Practicing last night with the empty sets, I discovered that I was largely using basic run-and-shoot pre-snap read principles. And unlike previous years, it was actually working.
VG had (dunno if they still do) a long-running RNS thread about how to make reads for the offense, and one of the basic principles is to look for 'uncovered' men...basically with no defender lined up directly in coverage.
So, going through Ace Empty 5W plays in practice...that's what I started doing. If there was a guy with nobody on him at the line, I'd just quick hit. This works well for routes like ins/outs and posts/corners where the first part of the route is a streak. Unlike in the past, when you quick throw it will actually work!
Anyway, I'm thinking that 360 may be near nirvana for run and shooters..they even have WR reads in the game. I'm gonna have to dig up that original thread to refresh myself on more of the philosophy.
