Oh....I just noticed that you have to actually "apply" to join a company. I'm driving from Dallas to Monterrey, Mexico with 15 tons of paper....I drove 514 of the total 645 miles and now I have 10 fatigue points (exhausted)....so I set an alarm on my phone for a 4 hour break....:D
Only $300 for this route though....:(

What kind of benefits do you get for joining a company?
From what I've noticed....you get percentage discounts on gas, repair, etc....but they take a percentage of what you make....plus you get a pay check....but I'm not sure how that works yet.
Each hour of you don't "Leg"....your fatigue point drops 1....what I have been doing today is stopping once I get to 10 (not taking any chances)....now I'm halfway on my 2nd route (Dallas to Monterey to El Paso)

Took 40,000lbs of paper from NYC to Charlotte, NC, last night. Now I'm in the process of taking 40,000lbs of gasolina from Charlotte to Miami, Fl. I'm about 350miles away from Miami, but I am exhausted.
Will be making $411 if I make it to Miami by tomorrow morning at 5am. Should be no problem.

I drove my first load to Corpus Christi yesterday and got a ticket for driving past HOS (fatigue level 13) that cost me $175. I am now hauling a load of paper to Monterrey and I'm 288 miles out but I am sleepy so I am going to rest for a while. Can someone explain the whole "next leg" feature?
Each trip is divided up into legs which represent one hour of driving. You click "next leg" to drive for an hour which also gives you 1 fatigue point. You regain 1 fatigue point for every real life hour your driver is inactive.
Have any of you actually looked at what is involved in starting and operating a company? It looks pretty complicated.

Make sure you check out this page:
http://www.trukz.com/stats.asp
Look at the city information. For example, I was in Monterrey, which as general merchandise, glass, and cardboard. If you look at cargo information, it tells you what cities need glass or cardboard, and how much money you get paid per mile. So instead of lugging general merchandise for $0.45 to some random city, I'm haul cardboard for $0.55 to a city that needs it and has nuclear waste, which I get paid $1.05 to haul.

I am taking my longest trip....El Paso to California....I got tired of driving from Monterrey to El Paso back and forth and decided to take a longer route (838 compared to 600 something)....my company has 3 terminals (Monterrey, Detroit, and Jacksonville FL).
It will be nice to be able to go out west instead of staying in the Tex-Mex region. I'm slowly tryna make my way to the main terminal for my company (Jacksonville, FL).
They gave me 22 hours to make it from El Paso to Los Angeles and after finishing a route earlier this morning....my fatigue was down to 3....so I took that $100 quick rest thing and now I've knocked it down to 385 miles from 838. After gassing up and cheap repairing my truck....I'm up to 12 fatigue points (I drive to 10 only to be safe).
I can use the browser on my cell to advance through my route, cheap repair my truck and gas up....but I can't choose new routes....so it really helps.
I have until 6pm tommorrow to get to Los Angeles....but I'll probably knock out the 385 quickly late tommorrow morning as I'll be fully rested....:D

I just finished up my route from Dallas to New Orleans and made a few hundred dollars.

Total Paycheck - $2965.58
Fuel-800 gallons @ $2.50/gal -$2000

The company makes money by completing contracts. That money is used to pay for salaries for the company officers (the company I work for pays its officers nothing), new terminals, and the benefits (fuel, repair, and ticket assistance) it provides drivers. You also get bonuses for completing contract loads. The main reason I joined a company is to get the assistance but its also fun to be a part of a team trying to complete a contract before a deadline passes.
There is also a stock system but I don't really understand how it works yet.

As far as I can tell you can only take out a loan for 1000. I tried selling my truck, because that would put me over 7k. I figured I could just be a ceo type and not drive but that didn't work.
If you have any money you should deposit it all into the bank. At 12am you wil gain 1% interest. It is not much but every little bit will help. After you gain your interest you can take it out of the bank.

If your truck is anything like mine, you'll have to repair it at least several times, and you'd probably only profit a few hundred dollars. Doesn't seem like that long of a trip is worth it until you have a good truck.

I've got my eye on the 1989 Volvo Truck. It's got a top speed of 60 mph with a bit more fuel effiency that what I've got now. It costs 6k and I should be able to afford it in about a week.

I've got about 3k in cash. My truck is valued at about 3800. So I'm just going to take 1000 in loans for the next 3-4 days until I've got enough to land that one that is about 9800. It's the best "value" buy according to my company. It will make my route a leg or 2 shorter(=more money) less each way. So that's good enough for me.

The '93 Kenworth or the '96 International? They both cost about 9800. The International has about 500k fewer miles and is the same as the Kenworth in every other aspect.
Do you realize that your first loan is at 2% interest, the second loan at 3%, with the interest increasing by a percentage point for every loan.

