Aw, you KNEW this was coming. Why wait for 2008 to be officially release? :D
I'll update this periodically.
Once again, please please please take more advantage of the screen real estate that you have, especially for the play call screen. We really, truly, honestly don't care about watching stadiums swirl in the background. We do, however, care about being able to see clearly and quickly choose from our playbooks. And some of us are getting older, and having a hard time reading smaller text. So show us some love.
Give VJ LeBlanc a raise. Maybe buy him a concubine to keep under his desk. Whatever, keep him happy and working on the product.
Back to the play selection stuff. Here's a thought on presentation. Have the current play page front and center, large and in charge. Then (and I am assuming mainly widescreen presentation here, screw the SD cavemen) to either side of the current play page, have the previous and next play pages visible, but smaller, just to allow the user to quick reference them to decide if they even want to go to the next/previous page to select a play from it. If the user moves the d-pad left or right, the previous/next page would then swing into place to become the current page, in large format with the ability to select a play from it. Think of it kind of like the taskbar thing on Macs.
And another thing on play selection (which you have heard before), make sure the play art reflects both the ball position on the field - hashmarks or middle - and also the first down marker. Make sure the routes are adjusted in the play art as they would be on the field, so we know where the players will really go.
Practice mode. Please, I beg you, make this worth something! What we have now is so rudimentary as to be essentially useless. We need to have random play/formation selection back. We also need to have the defense react in practice as they would in a real game (or real life practice for that matter). Allow us to establish down and distance scenarios. Say I want to try to hone my playbook so I know what to run on 3rd and medium outside of the redzone. Let me set that as a parameter for practice, and tell the defense to defend that down and distance EXACTLY like it would in a game, choosing plays/formations randomly, but which are appropriate for the situation. Make sure you retain the ability to set the defense to specific plays in case we want to lab against a particular play, because that does have its usefulness as well. And of course this would go for practicing defense as well. If I want to find the best way to defend second and long with my opponent backed up to his goal line, I should be able to do that. And the CPU practice offense should be able to respond with plays EXACTLY like it would in a game. With the vast improvements you have made in the game for 08, we really need to be able to familiarize ourselves with our chosen playbooks before we go into games.
Allow us to have custom playbooks with formations we choose. Make sure we can take these playbooks online. Right now we are confined to offensive packages not of our own design. It would be nice if we could decide on an offensive scheme and choose the formations we want to have to make it work. We're currently limited to searching the 120 or so books available, in vain, to find a playbook that kinda-sorta fits what we want to do. That's not fun. Give us fun.
More to come!
