I don't know why I am letting myself do this franchise, as I am a Titans fan, and the Titans and Steelers are rivals, but anyway...

I am doing a franchise (Owner mode on) with Pittsburgh. I am playing with 5 minutes, on All-Pro, with wolverine318's sliders.

Steelers get new Owner

The Pittsburgh Steelers' staff announced the new owner of the franchise, Mike Carroll. Carroll is a coach who had much success coaching the Virginia Tech Hokies and the San Antonio Desperadoes, formerly known as the Atlanta Falcons.

Carroll picked a good team to manage. Here are their rankings from 2002-2003:

Scoring : 8th
Pass Offense: 7th
Rush Offense: 9th
Pass Defense: 20th
Rush Defense: 1st
Turnovers: 15th

Here is Carroll's Steeler's scouting report.

"Last year, Tommy Maddox, the former XFL MVP, threw for 2,836 yards and 20 touchdowns while sharing time with Kordell Stewart, who is no longer a Steeler. The two star running backs can give defenses headaches. Jerome Bettis can pound it up the middle with ease. Amos Zereoue, a West Virginia grad who led Pittsburgh in 2002 with 762 yards. Hines Ward will be expected to catch balls in traffic. Big Plaxico Burress (6'5", 228 lbs.) will be used for long throws.

Pittsburgh runs a 3-4 defense, with four of the best linebackers in the NFL. Outside linebackers Jason Gildon and Joey Porter played in the Pro Bowl after a great 2002 season, while Kendrell Bell and James Farrior can dominate as middle linebackers. The rookie safety out of USC, Troy Polamalu, is expected to start and help the Steelers' poor pass defense.

Antwaan Randle El hopes to have success as a kick returner."

After asked what he will do with the franchise, Carroll replied:

"My first priority is pleasing fans. I will use low ticket and concession prices, at least the first year. I would like to use many trick plays this season. This may not attract fans, but it will excite fans at the game, and could help us score.

I don't know if I will move the team any time soon. I would enjoy moving, but it will take a lot of money. Also, the Steelers have a new stadium, and I would feel guilty about moving."

He was then asked about what he wants as far as players:

"After coaching Virginia Tech, I am a little biased, and I love VT players. I would like to get players such as Andre Davis, and Lee Suggs. I am looking forward to players such as DeAngelo Hall, Kevin Jones, Bryan Randall, and Nathaniel Adibi. But, of course, I won't just get VT alumni. I will try to get the best possible."

After receiving a note, Carroll quickly left the podium after saying, "Sorry, but I must leave. I look forward to managing the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thank you for coming.

CB Chad Scott returned two interceptions for touchdowns.

Down by 3 at the end of the game, the Steelers ran a no-huddle offense on the last drive. Plaxico Burress caught the ball on a fake-spike, and was stopped at the 2 yard line. But with only 5 seconds left, Pittsburgh couldn't set up again to score.

The Ravens won 31-28.

I'll be losing for a while. I've only had the game a little less than two weeks, and I am horrible. But, mainly I lose because it is too hard to defend the CPU pass on Madden.

Owner Mike Carroll's Press Conference

"This game surprised many, including me. After a pitiful game against Baltimore, I thought that Kansas City would give us trouble.

We made several changes the week before the game. For starters, we now use a playbook similar to that which Mr. Capers used with the Houston Texans.

We also now use Amos Zereoue as a starter instead of Bettis. Bettis is now used only for short yardage plays, or to surprise the defense. We also put him in a bit at fullback.

The outside linebackers, Jason Gildon and Joey Porter are going to be blitzing a lot. This wil help our pass rush, as we use a 3-4 defense.

Our defense against Kansas City was on and off. We were strong against the run, limiting Priest Holmes to 61 yards. But the Chiefs were able to throw for over 200 yards.

I was fairly happy with our offense. Plaxico Burress had some trouble catching, but when our receivers did catch the ball, magic seemed to happen after the catch. I will probably be using Amos Zereoue as a receiver often in later weeks.

Thank you for coming to this conference. I look forward to playing the Bengals next week.

Mike Carroll:

"I was disappointed by this game. I honestly expected Pittsburgh to blow Cleveland away. But they gave us a tough game, and I respect them for that. I just wonder how the game would be different if Quincy Morgan was not injured.

I was most disappointed by our passing game. Maddox threw three interceptions, and even Amos Zereoue threw an interception. And one of those interceptions was by a lineman.

Our defense was so-so. We held them to only 166 yards total, but we couldn't force a turnover. Hopefully this defense will improve before we play Denver next week."
