So, where do I go with this? Simple, I plan to use this for some recaps of races and the seasons and use this as a holding template until I finish my Computer Programming degree to build my tracker of some sorts. Should be fun for me and hopefully a few diehard Auto Racing fans on here.

The plan is to start from the 1983 season and work my way up to the 2007 season. Maybe I'll be able to improve my writing along the way. :)

Thanks go out to the pits for making the mods, and the painters that painted the cars and to all that made the tracks that didn't come in the game. The link to find the carsets in order is here. (http://www.nr2k3tracks.com/cars.html)

I will be driving the #46 car for most of my career. Big props to all who painted a car for me, couldn't do it without yall.

I'll be running 40% of the full races and the computer strength at 96%.[Arcade Mode 1983-1984 Seasons]
I'll be running 50% of the full races and the computer strength at 92%.[Simulation Mode 1985 - 200x Seasons]

The painters websites I would like to thank for getting the cars from are:

The Cup 90 mod can be found here and the 1980s Rockingham track: http://designsbyrioux.net/

Also, big thanks to Papyrus and Sierra for all the years of racing enjoyment that was given to so many people. Shame that NR2003 was the last of it's series.

Oh, the cars of my childhood. I <3 nostalgia.

FYI: A programming degree may or may not help you with making something like Mandibal made. While I'm sure because of my degree I could pick it up (and I plan to help him this summer if I can), you may not specifically learn about web programming and languages like Ruby (which is what Mandi used).

That's good that you actually have some 'Net programming. We don't here, it's all C++ or Java, no Ruby, no J2EE, nothing net based. I like it, but then I don't. It was funny when I got offered a web-based programming position, I sat here like "You know I'm not qualified at all for this, right?"

Daytona (AP) -The biggest race of the season is finally here, the Daytona 500. It is time to finally get the season underway. There were a few rookies in this year's field, and one that stood out was the driver of the #46 Zaxby's car. Qualifying with an impressive sixth he had hoped that the strong start would yield a strong finish. Too bad for him as Darrell Waltrip had other plans.

The Pole Sitter, Darrell Waltrip found out that the #11 Pepsi Challenge car was not up to stuff as he was frustrated and rammed into the #46 car coming off turn four. The BIG ONE had occured. The poor Zaxby's car was the first to test how good the car could hold up upside down as Buddy Arrington slammed into the side of Mr T.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Daytona500Crash.jpg
This is not cool at all.

Somehow the driver of the #46 car managed to make it to pit road. The Zaxby's crew patched up the car as best as they could and set him out on his way. Three laps later the flag dropped and the engine of the #46 car gave up the ghost. He wound up finishing 40th.

With the big one out of the way, the rest of the race was fairly boring. Tim Richmond dominated the race until his pit crew messed up in the closing laps. The tire changers failed to get a lugnut off and those precious second lost wound up costing him the race. Ricky Rudd and Terry Labonte wound up fighting for the win.

It seems like it will after looking over what I have got to take to get my Degree from here. I have to have some work in internet programming stuff. Never really did realize how hard this code deal was gonna be till I started taking the classes. :o

If you wanted to start up a Auto racing tracker, I'm sure I could work with you to hammer out the ideas that would be the core of what the tracker would be all about.

The 1983 Richmond 400

Richmond, VA- Once again another not so thrilling race in terms of leader changes. The Zaxby's car over took the Pole Sitter Ricky Rudd coming off turn two and didn't look back for 83 laps.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Richmond400Lappingtraffic.jpg
Yeah I'm leading and lapping people woohoo!

Then around lap 84 Lake Speed cut down a tire and slapped the wall. All the leaders came in and the Rookie from Miami, Florida ran into trouble on pit lane. The pit crew managed to get the lugs jammed into the right side tires. This cost so much time that Mr. T was relegated to 19th position, while Bobby Allison came out of the pits first.

Around lap 127, Ricky Rudd discovered that Geoff Bodine was an idiot and promptly spun him out. This caused Bill Elliott to take the lead and Bobby Allison was stuck in traffic. Ole Mr. T was running back in about 15th trying to work his way around lap traffic when the crash occurred. I tried to go really low and miss the wreck altogether but #77 Ken Regan discovered it would be wise to hit the side of DW and spin around thus clipping me and causing me to spin. "I had minimal damage to the car, and was a little worried when the spotter said 'you got problems with the engine' but noticed my engine was fine and it was my right side messed up a little" said Mr. T.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Richmond400Lap127Crash.jpg
!@#$%!$#%@%^@!$#!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After pit stops were taken care of and we got racing again, it didn't take long for another caution to break out. On lap 141, trouble broke out again as Dave Marcus and Cale crashed and caused a huge pileup on the front stretch.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Richmond400Lap141Crash.jpg
YEAH I AVOIDED ONE! Go me! [cool]

