2005 Peach Bowl
Down 40-3, late in the 4th quarter, the Miami Hurricanes were ultimately defeated. The LSU Tigers, led by JaMarcus Russell, were unstoppable. The Hurricanes, led by Kyle Wright, were being punished by the Tiger defense. The passing game, running game, and even special teams were not moving at all. That's when it all began.
Coach Larry Coker called Kyle Wright to the sideline in the last minute. "Sit down," He simply said. Wright stomped off, and flung himself on the bench. He buried his head in his hands. Meanwhile, a virtual unknown was about to shine. Larry Coker found the #14 jersey in the midst of orange, and pulled him onto the field. A young boy from Georgia, with the name of Colt Jordan. Jordan was all-state in highschool and was one of the most heavily recruited players. Many compared him to Chris Leak in high school.
But now it was his time. Coker told him the first play of the drive: QB option. The Hurricanes lined up, with roughly a minute left to suffer. The Tiger linemen stared down the new quarterback. Jordan walked up to the line, and glanced at Sinorice Moss. He pointed to him, and Moss pointed back. Then Jordan took the snap. He dropped back, and faked a deep ball to Moss. The secondary took the fake, and then Jordan sped off. He ran to the sideline, gaining about 10 yards before being knocked out of bounds. A few more plays like this, and Jordan had 30 yards rushing. On the last play of the game, Jordan rolled out to the the left. He pump faked and outran a defender to the right side of the field. But Jordan was hit in the legs by a defensive lineman. Amazingly, Jordan backpedaled and got away from him, then managed to scramble upfield for a 20 yard gain to end the game.
That was hit only playing time since he was a freshman. Many NFL scouts wanted to see more of Jordan, since his playing tapes were from 4 years ago. Jordan was permitted to the NFL Combine, where he excelled in the 40-yard dash, but was average in the throwing drills.
A quarterback, who only had a minute of playing time his whole senior season, was now one of the top passers in the draft. But it was only hype.

NFL Draft
Jordan sat, awaiting his name to be called. He was one of the few who was invited to the Draft, over other stars such as LenDale White. Names like Leinart, Young, and Cutler went before him. But Colt was patient. He would rather be a diamond in the rough than an early pick and be a bust. But of course he didn't want to be Mr. Irrelevant.
The second round came and passed. The third round slowly went by. Big names were being still picked though. Eric Winston, Ashton Youboty, Brian Calhoun, and Jordan. Yes, Colt Jordan. With the 26 pick, a joint pick, the Buccaneers picked up Colt Jordan and Maurice Stovall. Jordan walked up to the stage and took his #1 Buccaneers jersey.
Stovall and Jordan would soon become better acquantices, but now it was immediately time for training camp. John Gruden favored Jordan highly, and saw alot of talent in him.
The next month was full of sweat and heat. But for Chris Simms and Colt Jordan, it was full of battling. Simms started the practices out easy-going, but then when Jordan started firing passes and hitting linebackers, Simms stepped it up.
At the end of the month, however, the new quarterback was a #14. Colt Jordan, in less than 8 months, had gone from a college backup to a starter in the NFL. But his first game would tell it all.

Jordan's first pro start: Baltimore Ravens
Colt Jordan and Maurice Stovall began getting acquanted in practice. So did the touchdown markers. Stovall was Jordan's favorite target, mainly because of his speed. But Jordan also chose to room with Stovall due to them both being rookies.
Stovall would also be making his first start against the Ravens. Jordan and Stovall would leave their mark.
The 1st quarter was scoreless. Jordan took alot of hits and tried to scramble too often. But he learned quickly that his arm would not betray him. The beginning of the 2nd quarter marked Jordan's 1st career touchdown. A 6 yard pass from Jordan's bootleg pass was to Cadillac Williams, who Jordan had befriended. The Ravens immediately score back with a 63 yard bomb from Kyle Boller to Wilcox to make it 7-7.
Then Jordan made the play of the day. On a pitch to Cadillac Williams, Jordan did the unthinkable. Instead of doing the custom of just watching, he began to run full-speed beside Williams. When Ed Reed met Williams at the sideline, Jordan threw himself into Reed, allowing Williams to scoot 52-yards for the score, and after a failed 2-point conversion, the lead 13-7. The Ravens once again answered back with a 77 yard pass to Moore to make it 14-13, Baltimore.
The 1st half was ended on 4th and goal, when Jordan dove into the corner of the endzone for his first rushing touchdown. After lining up at tailback and running it in for the 2-point conversion, the Bucs went into the half leading 21-14.

