11 yard gain. Then got a long pass to Niklos for a 32 yard gain. They would get all the way down to the 4 yard line, when Warner threw a touchdown pass to Isaac Bruce to put them on top 7-0. Gramatica would add a field goal before the first quarter was over to make the score St. Louis 7- Arizona 3.
http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/133.jpg
Bruce making the catch in the endzone
Nothing much would happen in the second quarter. Grant Wistrom went out for a knee burstis, but came back in the game after a few plays. With about 23 seconds left in the half, St. Louis was trying to run down the clock into halftime, but Arizona would not let them. They called two timeouts, and on third down, Faulk was stopped short of the 1st down line, and Orlando Pace was called for holding. Even though, Arizona declined the penalty, it stopped the clock with 20 seconds on the clock, and Arizona had one timeout to work with since they did not have to use it because of the penalty. A bad play, because Arizona punt returner Larry Foster caught the ball, and returned it all the way to St. Louis' 15 yard line. Two plays later, third and 10, Jeff Blake hit Anquan Boldin coming across the field, he dove up, stuck the ball up, and... touchdown Arizona! That would put Arizona up 10-7. On the kickoff, St. Louis retruner Terrence Wilkins took the kick, made a couple shakes, and ran it all the way back! But, wait a minute, there was a flag on the play, holding on St. Louis tight end Cameron Cleeland. Touchdown was waived off, halftime with the score, Arizona 10- St. Louis 7.

Boldin diving and reaching for the TD to put his team up
The third quarter had Arizona receiving the ball. Arizona would go three-and-out, and after a few minutes, Arizona finally caught a break on the St. Louis defense. Jeff Blake dropped back, pump faked, and threw it up for Anquan Boldin, who jumped up over St. Louis cornerback Aeneas Williams, and snagged it and brought it down to the 22 yard line. St. Louis held up, and Arizona settled for a 26 yard field goal by Bill Gramatica. St. Louis quarterback Kurt Warner went down in the game with a sprained elbow and would be gone for 1 week. Marc Bulger stepped in, and with 0:02 left in the quarter, he threw a 80 yard TD pass to Torry Holt to have the score St. Louis 14- Arizona 13.

Holt high stepping his way into the endzone to put his team on top
The fourth quarter had Arizona playing from behind. After many failed attempts to score, Arizona finally got them selves in good field posistion. Gramatica kicked his third field goal of the day, this one from 22 yards to put his team on top 16-14. St. Louis got the ball with 1:25 left on the clock, and Bulger went to work. McDonald caught a 4th down pass to keep his team alive. Faulk caught another pass. They drove all the way down to the Arizona 7 yard line, and Marshall Faulk broke two tackles, and dove into the endzone to put his team on top. They went for two, and did not get it. Arizona took the ball over with 0:42 left, with two timeouts left. They converted one first down, and Jeff Blake threw a pass to Bolding with single coverage down the field, DROPPED! Third down, a pass to Marcel Shipp, who would have a wide open path to the first down, DROPPED! 4th and 10, Jeff Blake drops back, Kasper is wide open, with a clear pass to the first down, OVERTHROWN! Turnover on downs. St. Louis downed the ball three times, and the game was over with the final score St. Louis 20- Arizona 16.

http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/6- Roy Williams
This 2nd year pro was a sensation last year, as he became the first rookie to start at safety since Ron Francis in 1987. He was a force to be reckon with in his first year, and his second year, he hads donw the same. He has one sack this year, and 17 tackles, not as much as last year. He will be a key force on the Cowboy defense, which has not played up to par, even with Bill Parcells as coach. We shall see how he plays Sunday.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/6- Chad Hutchinson
Parcells decided to start with Hutchinson over Quincy Carter, who was favored to get the starting job. He has not played well this year, throwing for only one TD pass, with three interceptions, and only 365 yards. We will see if Hutchinson gets it together, or Carter might see some time under center.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/6- Bradie James
The rookie out of LSU, has been starting at middle linebacker with Day Nguyen out for the majority of the year. He is tall, and quick, with two interceptions this year at linebacker. It is a pressure filled posisition to play, in just your first year, and you are going to mistakes. Let's see if Arizona can cause James to make mistakes.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Emmit Smith
You knew we had to do it, and you knew we were going to do it. Yes, Emmit Smith is under our microscope again, as his first game against his old team. He will return to Texas Stadium, but, he will be wearing Arizona colors, instead of Dallas colors. It might be emotional for him. Let's see if he can overcome those emotions, and carry this Arizona team to victory.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- James Hodgins
The starting fullback doesn't get too much of the spotlight, be he is becoming more and more apart of this offense. Though he has only ran the ball eight times for 15 yards, he has caught some crucial third down catches for this team. Dallas has a lot of speed, and Arizona might want to pound the ball up the middle more this week, to make it less effective.
http://www.foxsports.com/widgets/FS/NFL/SiteElement/Image/Jellies/22- Adrian Wilson
Once again, Adrian Wilson is under our microscope. He is the leader of this defense, which has played up to par. He and Dexter Jackson are tied at number one of number of tackles with 20. McGinnis has said to us that he might be using Wilson more on blitzing than ever before, making the offensive line, and the quarterback, always on their heels. Let's hope, Wilson makes a big impact, which he usually does.
How to beat the Dallas Cowboys
Hammer it down the middle
Dallas is a very, very fast defense. They move east to west, and west to east in no time flat. Make that speed useless by pounding the ball up the middle. If that is effective, the playaction will always be there for a big play.
Don't get burned deep
This a simple one, but don't let the Cowboys receivers get behind you. In fact, don't leave them in one on one coverage either. They are very, very fast. They all can jump for posistion, so play some Cover 4, just to be safe. You can have the linebackers cover the flats for this game.
Stay Focused
Just stay focused, and you should win this one. Make sure you keep Emmit Smith in the game. He might get emotional, but you want him to remember that there is a football game going on, and you want him to go out, and do his job for them to win.

Emmitt Smith's Emotional Return
Hello, thanks again for reading the Cardinal Times, your number one source of Cardinal news from trade rumors, to depth chart lineups, we are there to give you the news. Arizona went to Dallas, Texas, to play the Dallas Cowboys. Let's get into it!
http://invis.free.anonymizer.com/http://www28.brinkster.com/dongervine/Image290.jpg
A shot of Texas Stadium® with the roof open
It was return week. Steve Mariucci returned to San Francisco to face his old team, Mike Holmgren returned to face his old Packers, Tony Dungy will return to face his old team on Monday Night Football, and Emmitt Smith, coming back to Texas Stadium® to face his old team, the Dallas Cowboys. It was an emotional return, and most of the fans welcomed him with open arms. It was time though, to play some football! Arizona won the toss, and elected to kick the ball off. The game was about to begin!