Less than twenty laps to go and the lapped down cars think they are just as awesome as the leaders, this was annoying and once again a wreck broke out. Lucky for Mr. T it was on the other side of the track so he avoided it all together. On Lap 148, Dale Earnhardt's Camshaft went and it brought out another caution. At that point in the race, Mr T. had worked his way back up into the top 10. When the race went green it wasn't long before the vets tried to take advantage of a rookie. Four year driver Tim Richmond thought he could take out Mr. T in the turns on lap 155. "It was off the restart and my tires were cold as ice and Tim thought he could spin me out in I think turn four, but I recovered the car and managed to hold on to third place." said Mr. T

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Richmond400Lap155Save.jpg
Rubbin's Racin but he got the raw deal of it. [laugh]

Tim Richmond wasn't so lucky in the altercation as he hit the wall and collected a few cars. The Zaxby's car came through unscathed and managed to recover the car without touching the wall. This wreck set up for a final lap finish. Bill Elliott had led 40 laps and was determined to NOT lose the race. On the restart he bolted ahead and didn't look back as he won the race with by a comfortable 0.74 margin.

And Bill takes it home!

Pretty happy with the finish. Fought back from 19th place and managed to work my way back up through the pack. Hard to do, but had a pretty awesome setup heading into the race. I'll gladly take my second place finish after that horrible flip I had in Daytona.

That's interesting what did they say to you after you told them that?Hahaha, I didn't actually say that to them. Though I did turn down the job and that was part of my motivation.

By the way, if you want some different paint schemes as you progress through the seasons, I'd be willing to paint something up (assuming I have time with my upcoming move).

Will do, and check your PM box as I've got them sorted out by seasons. :D

I hope you have the Aero 88 mod.

This is ultracool, Mr. T. I love the Papyrus NASCAR sims. I especially like how you've gone all the way back to '83.

I've thought about doing something like this, but I like to drive more than 40% of the laps, and with no in-race saves, it would be a bear to do. And unfortunately, NR 2003 won't recognize my wheel, so I have do fall back to NR4, which doesn't have as good a selection of cars (anymore- I had a pretty good set, including a #16 Tennessee car, that I lost with a HDD reformat).

Bill Elliott in 83?? I thought he ran a limited schedule in 84, then unloaded in 85. What's up with that funky white paint job on the #9 Ford, anyway? [rock]

Mr T, I'll be following along on your career. Spin Tim Richmond out once for me, then when the Intimidator comes along, let's see some frammin' and jammin'. Do you have damage on, tire wear, etc.? Also, do you use a wheel and pedals?

Ah, the memories. I used to go to Bristol, turn damage off, start last, turn around, then take out the competition. It was my therapy. I had a black and red car number "0", The Wiz.

Yeah Elliot was in the 83 season he finished 3rd in the points. (Having the 40 years of stock car auto racing Vol 4 (1972-1989) comes in handy for checking.) That paint job looks about right, I didn't paint the cars as you can click on that link to check out the cars for NR 2003.

Apparently you didn't look at the Richmond Race recap as Tim tried spinning me out in his #27 Old Milwaukee Pontiac. ;)

Dale's in the #15 car the 1983 season.

I got it on simulation and damage and all that set to realistic. I don't have a wheel yet (if i got one now it prolly wouldn't be compatible with Vista) so I'm having to race via keyboard. Tire Wear is at 1x since I'm running 40% races.

Gotta love fanmail. :)

I was gonna go back to 1980 but on that link I posted the 1980 and 1982 carsets are not done. I think the interest in the game has somewhat cooled but it's still there. Hopefully I'll be able to go from the 1983-2007 seasons on here.

Pretty interesting concept I had, I looked on here to see if anyone had done something like this, and couldn't find anything. Evidently I'm blazing a new trail.

Yeah the no-game saves sucks, which is why I do practice and qualifying one day save and then like when the Race is on I'll run one.

Sucks about it not being able to recognize your wheel. Have you tried both inputs?

Oh no no, no hate for Tim Richmond, I really enjoyed watching him race. I was just suggesting a tit-for-tat. He spun you out, ergo, you return the favor. That's the way he raced. BTW, that was a fine save after the tap; you could easily have spun into the wall.

Ah that, I was wondering. I'll probably get him when he doesn't expect it. ;)

Man I tell you what, it was a miracle I didn't spin into the wall I did what I could and kept on going. Poor Tim, he wound up getting hit a few times in the side and cost him a top 5. [laugh]

Believe me, I tried everything to make NR '03 play nice with my wheel so I could use the latest version of the game, but no joy ([down]).

You dive with the keyboard??? Now those finishes really impress the living shit out of me cuz I can't do anything but wreck if I try to drive with the keyboard.

I'm skeptical about your being able to get a wheel that runs on DX10 drivers to work with NR '03, but if you can, you're going to love the difference driving with a force feedback wheel makes. Not only do you get to hug the bottom of the track, you get the "flavor"- the shimmy when you rub the wall, the staccato vibration after blowing a tire, etc.

Yeah, having to drive with the keyboard. I'm using the few aides that came with the game to help with keyboard driving. I've got it where I'm racing but it's like you're using the d-pad on the controller on a console system. I've used a wheel before, if this computer came with a joystick port I could use the wheel I had to run. It's still hard as you know what to drive though. I'm confident I'd have a win at Richmond had I had a wheel.