The 96.
This is the plan suggested to us by the higher ups in Siberian. It's the #5 ranked company so I am going to trust their opinions on this.
2% of 1000 is only $20. With the upgrade at truck I will make that and some. I can pay a loan off within a week or 2.
I've made about $1000 in the few days I've been doing this. So I think I'll be ok with this move.
Just traded in my 89 Kenworth for a sweet 89 Volvo. The only advantage is the speed and the condition is a little better.

deathscythe

You can't buy stocks until you've been in the game for 14 days.
Any driver that is at least 14 days old in the game and has logged at least 10,000 miles can purchase company stocks. Stocks allow you to play the market and invest your money into the various companies in the game. The current stock value calculation is:
(Money ÷ 100) + (Terminals x 25) + (Active Members ÷ 10)
If you buy or sell stocks from a company for any amount you may not buy or sell stocks again from that company until the next day.
It looks like a good idea once you log enough time to buy some stock in a company.

You can run anything. In fact until they get a contract, there's not much to do other than make money for them by making runs. You do get some bonuses I think if you deliver the right kinds of goods to the hub but other than that you just get some incentives and give them a cut.
One strategy I'm going to try to work on is making runs for the red starred "hot" items of the week. These are listed in the stats section for cargos. Supposedly that's a sound strategy to go with when starting off.

I don't think that matters. About 4500 bucks, if I want to get the '96 International. Only about 1200 bucks, if I go for the '89 Volvo.
On Sunday, after I get back from T-giving holiday, I'm going to become the route manager for the company I'm belong to...K & D Transport.

Not very close at all. I have like $1000 in the bank right now. I had to spend over $300 on gas on my last trip. I'm on my way to Montgomery from New Orleans right now, and then I'm gonna do the run from Montgomery to Jacksonville and back a bunch of times. I've come all the way from Los Angeles, with stops in Phoenix and El Paso and hardly made any money. Seems like there will be a lot more money to be made on the east coast.

I've got $3,932.84 (took out 3 $1,000 loans) and my truck is worth $3,656.32. My current haul will take that up to 8300. Hopefully in a few days I'll get that '96 International.

Just found out from the S&M folks that the price rate on the contract begins when you pickup the gas and not at delivery.
Which means as long as I pickup the gas and deliver it before the deadline I still get the contract money, even if the other people have already fulfilled the contract.
So those in S&M near Houston should just give it a go with the gas, you'll still get the money if you complete the deadline no matter if the contract is fulfilled or not.
Good news, I just hope my truck don't crash into a tree and blow up with all that gas. :D

Theoretically, Southpaw can get credit for posting the link here.
After he removes it you could likewise put your link into this thread and get credit for it. The STA has a thread where everyone there will post the link in the same thread. They then just remove the post where it was linked and move right along.

Before beginning on my most recent haul I had $400 on hand for expenses. I used some of that to repair my truck before I set-out. So far I have traveled 600 miles (not quite halfway there) and I have already had two mechanical breakdowns in addition to having to refill 194 gallons of fuel. I have spent $461.91 on this trip already on this trip.
I am only going to make $944.44 for this haul. I know I'll have to spend at least another $200 on fuel (but likely much more). At this rate I'm going to have a difficult time not losing money as a result of this haul. :(

I still haven't joined a company. I don't quite understand the benefits of it I guess. Just made it from Las Vegas to Dallas. Next I think I'm going from Dallas to New Orleans as I try to work my way eastward. It seems like the east coast is the best place to be, just because there are so many more cities over there that the hauls are more manageable at least early on. Over on the west coast, you have some pretty long hauls between cities.

Depending on which company you join, you get benefits such as the company paying a certain percentage of gas and repairs. Some companies have private stocks that you can buy if you work for them.

So far I've done routes from Detroit so St. Louis, then St. Louis to Dallas, from Dallas to New Orleans, and now working from N.O. to El Paso, just because I wanted to see if there was anything extra in El Paso that benefits money wise?

You can look at a list of companies to see what they offer and pick one that looks good. You can pick one of the ones the rest of us joined or just remain independent. I got like 4 PM's when I joined from companies and picked one of them because the kickback was low 3% and the incentives were decent given the low kickback.

Every company in the game will have one or more company terminals. Company terminals are located in cities of the company CEO's choice and represent primary operation centers for your company. Company terminals provide a 10% bonus for goods delivered to a city with a company terminal. Company terminals appear on the map as blue markers where as non-company terminal city locations appear as red markers on the map. Each company can have up to 20 terminals. Each company is allowed to select one headquarter terminal.
Headquarters provide 25% reduction in the cost of fuel and repairs for drivers who are currently in the headquarter city and NOT currently in-route. In addition to the reduced fuel and repair fees, there is no fatigue point penalty for refueling or repairing your truck while at a company terminal.
The first company terminal costs $5,000. After that the formula for terminals is based on the following equation:

Terminals aka hub cities. If you belong to a company I think you can refuel for free. I am on my way to a hub now.
