I'm not a huge fan of the way they have this, just because I think they use it as a substitute for DE contain logic on regular plays, but one thing that they could do to really improve it is to make it easier to hot route to.

On last-gen, they had a very easy way to hot route the DEs to spy. You hit line audible (LB), and then you hit Square (X) to hot route the left DE to spy and Circle (B) to hot route the right DE to spy.

If they would simply implement this, but replace the spy assignment with the QB contain assignment, it would make life a lot easier in online play. The way the hot route works now, it's very difficult to get both DE's assigned to contain, especially if you have any other adjustments that you want/need to make. And really when you think about it, there is no real reason that you'd want to hot route anybody to a spy over a contain, at least on the perimeter. Contain is basically a more intelligent version of spy, because the guy will actually rush the passer when he breaks the pocket, rather than just standing there and giving him all kinds of time to pass. The only time that you'd really want to use a spy is if the player is in the interior of the formation (MLB), and he's trying to track the QB to either side, rather than preventing him from getting outside in one particular direction.