I need a joystick end deal port to USB converter. I don't know if they make those, but I really love the wheel I bought. When i go to tracks such as Martinsville. Watkins Glen, Riverside, North Wilkes it will be an even harder challenge.

The 1983 Warner W. Hodgdon Carolina 500

Rockingham, NC -- Fans thought they saw a mini Daytona 500 on the track today. The first lap saw a huge multi-car pileup that saw three drivers say 'adios' The field didn't get spread out as on lap six this major crash started. The crash came as a result Lennie Pond cut a tire.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83HogdonRock400Lap6crash.jpg
Yeah another wreck trying to get me caught up in it.

This race was full of cautions and the fourth of 16 happened after they went racing and Mr. T managed to get the lead by staying out and getting some bonus points, while the others came in for fuel and tires. Sure enough on lap 15 on the restart another crash broke out as two drivers came off turn two and hit the infield wall pretty hard.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Rock400Lap15LeadCrash.jpg
Leading once again. :)

But The #46 Zaxby's Chevy avoided that wreck as the strategy was to hang back in the field through out the race and hope you don't get caught up in the crashes that would occur.

It settled down for a bit, and then on lap 65 another wreck happened.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Rock400Lap65Crash.jpg
Oh boy, once again I almost got caught up in it.

Couple more cautions came out as drivers would go down the front stretch and slam each other in the infield wall. Around lap 167, another major crash occurred.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Rock400Lap167Crash.jpg
Yep I avoided that one as well. [cool]

Then the race finally went green until the final few laps. Desperate racers were in the back trying to improve their position as on lap 194 the #02 car was flipped.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Rock400Lap197Crash.jpg
Yeah that really does hurt.

This left a two lap shootout when the smoke cleared. It would be the #11, #47, #46 cars battling for the win. The green flag flew and Darrell burst out in front by a couple of car lengths. Ron was trying to hold off a hard charging Mr. T but on the final lap, Mr T managed to bump Ron out of the way on the final turn but the momentum that Darrell had built up was too much and DW walked away with the win.

You should do that when you start a new season. :)

It's easy, I've raced with a keyboard since the days of NR1, NR2, NR99, NRLegends, NR3. Fingers grow a little weary after running that long but I'm used to it. Brings me back to racing NR1 on my IBM Aptiva I had in 1994.

Yeah they are definitely more wheel friendly. That Rockingham race taxed my video card pretty good when the big crashes kept occurring. It was a miracle I kept the car from crashing. WHat was annoying was when they kept slowing down to 2 mph in the turns on the cautions so I'd have to serve to the left and miss them.

The 1983 Coca-Cola 500

Hampton, GA - The BIG ONE happened today. Dale Earnhardt took the pole in the Coca-Cola 500 and was poised to have a good run and was looking to avoid another DNF on the season. The race started out pretty bland for the most part of the race. Mr. T had known since they unloaded the car at practice that it wasn't a gonna be fast enough to keep pace with the leaders. Having known that, he immediately went to the inside and went from 33rd to 43rd on the opening lap. He had thought about just parking the car and collecting another DNF and 43 points, but realized he would have a good shot at getting some valuable seat time and bring home the car in good condition.

Mr T was already running a lap down when the biggest crash of the season occurred. On lap 33 coming off turn 4 when rookie Mike Potter in the #76 got turned around and it happened.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Atlanta500Lap33CrashPart1.jpg
There goes Bill

After the #76 spun around for a bit on the turn he caused two more wrecks on the same lap.

Poor Jimmy Means.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Atlanta500Lap33CrashPart4.jpg
Glad I avoided this [cool]

The crash took out 18 drivers, and ole Mr. T managed to move up from 43rd to 25th. Smart move to stay out there and just run laps and collect points.

After the crash, it was about 40 laps until the next wreck happened. Kyle Petty just managed to tangle up tires in the fenders with Ronnie Hopkins. Kyle suffered no major damage and got going again, but Hopkins suffered major damage and had to pull it behind the wall.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Atlanta500Lap77Crash.jpg
That had to suck.

From that point on, it was green flag racing from here on out. That meant everyone had to make a green flag pit stop. [wow] Luckily for the Zaxby's machine, the pit crew managed to get Mr T out there down only four laps instead of five. That really wouldn't matter as teh #46 got lapped again.

Tim Richmond was leading after the pit stops and came back off from the pits and immediately his header blew. Tough break for him, and this opened the door for DW to dominate the final 25 laps of the race and lap all but Kyle Petty to take home the win.

Nice, Sixth in the standings

Yeah, I'm up there right now. Hopefully I can finish in the top 10 in the standings when it is all said and done.

Smart race. Good thing it wasn't Bristol! Did you ever figure out what your setup problem was? Or is it time to fire the ol' crew chief?

Yeah, thanks I figured it was best to just keep running and hope that someone would crash or have an axle go or an engine expire and pick up points. That 18th finish might decide the difference in me finishing in the Top 10 or finishing out of it.

I think you mean Martinsville. ;) Bristol you can get out of the throttle a little bit and get back on it, at Martinsville you have to SLAM on the brakes and SLAM on the gas. Oh boy my fingers just hurt thinking that.

