Have you started the season?

I assume you are playing on AA?

If you havent started the first season Im pretty sure you could decrease all of Mo Clarett's stats if you so desired. If not he typically wins the Heisman 2 years in a row and carries Ohio St. to 2 national titles.

Kincade Named Pre-Season All-WAC
Running Back Honored By Athlon

Wednesday, June 18, 2003

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU football standout Keylon Kincade has been named a pre-season All-Western Athletic Conference performer by Athlon Sports, the publication announced today.

Kincade, a senior from Troup, Texas, had a breakout season in 2002, setting a school record with 327 rushing attempts and totaling 1,279 yards on the ground, the third most in school history. He scored seven touchdowns and ran for more than 100 yards in eight games on his way to second team All-Western Athletic Conference honors.

“Keylon did a great job for us last year,” said SMU Coach Mike Gillett. “We gave the ball to him and he kept running hard. He would get stronger the more we gave it to him. We needed him to be a workhorse and he came through. He was outstanding.”

SMU opens the season on August 30, when the Mustangs travel to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech.

Head Coach Mike Gillett and players Allan Adami, Richard Bartel, Brian Bischoff, Chris Cunningham, D.D. The SMU Mustangs held its final pre-season scrimmage Saturday night at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The Ponies went through a controlled scrimmage that lasted an hour and a half. The scrimmage was SMU's final scrimmage preparation before the Aug. 30 season opener against Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.

Quarterback Richard Bartel completed three of four passes Saturday night for 32 yards, connecting with three different receivers in limited action. Running back Keylon Kincade rushed five times for 29 yards on the evening. The Mustangs' longest offensive play of the night was a 37 yard pass from quarterback Ashton Nixion to wideout James Elliott.

Really? I couldnt force the Heisman to him, and I averaged 2200 yards and 27 touchdows/year in two years before he left. He always drops off my Heisman watch after OSU's bye week and never gets back on, even when I'm playing as other teams.

Im my season 2 it took him 4 weeks drop off the top of the charts after he was injured. He came back like 7 weeks later, scored 6TDs in 1 game and went right back to the top. It was lame.

He won it the season before.

Thank goodness he went to the NFL after the second season.

Coach Gillett on the team:

Quarterback
We're a young team at QB and we'll start the season off with Rich Bartel, as the season progresses we will make a change if needed. I'm not all that comfortable having three young QB's but we'll go with what we've got and run plays that will fit what they do best.

Runningbacks:
Heres a pharse you'll be hearing all year, "run the ball." Kinkade is quite a talent and we are going to ride him as far as we can, both him and Shar'mond are capable of carrying this team now we just need them to go out there and do it. Don't be surprized to see us run it 50+ times a game with the stable of RB's we've got here.

Wide Reciever
We really need to step it up here if we are going to be successful, we've got some good young talent but most of then just aren't ready to play yet. We are going to rely on Cunningham, Griffin, Taylor, and Medlock to teach our younger kids the ropes. I did see some good things out fo Francis in spring ball but as a whole we are alittle too slow for what I like to do. We'll get through this year with what we've got and go from there.

Tight Ends:
We are going to lean on these two guys hard in the passing game and hopefully they will come up with some big plays. With the youth at QB we are primaraly going to be a short to medium range passing team, that means we will need to get the tight ends involved, I think they will be ready for the challenge and excell in the new West Coast Offense I brought here to SMU.

Offensive Line:
This team will go as the O-line goes. I need to see these guys in the game as well as practice hitting people. I want to see these gaurds pull around the edge and hit LB's and DB's like they are Mack Truckin' a tomato can. We need to be able to run the ball and control the clock in order to win. It falls squarely on these big guys and I think they will get the job done.

Defensive Line:
We're a little smallish here so we are going to need to rely on our speed, we're not going to be able to throw our weight around to stop the run, so I will need these guys flying around like mad dogs and creating havoc for the other team. I'm a little worried about this group other than Adami. On offense we are going to try and keep these guys of the feild so they can keep that energy up.

