Well guys....my $60 dollar right to bitch about the Ncaa game will be up in about four months.[laugh]. What the heck am I'm I going to do come this July. Spend yet another $60 bucks to renew my right?:D Please don't take this post too seriously guys, I'm just blow'n some time here. I feel my time with the Ncaa series drawing to its end, which saddens me greatly. I'm for once not going to just bash the hell out of the game, but....I don't know....maybe try to come to peace with the thought that the Ncaa game may never deliver the game experince I'm looking for.
In my youth I was a big NFL fan and followed the pro game very closely while not really paying that much attention to the college game. As a kid, the coverage of the NFL was huge [as it still is today] and the pro game had by that time really became America's faviorte pastime. I remember Joe Kapp, the QB of our Minnesota Vikings...after leading our "Purple Gang" to Super Bowl IV in 1969, and being routed by the Cheifs 23-7....Jan.11, 1970 was a day of morning here in the Northland. Oddly enough, that years team became the stuff of folk-lore....maybe more in defeat, than if they had won....which most of us, and the experts thought they would. Our Vikings had played their guts out...they spilled their blood and tears throughout the 4th qrt, even while really, all hope of victory was gone. That Viking team, and their leader Joe Kapp made us proud....and our hero's up here to this day. [At least for people old enough to remember] They seemed to kinda be like us [Minnesotains] no real flash and dance, just hardworking SOB's and style meant very little....it was substance that mattered.
It was the golden age of Vikings football....playing at the old Met Stadium, playing in the snow and freezing cold, and coach Bud Grant allowed no heaters on the sidelines. [no gloves either] Other teams coming into the "Met" in december at that time were in for a bastard of a time. Facing the conditions, 49,000 drunken bleeding purple fans....and OUR "North's Men. Damm good chance of frostbite and missing teeth, could be the price you'll pay today!
The NFL and the players were covered differently back then....the players were bigger than life. You just didn't hear of drug use, and them beating up their wife's...or that their second cousins son was a meth user. Not that horse$hit things weren't going on at that time....but they kept the coverage of the players to what was going on, on the field, not so much their personal lives. At that time one of the biggest deals was Joe Namath, shocking people by wearing white shoes and having long hair....ya....things have changed a tad.
Like I said guys....I'm just blown so time here.:) Anywho....the coverage of college football at that time [up here anyway] was in a word....pittiful. The only real time ya saw much of the college game was new years day....period. But now!....for God's sake, every saturday is like new years day![smile] Most saturdays I'm watching my beloved college football from 10 am till 10 pm, plus the thursday night games. The only drag about saturdays now is....alot of times there's up to FIVE games being shown on tv at the sametime!....and I have to choose which one to watch. Man!....what a problem to have.:)
Over time, I just grew tired of the pro game. Tired of the players who thought they were bigger than their teammates....bigger than their coaches and the team as a whole, and for Christ sake....even bigger than the law. [and sadly sometimes they are.] I slowly turned my attention to college football, and never really looked back. I love college football for all the same reasons as my fellow Utopians do, the list is just too long as to why the college game kicks a$$ on the NFL. I'm ready now to come to my point.:D
I just want a great playing college football home video game to fart around with. I don't expect it to be perfect....just very playable, without glaring flaws that jump off the screen at you that make the game just silly looking, and almost impossible to play and enjoy. What makes things even worst is, to see the time and effort thats put into the Madden game that makes it so popular....and just a damm good playing, fun and challenging football game to enjoy. With features added to it that make the game [in most cases even better], vs [in many cases] features that are added to the Ncaa game that serve to "F" it up more than anything else.
To see features in the Madden game that really add to the games playing experince, and replay value....features that even years later, haven't found their way into the Ncaa game. Again...not meaning to bash, but just stating facts as I see them. IMO....Ncaa gamers deserve the same treatment as Madden gamers do, Ncaa should be every bit as good as it's NFL brother. If EA Sports is going to charge the same price for each of these two games, the games should be equal in value....anything short of that is just plain unfair....period. However....year in a year out, Ncaa falls short in replay value and features that inhance the games playing experince. And all the bitching in the world from me will do nothing to change anything. IMO....Ncaa is what it is, a game that is second fiddle to Madden, always has been....and I expect always will be.
I spent sometime looking back at some of the posts I've made lately, and feel as though I made at least afew valid points, but overall they were just a "Bitchfest" that added nothing of value to the board. It's just such a drag to believe that the Ncaa game could be the very best sports game out there, if only EA spent the resoures to make it so. I've done some big talking lately, about how I won't just buy Ncaa '08' blah blah blah, but I know I'll be the first one at GameStop the day the game is released. Because I love college football, and I'll have to see for myself if the game is any closer to what I'm looking for. The main difference I hope to make this time around is....if Ncaa '08' is not what I expect, or hope for, bummer....but I hope to remember the bitching serves no real purpose, suggestions yes....but not bitching.
Here's to hopeing Ncaa '08' will be a dang solid game...if not, I sure do like Madden![smile]