Yeah the problem is that I need a wheel. :) Won't be able to get one for a while as I'm paying off the new computer, so that means keyboard racing till then. :D

Well, you know it's sort of like Madcat football. When you're dealing with a serious handicap, makes it all the easier to root for you.

(Er, I'm referring to Madcat's sliders. Anybody working on their PhD in genetics is not on the short bus.)

The 1983 TranSouth 500

Darlington, SC - This race should of taken place in Bristol. By the time the race ended everyone could claim they had damage on the car. There was a pissed off Mr. T by the time the race ended and more pissed off racers at each other when the checkered flew.

It was a mere eight laps into the race when Lake Speed, Dale Earnhardt, Bobby Gerhart, and Ken Regan got together and crashed. This brought out the caution and surprisingly all but one driver on the lead lap went in for pits. Ole Mr. T had decided to stay out and pick up a smooth five points. The racing went green and Mr. T was out in front.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Transouth500LeadingEarlyLap23.jpg
Feels good to be out front again :)

Then around lap 31, Buddy Baker thought he was just awesome. I was running second and he got below me coming off the turn and spun me out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Transouth500DarlingtonBuddyBakerS.jpg
#$R%$#%!!!@#$!!!#@$%#$%^#$^$!$!@ [evil]!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So ole Mr. T did his best to minimize the damage that was going to be inflicted upon my car. The #46 chevy avoided getting the front of the car into the wall and managed to have ole Dave Marcis slam into the side of the car. That could be fixed and not really hurt the performance of the car.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Transouth500DarlingtonSaveCarfrom.jpg
Saving the crucial part of the car.

After that, there were a few crashes that involved a single car being spun out, or someone blowing an engine. Around lap 64, Lennie Pond got spun around and brought out the caution. Once again all but Mr. T came in for tires and fuel, so the Zaxby's car was out in front again.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Transouth500DarlingtonLeadingAfte.jpg
The lead wouldn't last for long, but oh how sweet it is. :D

It didn't take long for another caution to come out. On lap 76, a valve on JD McDuffie's car blew and brought out the caution for debris. Mr. T came in and got tires and fuel and racing resumed after the caution. On lap 110, Dick Brooks smacked the wall Darlington style and this caused Mark Martin to hit Joe Ruttman and spin out. While that was going on Mr. T was right behind the action and tried to avoid the crash but got swiped on the front side.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83DarlingtonDickBrookssmackswalland.jpg
Ugh!

The Zaxby's pit crew worked feverishly to keep Mr. T on the lead lap and got the car patched up to almost perfection. Late in the race, about lap 130, Buddy Baker was racing along fine and came off the turn and ole Lennie Pond hit him exactly the same way ole Mr. T got hit. Now all Mr. T could do was smile while driving by and seeing the idiot that spun him out earlier with a crumpled up car.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83Transouth500DarlingtonBuddyBakerg.jpg
hahahahahahahhah!!!!!

So after that, the final stretch in the race had gotten here. The only driver to escape any damage at all was the leader, Terry Labonte. On the final lap of the race, Mr. T had finally caught Darrell Waltrip as he decided it was a good time to meet the Lady in Black. DW hit the wall and spun right down in front of me and ole Mr. T tapped him and he spun out and caused a major crash.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/83DarlingtonTransouth500IspinoutDWf.jpg
Nascar will probably summon the #46 car to the hauler after the race. [oops]

Terry Labonte finally got his second win in his short Nascar career.

The 1983 Northwestern Bank 400

North Wilkesboro, NC - Ah a short track race. Mr. T finally won a pole! The pole was a nice honor to get as that was the first pole in Mr. T's short career. The race turned out to be a real old fashioned race that you would find on a Saturday night.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Wilkes400SpringLeading.jpg
It feels nice to be on the pole at the start of the race. :)

It wouldn't take long as only four laps into the race, a caution occurred. The #31 was just driving along minding his own business and then he met the side of the #66 car. Kyle Petty and Ronnie Thomas were also involved in the crash.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Wilkes400Lap4Crash.jpg
That sucks for the #31 team.

After that caution, we went back to racing. Tim Richmond jumped the start and 'rammed' the back-end of ole Mr. T and caused him to get loose going into turn one. This caused Tim to take the lead and Mr. T fell back to fifth. Around lap 12, Ricky Rudd tried going three wide into the turn underneath Mr. T and that was not the best idea in the world for him to do. This caused Rudd to destroy his car and the side of the #46 Zaxby's car got a 'Darlington stripe'.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Wikes400Lap12Crash.jpg
Poor Rudd, don't go three wide into a turn!