Linebackers:
We've got a pretty solid group of veterans here, and they are going to need to show it this year. This isn't a great group, but it is good, smart and tough. I think we will be alright here barring injury.

Defensive Backs:
We're not particularly fast here, so we are going to try to do some things to cover that up. We've got a good core of players that have been here for awhile and they've picked up the new system pretty well, hopefully this group will bring us a few turnovers this year. I know this they will play smart back here.

Its more buildup than I do, but thats because I like to let my games speak for my stars, and I dont give a rats ass about national stuff, but thats me, Im more into building a story of my team rather than the football in general.

Your way is good as well and I can dig it, so keep it up is the main thing.

Next Game: #111 SMU at #45 Texas Tech 8/30/2003, 6PM

About Texas Tech:
The Texas Tech Red Raiders are coming off a 9-5 season in 2002 which was capped by an impressive 55-15 win over Clemson in the Tangerine Bowl and a 42-38 win over rival Texas. Tech has lost the services of All-American quarterback Kliff Kingsbury, but has been tough to handle at Jones SBC, going 5-1 at home in 2002.

The Series:
Saturday's game marks the 43rd meeting of the two schools, with Tech holding a 26-16 advantage. The Red Raiders have won eight straight over SMU including a hard-fought 24-14 victory last season in Dallas. SMU's last win over Tech came in the 1986 season, when the Ponies scored a 13-7 win in Lubbock. It has been a battle of streaks, however, with Tech winning eight straight from 1989 to the present, and SMU winning six straight from 1981 to 1986.

Key Players:
B.J. Symons, QB (TT)

Keylon Kinkade, HB (SMU)

Keys to the Game:
Offense - Keep the explosive Texas Tech offense on the sideline by controlling the clock with short passing and running the ball. NO TURNOVERS!!!

Defense - Fly around and cause turnovers, we're not going to stop Texas Tech but we need to slow them down and capitalize on every opportunity given to us.

Wow good read there man, I like that buildup .. are you going to do that with every game? Where did you get all your info? That was really nicely done, all professional sounding and stuff, sportsy instead of dramatic like mine .. I can really dig this, and of course it will be better if you are playing on challenging settings for yourself so that teams pummel you into the ground that should do so.

Yeah I am going to do that for every game, as long as it doesn't become to burdonsome. I'm playing All-American with the settings above from all the testing I have done with those sliders they produced realistic numbers with my playing style.

Game Wrap-up:

Coaches Corner:
It was a good win but we've still got a long way to go before we can call ourselves are good team. I consider us lucky to walk out of there with a win, B.J. Symons seemed a little off, on his first pass he threw a pick. Our defense gave up an average of 4.6 yards a rush, I'd like to see that at or below 3.5. Also we gave up an average of 13.5 yards per completion, that stinks. Our offense was only able to convert on 30% of our 3rd downs, thats going to come back and bite us down the road. We put the ball on the ground 3 times and we're luck to recover all three, we cannot do that, not our team. We aren't good enough to make mistakes.

We were able to obtain our goals, we kept the ball away from Texas Tech and we out rushed them; two key stats in getting a win. I was impressed with Bartel in this game, he still needs to get into practice and keep working at it but I'm starting to see improvement with his disicion making - he got out of this one without a turnover, and generally managed the game very effectively. He did make a few bad passes but we'll work on that and that should go away soon.

Keylon Kinkade...what can I say he kept getting stronger as the game went on, we kept pounding on Texas Tech and come the 4th quarter they were worn out and we were able to move the ball a little easier.

I liked the effort we put forth today and came out of there with a win, we've still got a lot of improving to do and hopefully as the year goes along we will be able to do that.

Game Balls:
The Defense - they weren't able to shut them down but they slowed them down enough to keep us in the game until the 4th quarter.

O-Line - This was a fun game for them we kept lining up and pounding it at them, you could see Texas Tech become worn out in the 4th and we were able to take advantage of it.