The ensueing Bucs drive led to another score. Cadillac took a pitch, this time without the blocking of Colt Jordan, and managed to go 61 yards for the score, 28-14. The Ravens could not move the ball on offense, and were held to punting. The Bucs drive was full of runs, but it was stopped early. Michael Pittman fumbled, and the Ravens got it back. The Bucs got the ball back after a punt and got back to work.
The drive was full of short passes and long runs, one of those being the 8-yard run by Cadillac Williams to make it 34-14. The Ravens and then the Bucs drives stalled, the Bucs still in the lead. The Ravens opted to go for it on 4th and one, but Jamal Lewis was stuffed. The Bucs drive went alright, but they missed the field goal at the end. The Ravens tried to come back with a 69 yard pass to the rookie Demetrius Williams, but the game was over 34-24.

Post-game Diary
"Today was amazing. My first pro start was one of the greatest rookie performances ever, or so said Coach after the game. Coach also told me to keep up the good work. I get Monday and Tuesday off coach said.
I sat with Maurice on the plane ride home. I wish he would've gotten that inch more on that one pass that he ran to the goaline. Me and him are going to be the next Montana/Rice.
Cadillac was named player of the week, but coach said I was the press' #2 guy. Cadillac always teases me about throwing that block for him, but I tell him that without me he wouldn't have had all those yards.
Next week we play Atlanta, so before the game I took the time to set up my new Tivo and record the Atlanta game while I was gone. I'm going to watch the defensive reads, especially DeAngelo Hall and Lawyer Milloy.
Until Next Time."

Trying to Repeat: Atlanta Falcons
Colt Jordan met another acquantice before the game. Alex Smith, the 1-year tight end. During practice that week, Colt and Smith hooked up various times. Colt wanted to take that into the game and make it a factor like he did Stovall.
Wearing their throwback jerseys, the Bucs came into Atlanta ready to fight. And it showed. On their first drive however, they didn't score. As a matter of fact, Atlanta scored. After driving downfield nicely, Colt Jordan ran out of the pocket for a 10-yard pickup, but fumbled. Hartwell took it 86 yards for the score to make it 7-0. The Bucs drive stalled, and on 4th down, a wide open Hilliard dropped the drive saving catch. The Falcons ran all over the Bucs with Michael Vick and Warrick Dunn, but had to settle for a field goal to make it 10-0. On the following drive, Colt did what he knew best: run. He began to pass in the redzone, and hooked up with Joey Galloway for a 12 yard touchdown, making the score 10-7.
The Falcons tried to answer back, but they were forced to punt. The Bucs drive had a couple 4th down conversions, but after one of the many runs by Jordan that set up a 4th and inches, Colt couldn't go in again and the Bucs punted. The Falcons ended up doing nothing and punted again. In a twisted chain of events, the drive ended up with Chris Simms throwing a touchdown to Alex Smith instead of Jordan. At halftime the score was 14-10, Bucs.

DeAngelo Hall looked to mess up
Colt's amazing start to the season
The Falcons frist drive of the 2nd half ended in a punt. The Bucs drive seemed to be doing good, but then Jordan threw an interception to Keith Brooking. The Bucs got the ball back off a punt, and started their drive with a few short passes. Halfway into the drive, Colt started to click. Colt finally got the pass he had been waiting for all day, a 37 yard touchdown pass to Joey Galloway to make the score 21-10.
The Falcons drive was long and slow. But on 3rd down, Vick was sacked. But the Falcons went for it on 4th, and got the 1st with a long pass. But they went 3 and out after that so settled for a field goal to make it 21-13. The Bucs drive was long too, and full of 4th down conversions. On one, Jordan scrambled out to the sideline, but Joey Galloway missed the block and so Colt was taken down a yard short. The Falcons drive ended short this time, and they punted. The Bucs drive ended quick too, on a 4th down try. The Falcons tried to score on their next drive, but too ended on 4th down. The Falcons got the ball back on a punt with 25 seconds left. But they couldn't pull off the comeback, and the Bucs won 21-13.
Colt Jordan: 19-44, 244 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 13 carries, 109 rush yards

Post-game Diary
"Sunday was horrible. I got over 200 yards passing but I had too many incompletions. I got a career high rushing yards, but the incompletions still bother me. I was under 43%, but Coach said don't worry about it because we got the win.
Mom emailed me and told me I was a neighborhood hero. I can't wait to go up so I can eat my favorite: steak and mashed potatoes.
The day before the game in Atlanta I drove down to Miami to watch their game. Everyone was happy to see me. Even coach Coker said how proud he was."