Mr. T came into pit lane and was evidently 'too fast' going into the pits and was given a black flag. So this caused Mr. T to go down two laps. Around lap 23, Nascar flew a caution for debris and this let everyone come in. Ole Mr. T didn't go in and managed to be out in front of Darrell Waltrip on the inside lane on the restart. Both drivers were a lap down, and the points leader DW should of thought better than to do this, but he decided it was a good idea to get revenge on ole Mr. T. On the restart he got underneath the side of Mr. T and turned him around and Mr. T kept on the gas so he wound up upside down for the second time this season! Alas, Darrell was sad to find out that the Zaxby's car wasn't destroyed in the incident as ole Mr. T kept on trucking and got it into pit lane. This pit stop caused Mr. T go down a total of four laps.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Wilkes400DWgetsrevenge.jpg
YOU SON OF A #####!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Wikes400DWrevengepart2.jpg
[evil]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

After the Zaxby's crew got the car fixed the best they could, Mr. T did what he knew he could do best; drive the wheels off the car. It would take some lucky breaks to get back on the lead lap, but with a bullring of a track it was quite feasible. :)

After going green from the DW revenge wreck, it was about 30 laps before the next caution. Mr. T had managed to get the car steady and was making laps but ole Tim Richmond got in the way and Mr. T hadn't forgotten what he had done earlier in the race and gave him a tap on the left side and it caused Tim to spin around and smack the wall. This put Mr. T down only 3 laps.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Wilkes400Lap60MrTrevengeonRichm.jpg
Like I didn't mean to do that [oops]

We got going again and it didn't take long for another wreck to happen. On lap 86, Terry Labonte got in the way of the other guys and managed to SLAM the wall hard. There goes the driver that was second place in points! Terry was alright, but the car was destroyed. [down] This was good for Mr. T however, as he was now only down 2 laps and affected the whole field as people who were making pit stops now were caught because of the caution flag flying.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Wilkes400Lap86Crash.jpg
Ow!

After that caution, there would be some solid green flag racing. It would be quite a while before the next one came out. On lap 127, Buddy Baker was trying to not go down a lap to the leader Geoff Bodine, and in the process hit Ken Regan and brought out the yellow. As Mr. T was going around to collect his free pass, Geoff Bodine took a hit out of him when the drivers were coming around to get lined up behind the pace car. Mr. T didn't come in to get it fixed till later on in the race, but the word is that you didn't want to be listening on his radio. :o

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Wilkes400Lap127Crash.jpg
It's good to be 2 seconds ahead of this [cool]

Finally got to go green for a bit and Mr. T managed to get a jump on the restart and out jump Dale Earnhardt to be on the tail end of the lead lap. It would be a good solid 20 laps until the caution would fly for the final time. On lap 145, Lake Speed wasn't paying attention to his driving and managed to tap Neil Bonnett around and brought out the caution. Ole Mr. T avoided the wreck and managed to be back on the lead lap!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Wilkes400Lap145Crash.jpg
Lake Speed forgot how to hit the brake pedal!

That set up for a 15 lap showdown between Dale Earnhardt, Cale Yarborough, Ron Bouchard, Lake Speed, and Sterling Marlin. The other five on the lead lap wouldn't have a chance to be in it as the lap traffic would get in the way. Dale led for four of the final 15 laps, but Cale managed to take the lead away from Earnhardt when he tapped Earnhardt to get him just loose enough to get around him and take the lead for good. Cale would go on to win his first race of the year!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Wilkes400Calewins.jpg
Cale is truly one tough customer.

There were 11 caution flags for 51 laps and 35 lead changes amongst 9 drivers.

I was pretty elated to finish 10th! The pit crew did a heck of a job to get 'er patched up and get me back out there to stay competitive. I managed to get a jump on the restart and just held on when I got out in front of the leaders. Waltrip and Bodine will get a nice revenge tap from me pretty soon. :D DW really hurt his points lead with that spin on me in the first part of the race. Going in he had a 82 point lead over me and Terry but now it got shrunk to a mere 24 points! :o

Nice! For the record, I hate North Wilkesboro almost as much as Martinsville. What was it Ernie Elliott once said? Put a drain plug in it and fill it with water and you'd have a good pond? [laugh] I'm a big fan of Bristol, however. And Dover. Why don't you update us with a season schedule, the winners so far, and Mr. T's finish on each one?
Done! Check out post 2.

The 1983 Virginia National Bank 500
aka The Junkyard 500

Martinsville, Va - By the time the race was over, all the cars had damage on them. The race opened with Benny Parsons spinning out DK Ulrich. After that, the green flag flew for 15 laps.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983VirginiaNationalBank500MrTLeads.jpg
Getting Five Bonus Points

Around lap 17, Benny Parsons got a dose of his own medicine and managed to get spun out. The spin took him out of the race for the day. After that racing resumed until lap 45 when there was a multi-car pileup.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983VirginiaNationalBank500Lap45Cra.jpg
This is never a good idea

At lap 77, the #01 car lost a tire and smacked the wall, on lap 80 another crash occurred that to take out #74 B Wawak on the pacing laps under caution.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983VirginiaNationalBank500Lap80Cra.jpg
LOL at Bobby Wawak!

Then after that caution, the racing resumed and had a few cautions sprinkled in there. Finally, around lap 140 a major one occurred.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983VirginiaNationalBank500Lap140Ca.jpg
Yeah I'm happy about this.

Cale was impatient behind the #86 car driven by D Sage, so he knocked him out of the way. This caused Mr T to get some more damage on his car to go along with the damage that was sustained thanks to Ron Bouchard hitting Mr. T's car on a cool down caution lap. Mr. T had to come in and pit and as usual got flagged for a black flag for speeding and he had to go to the end of the longest line, but this time was different. Nascar officials said that he 'passed' under yellow and gave him a real black flag. This put Mr. T down two laps.