Have you started the season?

I assume you are playing on AA?

If you havent started the first season Im pretty sure you could decrease all of Mo Clarett's stats if you so desired. If not he typically wins the Heisman 2 years in a row and carries Ohio St. to 2 national titles.
Strange. That has never happened to me.

Next Game: #67 SMU at #106 Baylor - 9/13/2003, 12:30 PM

About Baylor:
Baylor sports a new coach in 2003, as Guy Morriss arrives in Waco from the University of Kentucky. Baylor is 0-2 in 2003 and went 3-9 in 2002, besting Samford, Tulsa & Kansas. Baylor has been in the Big 12 since its inception in 1996, compiling a 4-52 conference mark along the way.

The Series:
Saturday's game marks the 77th meeting of the two schools, with SMU holding a 36-33-7 advantage. The Mustangs hold an 18-16-3 series edge in Waco, but the Bears have won seven straight over SMU including the last match-up back in 1995. SMU's last win over Baylor came in the 1986 season, when the Ponies scored a 27 - 21 win in Waco.

Key Players:
John Garrett, MLB (Baylor)

Keylon Kinkade, HB (SMU)

Keys to the Game:
Offense - Once again we are going to ride our horse Keylon Kinkade, I think this team goes as far as Keylon and the offensive line allows it to.

Defense - We need to do better at stoping the run, we match up pretty well against Baylor's wideouts so we really need to focus on stopping the run.

Game Wrap-up:

Coaches Corner:
Well we came out of Waco with a win, always a good thing. We made a few mistakes: 3 fumbles of which one we lost and we threw an interception. We need to hang on to the ball if we are to win next week against Oklahoma State. I liked what we were able to do on the ground today, we controlled the clock and kept the defense off the field. Our offensive line was able to pound on them today, you could see them comming back to the sideline in the second half with smiles on thier faces...they seem to like it when we run the ball.

We still need to work on our 3rd down conversions, we did a little better this week but we still have quite a ways to go, also we need to be able to get the ball down the field more we were 11-19 which isn't too bad but we could only get 90 yard through the air...we missed on a few big plays in the passing game.

We still need to do some work on our pass defense; we allowed 289 yards today. We did make a few big plays, Jonas Rutledge made a pick on a deep ball late in the 1st half and Rolando Humphrey was able to come up with a huge pick to stop a drive and returned it for a touchdown, that was a 14 point play right there. We had some positives but we are giving up too many easy passes and we're not getting any pressure on the quarterback.

Overall I'm happy with the win but we still have a long ways to go.

Game Balls:

Injuries:
Chris Cunningham (shoulder) - Game - He'll be ready for next weeks game against Oklahoma St.

Next Game: #26 Oklahoma St. at #62 SMU

About Oklahoma St.:
Oklahoma State is comming off a win over Southwest Missouri State and stands at 3-0 on the year. The Cowboys won the Houston Bowl to close out the 2002 season with an 8-5 mark. Their high-powered attack is led by Heisman candidate Rashaun Woods, a senior wide receiver. OSU is coached by third-year head man Les Miles, who boasts a 14-13 career mark.

The Series:
Saturday's game marks the 11th meeting of the two schools, with SMU holding a 6-2-2 advantage. This game marks only the second matchup between the teams since 1950, with OSU winning 52-16 last year in Stillwater. SMU had won three straight prior to that meeting, grabbing victories in 1946, 1947 & 1950.

Key Players:
Rashaun Woods, WR (OSU)

Keylon Kinkade, HB (SMU)

Keys to the Game:
Offense - Be balanced...Richard Bartel needs to have a good game in order for us to stay in this game. Again we are going to try and ride Keylon Kinkade to a win. No mistakes, and no turnovers.

Defense - Where do you start, we need to slow Oklahoma State down and hold onto the ball so we can keep them on the sideline. We need to slow down the run and focus on stopping Rashaun Woods.

