One of the most effective weapons in the spread offense(Florida State Playbook). First to debunk the myths I need to to distribute some information. If you have a slow qb he can still be effective using this play. If you have slow slot receivers, they can be effective. What makes this play work is the same as an I formation option....the dive play. We will start first with the Shotgun spread flex choose wr option. This play starts with auto motion by the slot wr. Once the reciever gets to the qb the play starts. (you start the motion when you press a) while the wr is in motion you get a look at the coaches view of the front you are facing. Generally it will be an 6 to 8 man front. If it is an 8 man front you want to know where the heat is coming from. If your pre-snap read says you will get de or lb pressure the dive is your best option unless your qb can out run the pursuit angle. DONT just flip it out to the rb without knowing where he is. If you have to use the dive off the option it is ok you are setting the d up for the big play. The next thing you want to use with this spread flex formation is the jet sweep. This also is a good setup play. Again the slot wr comes in auto motion and you hand the ball off and he goes on the sweep with the rb lead blocking it is good to have a good blocking rb on this play as it will help him get to the outside. :D Now for my favorite play call the option pass. In this play I don't have to pass the ball can can run the option based on pre-snap read. If the d is playing man to man or zone the pass could be a chance for a big play. If the d has a spy the middle of the line will be open and you can just follow the rb in the whole after the fake hand off. If you choose to do that check the outside wr if the are look in on blocks bounce it outside for a big gain. If you get lucky and the d blitzed cb's or olb's you get a free big gain. But If you continue outside with the option and the de makes you pitch be aware of where playside corner is if you don't see him he is on his way or is blocked and either way now would be a good time to pitch to the slot wr and have him cut upfield for a big gain or positive yards. Please be careful with the speed button wait til you get the lane then turn on the gas. Jaws always says that big plays are made in the passing game well this option pass has one built in. If pre-snap read says man to man/blitz or zero coverage the option pass should be what you are thinking. At snap you will get the auto motion notice where the ss and fs are. Do they back up or come foward if the come foward look for the fly (outside wr) or deep out. They will be wide open most of the time. Complete the pass and get your motivational boost. A side note if you take too much time on the play clock auto motion will not move and it will be a qb sweep and the line will block like that is the play call and should catch the d off guard for a nice gain. [cool] In my second year dynasty with FSU D. Weatherford has 200yrds rushing and 2900 passing with 41 total tds. Not bad for a kid with very low running skills. However Richard Goodman and Preston Parker have 400 rushing yards a piece and Parker has 400 receiving yards and Greg Carr has 18 receiving tds. Great season too bad it took me 14 games to master the option with a slow, pocket passer.

I usually just take my QB to the end/tackle and read the OLB. If he's going outside, I take it through the gap, if he's going inside, I go outside and pitch it off if I have to.

That is good two but if you are facing a dime or a 3-2-5 the rb serves as a blocker if you follow him up the hole. If there is zero coverage and an outside blitz with a qb spy you will pick up chunks of yardage. My qb is game av. is 97-105 yards per game rushing with my backs/wrs adding in 180yrds plus 280-305yrds passing. I may do a article on it. I am testing some option passing theories out.