Geoff Bodine getting spun out by Neil Bonnett on lap 160 helped Mr. T to remove one lap. After the caution flew for a few laps, racing resumed. On lap 180 as Mr. T was making up time for losing two laps, Cale got impatient once again and spun out the driver in front of him. This crash caused the whole right side of Mr. T's car to be damaged, but ol' Mr. T couldn't pit and lose a 12th place spot with so few laps left.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983VirginiaNationalBank500Lap180Ca.jpg
Cale you need to go home!

After the caution finished, the green flag flew for the final time. Mr. T managed to finagle his way around some slower cars and managed to see the two legends battle it out for the win. Bobby Allison and Richard Petty managed to bang fenders on the final few laps but Bobby wasn't strong enough to get past Petty on the last lap and Petty managed to go on to win his 196th race!

I really do enjoy driving at this track. It's hard to drive at because you have to hit your marks going into the turn, but if you can do that you will have a good day.

Looking forward to Talladega!!!!! :)

At least at Talladega you will get some open, real fast-racing.

And at least DW didn't win the damn race. This beat down ass-grabbing is one typical race he likes...and likes to win. Richard Petty winning---thats tolerable.

He led the most laps though. So he stretches his lead on the field a little bit more. Bobby is starting to make a rise in the ranks of the standings and make it a challenge.

I'm looking forward to Talladega, as I'll definitely get that one in this weekend.

The 1983 Winston 500

Talladega, AL - This was a good race. Talladega usually brings out the best in the drivers and the show that is put on is simply awesome. 13 drivers would swap the lead for 21 times today. Ricky Rudd managed to nab his second pole of the year. Too bad he didn't even get to lead a lap. Terry Labonte managed to nab the lead away for the first 5 laps and then ole Mr. T, who started 20th, had worked his way up to take the lead from Terry.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Winston500MrTLeads.jpg
Yeah man I'm enjoying this. :)

It was green flag racing until lap 50 when Benny Parsons had something go wrong with his car and Nascar brought out the caution for the debris on the track. It was a battle from the green flag to that caution, as the drivers had to make two green flag pit stops. Mr T's crew had a problem with a tire and cost him a few spots pushing him back to 26th. After the second stop, the Zaxby's crew got Mr. T out in the 15th position and when the caution flew, ole Mr. T was running 9th.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Winston500ParsonsBringsoutCauti.jpg
Darn, I thought we were gonna go a whole race without a caution.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Winston500MrTWIndshieldLap57.jpg
Thank you Nascar for having the brains to call a caution for debris, it was hard to drive like this!

Pit road was busy during the caution as all 30+ drivers on the lead lap came down and got tires and gas. The Zaxby's crew had a great stop and got Mr. T out in fourth! Harry Gant was leading when the green flag flew and would be shuffled back after a few laps.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Winston500GantLeads.jpg
This is fun

Richard Petty managed to take the lead from Gant and was leading on lap 62 and ole Mr. T was running right behind him. Then with five laps to go, ole Tim "I'm really not a good driver" Richmond got impatient and going into turn one got into Mr. T. This crash would decide the outcome of the race. Richard Petty leading the race was way ahead of the crash and held on to win his 197th race of his career!

The 1983 Marty Robbins 420

Nashville, TN -This was an awesome race! Ole Mr. T was sitting on the pole. The race would run green for the first 58 laps. Durning the green flag run, Dale Earnhardt had something go wrong with his engine once again and retired only 15 laps into the race. The 58th lap saw a multi-car crash when DK Ulrich got turned around and the caution caushed cars to further the damage on the drivers.

Mr. T putting the Points Leader a lap down.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983MartyRobbins420Lap59Crash.jpg
The nasty crash.

During the Pit stops, Bobby Allison was coming out of the pit and Harry Gant was coming into his stall. This proceeded to have Allison hit the rear of Mr. T's car. Luckily for Mr. T, this was a short track and would not affect the car too much.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983MartyRobbins420AllisonRamsMrTon.jpg
You know this wouldn't be a race without Mr. T getting some damage.

We would go racing until around lap 73. On the lap, ole Mr. T got revenge on Tim Richmond. Tim was running a little slow and Mr. T spun him out. Unfortunately for Mr. T, Tim would manage to finish the race.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983MartyRobbins420Lap73MrTSpinsRic.jpg
Payback [oops]

After that, there was two more cautions. The #84 car and Neil Bonnett spun each other around in the turn. This let all the cars come in and get fuel and tires to go the distance. The other caution occurred with about 40 laps to go. Benny Parsons had a tire go down and brought out a caution. This would put him down 5 laps.

After that final caution it was on! Cale Yarborough, Richard Petty, Terry Labonte, Tim Richmond, Harry Gant, Bobby Allison, Geoff Bodine, Joe Ruttman, Kyle Petty, and Mr. T. This set the stage for a 40 lap showdown. It took Mr. T 30 laps to catch the leader, Cale Yarborough. Mr. T had his chances to get around Cale, and could of knocked him out, but Mr T took his time and worked Cale to give the fans a classic finish.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983MartyRobbins420MrTpassesCaleonl.jpg
The last lap!

