How do you stop the TE corner routes, especially out of the Ace Big 3 TE set?

This play kills me and it is really pissing me off because it's the only play my buddy runs 90% of the time he passes.

thanks.

Shade your safety to one side, and manually defend the other side has worked pretty well for me.

I must be totally retarded, cause I can't get corner routes to work. 90% of the time the CB or safety comes over and swats the ball down.

I've tried high throw, gunning, leading...nothing seems to let me get the ball over the defender and to the outside shoulder of the wr.

How do you shade on the 360? Fluffy if you rollout to the side that TE is running the route the play is money 99% of the time.

I see. I never roll out. Seems pretty lame if that's what you have to do to throw a fairly fundamental type of pass.

Thanks Carl!! The corner routes are WAY too effective in this game.

OK I labbed this a bit last night. You don't have to roll out to the play side, you just have to make the throw just before the WR makes his break. I had been try to wait til the wr looked like he was about to clear the db and that's why the db was always swatting the ball down.

Also, I will say this, the streak-corner-curl combo is probably the most deadly thing in the game....I know some guys here and at VG had a whole big discussion about using this combo for the passing game. It just destroys any kind of cover-2 defense...which I guess is why coaches use it in real life:

..................................|............... ../
..................................|.............../
..................................|............./
..................................|.............|. ............./|
..................................|.............|. ..............|
OT..OG..C..OG..OT........|.............|.......... ...WR
.................................WR.........WR

The inside streak will pull the deep safety away, and the wr curl will keep the CB down. Then you'll have a one-on-one matchup for the corner route which is really tough to defend without help over the top. Spurrier used this a lot.

Cover three or four should - in theory - help out against this, though I didn't really lab that. I just made a quick read for the play...watch the safety on that side to see how he drops..which gives you a pretty instant coverage read, then look at the CB ad see what he does...if he drops back, hit the curl, otherwise hit the corner.

Its pretty sick.

Take it from a former QB, the corner route is NOT a fundamental pass.

And yes, throwing just before the break creatly increases the success rate.

I've seen this play kill a lot of coverages too.

I've seen the corner route work on this play a lot. You have to pick your poison. If you play Cover 2, you have to choose between playing the corner route, or the streak (or even the post). Cover 3, the corner route will be open because the corner will take the streak, and the middle safety will take the post. Cover 4 (depending on whether the DB/LB decides to play the flats or the purple zone), the drag route, or corner route will be open. If you play man, they can scramble all day on you.

C'mon man, you were a shitty QB...and you played for Purdue. :p

It may not have been fundamental to your offense, but it was the bread and butter of Spurrier's offense...corner route to the sidelines and drop it where the only guy who can get it is your wr.

Yeah, and if you can throw it, you win and dominate in college just like the Gators did. Its very difficult to defend but even harder to throw. It takes a semi strong arm and great touch.

It takes talented WR's...

Indiana talent VS Florida talent.

WHen I throw my corner route, I don't throw it before the break. I double tap the button and keep the lead on the d pad up and to the side.

If it's man a better WR will get to it... And the saftey can't cheat without leaving the middle open.

Height of the receiver may also play a role. If he's chucking it up to a 6'6 6'7 TE then it could be money. Bump and run and really manufacture pressure.
