This is my Road to the Show career of Chase David.

Name: Chase David
Ht: 6'2''
Wt: 195 lbs.
Bats: R
Throws: R
Born: 6-11-88
Arlington, TX

David quickly became a national name his final season at Arlington Bowie HS as he rewrote the national record books striking out an astonishing 22 batters per game, besting the previous mark by three strikeouts per game. David became the number one baseball prospect in the nation before breaking his arm in the 5A state championship against Humble Kingwood. Growing up in Arlington he quickly became a fan of Nolan Ryan and on his second birthday got his wish granted as he and his father flew to Oakland to watch Ryan pitch for the first time, and wasn’t disappointed as Ryan struck out 15 batters on his way to a 6th no hitter. This wasn’t the only no hitter of Ryan’s he would attend as almost a year later David would witness Ryan strike out 16 batters on his way to an unprecedented 7th no hitter. After the game Ryan was told of David and his father being in attendance for both games and signed a baseball and jersey of which David still has framed with both ticket stubs. It was at this point David knew he wanted to become a pitcher and would imitate Ryan throwing baseballs up against the fence in the back yard for hours and in last weeks amateur draft the dream came full circle as the Texas Rangers selected David in the first round. Upon arriving at the team facilities he told reporters his family has dreamt of this moment for years and when asked what his goals are David responded by saying, “I now have my chance to be just like Nolan Ryan, to become the greatest strikeout pitcher of all-time.”

So Chase David averaged striking out EVERYONE and one during extra innings during HS? Holy crap.

Strikeout King no More?

David disappoints in spring debut.

Tempe, AZ – Rangers number one pick Chase David’s spring training debut got off with a bang as he gave up an infield single, a walk, and a three run homer to Todd Helton to start off the game. Coming off an arm injury David’s fastball was limited to the mid-80s and had to rely mostly on his underdeveloped curveball. “I was nervous to start the game,” said David, but he seemed to calm down a little after the home run as he retired the next six batters he faced striking out two of them. Then came the inning that never ended as David walked two, gave up six hits, and five runs in the third before finally getting out of the inning. When asked after the game what was the hardest thing about the game David responded, “I was pitching without my biggest weapon.” While in high school David’s fastball would routinely reach 97 mph and he never really had to develop any other pitches. Coaches say he should close to 100 percent by the end of spring. We will just have to wait until then to see if David is the new strikeout king.

Effective Encore for David

New Rangers hurler impresses in second start

Tempe, AZ – Chase David earns a win in three inning shut out. When asked what he will remember most about his first win David responded, “Getting Barry Bonds to hit into an inning ending double play.” At the time is was shades of his first start, man on first with a big slugger at bat, “That out changed my whole mindset,” said David after the game. After a shaky first inning David showed a dramatic improvement from game one scattering five hits and striking out two. “This was a big moment for the kid, I’m proud of him,” said coach Ron Washington. While the fastball still hasn’t returned to form David was able to effectively mix the curveball in to keep hitters off balance, “I worked with coach [Mark] Connor on my days off to improve my curveball and it showed today,” stated David. The Rangers hope he continues to improve as they are still in search of a number five starter.

Will the real Chase David please stand up?

In true Jeckle and Hyde fashion David gives up three homers and five runs in loss.

Tempe, AZ – Ranger fans are asking who is the real Chase David as the telephone lines at local radio station 1310 The Ticket lit up after his recent outing against the Diamondbacks. David now appears to be loosing ground in the race for the number five spot in the rotation due mainly because of a lack of consistency that can be directly tied to his lack of control. While only allowing one walk David could not locate his fastball, and with his fastball still only clocking 90 mph most of his pitches were left right over the plate and the Diamondbacks took advantage. David book ended two superb innings of work where he struck out two and didn’t allow a hit, with a home run in the first and two home runs in his final inning of work as the Rangers drop one 16-1.