The final lap was hotly contested. Mr. T got around Cale to take the white flag, and went a little hard into the turn. This allowed Cale to regain the lead for a second. Mr T got around him on the backstretch and took it easy coming into three and four. Off the turn came Mr. T leading Cale by a nose to WIN THE RACE!!!!

Oh Jesus no. Richmond would have won many championships if he didn't pass away. Read up on they guy, he was sick behind the wheel. Juan's good, but isn't Tim Richmond good - yet.

Congrats on the win my man!

I was actually comparing the virtual Tim Richmond's affinity for wrecking fellow competitors to the real-life Juan Pablo Montoya's similar actions. ;)

Way to go Mr T! Be sure to plant a big kiss on Miss Winston. :)

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Way to go Mr. T!

YEAH! That was about what I did after I beat Cale to win the race.

Yaaaaa dude. Your first win and you got revenge on ol Tim Ruchmond.

Question is did you get pulled over by a "cop" ala Days of Thunder after the movie?

Yeah, ole Tim was sad he didn't win. Well, on the way to Dover there was a "cop" that stopped me. [oops]

yah dude awesome.just amazing. There were a couple times you had a chace and someones who i will not mention f'd it up. GREAT WIN!!

Anyways this really makes you appreciate the randomness of it all(hitting you in the pits etc). Maybe EA for once can do that. Sounds kinda like a recycled line doesn't it

Indeed, the whole pit thing was kinda like a WTF moment, I mean that DOES happen. Drivers do have accidents on pit road, see the 1998 Daytona 500. Amazing win at that.

Oh Jesus no. Richmond would have won many championships if he didn't pass away. Read up on they guy, he was sick behind the wheel. Juan's good, but isn't Tim Richmond good - yet.

Congrats on the win my man!

Tim was a tough driver, thus to have him almost kill me at Talladega to turn around to spin him out on the way to my first win in my career was pretty sweet. Not to mention putting ole DW a lap down as well.

Man, count me in as a reader. I had an old version of this game back in '96? or so...This brings back a lot of memories, even though I know nothing about NASCAR outside of that game and semi-annual conversations with my father in-law...Great work!

Thanks, glad you are enjoying it. The NR 1 game was pretty fun, only thing was I couldn't run it on full graphics on my first computer so I had to have it scaled back some, and I had to race with a keyboard. Wish I had my stats from back then, I was pretty good on a keyboard then too.

Awesome you won also 420.. heheheheheh 420. Yep, glad you are enjoying it.

That flagman's looking down at you, going WTF??
[laugh] Yeah, I'm sure burnouts weren't the most popular thing in the world back in 83.

Way to go Mr T! Be sure to plant a big kiss on Miss Winston. :)

Yep, Miss WInston was indeed happy that a 20 year old was kissing her. Thanks!

Yay for winning. YOU owned Tim Richmond. And you got damaged in the pits.Yep, ole Tim got what was coming to him. This rivalry with he and DW has been on going since the start of the season.
Yeah I got damaged in the pits, I was looking in my rear view mirror and saw that happening and I was like oh no and then it was a WHAM. Damage to the back end.

For all you Nascar History Buffs, tell me who was the other driver to get his win at Nashville?

Thanks for reading guys. Dover will be run tomorrow and I qualified second!

The 1983 Mason-Dixon 500

Dover, DE - What a tough track Dover is! 200 laps at Dover is not an easy challenge. The Monster Mile as it is affectionally called, didn't have much in the way of crashes, but it did have a tremendous effect on the points standings with the few cautions that occurred. Bobby Allison won the pole, with Mr. T sitting on the outside pole. The green flag flew to start the race and just like that, Bobby Allison was leading by a half a second. DW got around Mr. T on the fifth lap and for the next 46 laps the running order was Bobby Allison, Darrell Waltrip, Mr T and Tim Richmond.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983MasonDixon500Lap40Green.jpg
Pretty much was like this the first fourth of the race.

Around lap 60 green flag pit stops finally occurred in Nascar. This was a shock to most fans watching on TV as usually there is a caution that comes out that prevents a green flag stop. However, the Zaxby's crew was ready to go and got Mr. T out and actually gained 5 spots from the miscue Mr T had when he got out of the groove and fell back to 18th.

Finally, on lap 89 a caution occurred. Bobby Allison was minding his own business after the pit stop and was working his way back to the lead when the #02 car hit him and caused him to SLAM the front wall and took him out of commission for the race.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983MasonDixon500Lap89Crash.jpg
There goes the 8th place racer in the points.

Racing resumed and didn't take long until another caution came out. On lap 100, Ron Bouchard got hit by rookie Sterling Marlin.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983MasonDixon500Lap100Crash.jpg
LOL! [laugh]

Finally racing resumed and during the green flag run, Mr T had to work his way up from the back in the pack. Making his way up from the 30th position and working his way up to around 15th when Cale thought it was a good idea to get around someone the old fashioned way.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983MasonDixon500CaleGetsFrustrated.jpg
Cale you gotta stop doing that when I'm running a few spots from you!

