We've had a lot of cases lately where people failed to read the forum rules. To clarify: you are only allowed one account here. Not two, not four, not seven, not more. If your friends want to post from your machine, the wise way is to give the mods a heads up. We certainly want to encourage referrals, but we do not want:

1) People creating accounts to agree with themselves.
2) People creating accounts to change their username. (We can nearly always change it for you on request, and are glad to help.)
3) People creating accounts because their existing account is broken. (Contact a forum admin and they'll help you.)
4) Circumventing of bans (obviously, but this is not really the subject of the discussion here).

If you have a specific purpose for which you'd like an exception to the rule, talk to us. If we think it would add anything to the site, we'll probably be okay with it. And in all such cases, get a PM from the mods and don't delete it. That way, two years down the road when the staff has changed a bit and everyone's forgotten and someone drops the hammer by mistake, you'll have documentation that we okayed it, and we'll fix the snafu for you.

This situation follows what I consider the Golden Rule of Utopia: keep the mods in the loop, ask first if you aren't sure, and no harm can come to you. Or if it does by mistake, we'll fix it. We are not looking for reasons to ban people, nor to interfere with having fun, nor to drive off new users. Other boards don't care about this. We do, and we have solid reasons for it. We'll be very glad for your cooperation.