Mustangs Fall to Oklahoma State, 30-23

Saturday, September 20, 2003

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs dropped to 2-1 on the season on Saturday, Sept. 20, as they fell, 30-23, to the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

OSU's Rashaun Woods finished with 96 yards on 4 grabs. Woods, a 6-2 All-American, had one TD at the half, and all passes came via Cowboy quarterback Josh Fields, although he suffered a pulled groin that sidelined him for the remainder of the game.

"He's a load," said SMU coach Mike Gillett. "He made several of his catches in zone and double coverage. He's just a great receiver. If a ball is in his vicinity, he's going to catch it."

Despite the point disparity, the yardage battle was much closer as OSU outgained SMU 482-418.

"We played hard and we didn't quit. I was proud of our guys for that. It's my job to get this team better and I'm going to do that. I told our team we're 2-1 in the Big 12, but 0-0 in the WAC."

SMU returns to the field next week, as the Ponies travel to Reno to battle Nevada on Sept. 27.

Game Wrap-up:

Coaches Corner:
We fought hard to come back in this one and we were a two point conversion away from tying it up in the 4th. What cost us the game was our 3 fumbles, we gave them a short field on two of them and the other we were going in for a score, I told you this would happen if we continued to do this. I told our kids this and hopefully now they will understand; there is no reason to put the ball on the ground that many times, its a fundamental part of football to hold onto the ball and we just have not been able to do that.

I was pround of Bartel today, he's recieving the offensive game ball this week, he really grew up right out there in front of us today, he was a little less than perfect. We weren't able to consistantly run the ball although we did pop a big one in the 4th when Kinkade made a beauty of a run for the TD. He ran over one tackler and stiff-armed the DB for the TD, it doesn't get any better than that. We were able to control the clock with short passes to Hrncir, he was another one of the bright spots...although there was one or two he dropped for 1st downs.

On defense what can you say both of those kids Oklahoma State has are great. We were doubling Rashaun and rolling the zone over to him all game up until he got hurt and he was still averaging 20+ a catch, he's a great player. Once he went out we were able to go back to our base sets and his brother D'Jaun got a few key catches, look out for him he's going to be a good one also. Jonas came up with two big picks and Rico had one also to stop OSU in the red zone, these guys are giving it their all, we're hanging in there and I think we'll be alright for the WAC schedule. These Big 12 teams have some great wideouts.

SMU News:

Next Game: #66 SMU at #78 Nevada

About Nevada:
Nevada is comming off a convincing 28-3 WAC win at San Jose State and stand at 2-1 on the year. Its lone loss was a close 31-17 battle at Oregon. The Wolf Pack is led by quarter back Jeff Rowe who ranks first in the WAC in passing efficency.

The Series:
Saturday's game is only the fourth matchup between the two schools with Nevada holding a 2-1 series edge. SMU won the first meeting 21-7 in Dallas in 2000, but has dropped two strainght to the Pack, 35-14 in Reno in 2001 and 24-6 last year in Dallas.

Key Players:
Jeff Rowe, QB (Nevada)

Keylon Kinkade, HB (SMU)

Keys to the Game:
Offense - Back to the old game plan, run Keylon run. Once again we are going to saddle up on our horse and see how far he can take us. This should be a big game for Keylon.

Defense - We need to keep QB Jeff Rowe in check and not allow him to get comfortable. We need to start pressuring the QB and make him make bad disicions, create turnovers, and had the ball over to our offense.

Looking very good and highly detailed Hookem. Most people don't reply and even if they do, it's not often. Keep it up!!

Well I think I am going to start the Dynasty over and start a new thread and build a website. It's a little time consuming entering everything into here, so I am going to create some templates on a webpage to make it a little easier. Plus I got a little to far ahead. So far I am 5 - 4 overall and 3 - 2 in conference play. Its been fun playing with a lesser team, I like having to fight wo either stay ahead or claw back for a win. It was boring playing with Texas as it was a gauranted win.

Look for a new thread soon.