Joe Ruttman somehow managed to save the car and keep on going without bringing out a caution. Racing was good and clean from lap 100 to lap 174. Mr. T had managed to work his way up from 30th to all the way up to 6th when there was 26 to go. The crash occurred when Cale was once again being aggressive and tried to get around the 4th place in the points driver, Terry Labonte. The crash destroyed Terry's car but nicked up Cale's car. Now it was time to pit.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983MasonDixon500Lap174Crash.jpg
Yeah I'm glad I'm not him!

The drawback of pitting while up front, was that he had to come in and pit and get tires and gas. This proved costly as it took Mr. T out of the running. Mr. T's ole rival DW managed to get the pit stop behind him and proceeded to RAM the back of the car thus destroying any chance he had to finish in the top 10. The accident also messed up DW's car so bad that he would finish 3 laps down.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983MasonDixon500Lap174Pit.jpg
[glare] He must want to keep up the rivalry!

That damage just completely took Mr. T out of running for the win, but didn't take him out of the race. Mr T got to miss a great battle in the final 26 laps where Neil Bonnett, Richard Petty, Buddy Baker, Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott, and Geoff Bodine battled it out. When the dust settled, Richard Petty was once again a victor. This was his 198th career victory!

There were 87 lead changes amongst 28 drivers. Only 4 caution flags waved for a total of 16 laps.

Woo boy this race really tested my resolve, patience, and focus. It was side by side racing from the middle of the pack on back, which I was in for most of the day. I was working my way up to the front slowly to hope to get a top 10 and gain some more points. But oh well, this race really did jumble up the points standings quite a bit, DW's lead shrunk from 54 points to 39. His distance to the 5th place was 134 and now it's 110. He had a 261 point lead on 10th place and now it's 226. The race is tightening with 20 races to go! :)

Man I tell you, I seem to have drawn some of the best in the business as my rival.

Had this been a short track, I don't think the damage in the pits would of screwed up anything, ala Nashville. But we'll get 'em at Bristol.

Bristol should be fun, I'll be running that one tomorrow as I am starting 17th. 200 laps and I expect half of them to be caution laps. [laugh]

The 1983 Valleydale 500

Bristol, TN - The top 5 in points heading into this race was like this;

1. Darrell Waltrip 1326 Points
2. Mr. Tennessee 1287 Points
3. Cale Yarborough 1287 Points
4. Tim Richmond 1249 Points
5. Richard Petty 1216 Points

With this being a race at Bristol, one would just know that the points standings would change drastically again. This was an annoying race from the outset. It didn't take two laps before a crash occurred.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Valleydale500Lap1Crash.jpg
Dadgum there goes The Silver Fox. :(

This was the first of only two major crashes in the race. The rest of the cautions came from accidents in the pits and scraping of walls coming off the turns. Mr. T had managed to work his way up from 17th to 1st in 15 laps.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Valleydale500MrTLeading.jpg
Yeah out front and getting 5 bonus points! [cool]

While leading it was around lap 60 when the last of the big wrecks occurred, and ole Mr T was involved in it. Coming to the caution flag people were trying to get their laps back and Mr. T had slowed down to take the caution and Allison and others hit Mr. T and he went sliding and spinning around. This took Mr. T out of the race and they took 7 laps down and out of the race.

And the #03 Car slams me in the left side and there goes my day. :(

The Zaxby's crew managed to fix what they could on the car, but the engine was mostly damaged and took Mr. T out of being competitive so all Mr. T could do was run laps and not get a dreaded DNF, but Mr. T did get some much wanted revenge on a driver by the name of Buddy Baker who spun him out at Darlington.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Valleydale500Lap120Caution.jpg
Yeah I know he just looooooves me. :)

After the lap 120 crash we finally went racing with minimal cautions. It was a battle in the final 20 laps and only four drivers were on the lead lap to battle for the win; Tim Richmond, Bobby Allison, Bill Elliott, and Lake Speed. It was a back and forth battle with Tim and Bobby through the final laps and on lap 198 Tim made the pass to secure his first victory of the year.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/MrTennessee/1983Valleydale500Lap198Passforwin.jpg
Gets underneath Bobby going into turn 1 and leads to his win.

2. Mr Tennessee 1401 Points
3. Darrell Waltrip 1381 Points
4. Terry Labonte 1364 Points
5. Cale Yarborough 1356 Points

There were 34 Lead changes amongst 11 drivers. There were also 16 caution flags for 81 laps.

I didn't have the car to win, but I figured if I could get out of here with a top 10 it would be a good showing for the team. On to the World 600! [cool]

Spinning out Public Enemy #3 Buddy Baker (RIP) = priceless.

At least you held on to 2nd place in the points. Always looking for a silver lining. Good luck in the next race.

Yeah, it was a weird race. The cautions kept coming and it was annoying when that happen. Thanks for the writeup. I'm going in a little bit uncharted waters when I do these write-ups as I've never done any race write-ups before. So this is a little bit of trial and error for me. :)
