how do you stop an athletic qb like wvu or florida. i played this guy and all he did was run out of the pocket and throw deep down field or scramble for 10 yards. i tried putting olb spy on him but it did not work as he would just throw down field.

DE / Linebacker / Free safety spy's.
DE contains with a linebacker spying, or manually hotroute the linebacker to cover the flats.
man coverage in the 4-4 and 5-2 work very, very well. If you know they're going outside tell the linemen to rush out (in the 5-2). In the 4-4 spread the linebackers.
another major thing you can do is play safety or linebacker & simply run to the outside... if you're 100% sure they're not going up the middle you can pull your lineman that direction, often times that'll run another linemen into a B gap and early hit the qb forcing the lag pitch / fumble pitch. then it's simply cleanup
wvu vt uf arkansaw... once you can defend the pissy qb option and leave them for a 3-10 yard loss on every play. you're really just waiting around to kill the option passes and trick plays in man coverage... if anything look forward to playing against them. most of the time their star qb's don't make it to halftime in playing condition. if they do they'll be red from the hitting.
just don't get upset... everyone breaks a play now and then, but solong as you don't let them get trick play, and up the middle running happy you'll crush them. no reason what so ever for any of those teams to ever do anything more than turn the ball over & kick field goals.

i have had positive results using the 1-5-5 defense against a mobile QB. There is a QB contain play in there that works great. Also in the quarters defense I formation sub to have my DEs switched to LBs. I pick the contain/spy play and audible to "show blitz"....it brings a lot of speed to the line of scrimmage...only downside is if he runs it up the gut...not a lot of size there

i use to like the 1-5-5 alot to get speed on the field, but i just don't think it works well enough with the majority of the teams against good players.
it dives too deep into your crappy linebacker pool, you wind up with very slow replacements that can't hit & have low awerness (exactly what you NEED to have on the field!!!) and god forbid it starts putting in backup db's, or de's in the game b/c your team is that short on low level lb's. you'll get run over. there's so many other ways to stop the junk i just assume have all your better players on the field.
