This is a blatant ripoff of a thread over at OS. [smile]

On defense:

Push up on the right stick immediately after the snap to commit your defense to the pass. Pushing down commits your team to the run.

Pushing the B button does cycle players before snap, but holding B and also pushing in a direction on the left stick will select the player you are pushing towards (a la NFL 2k)

Offense

To send a guy in motion or hot route, the manual says to push B to cycle through your receivers. This works, but if you want to send the receiver on the right side of the field in motion, you usually have to push B 4 or 5 times, wasting valuable seconds. Instead, hold B and push to the the left stick in the direction of where your receiver is and it will go there a whole lot faster.

Vision Cone

Either move the right stick to bring it up or pull the left trigger and the corresponding receiver's button to lock on to the receiver.

If anyone thinks of something else, please post it here.

lol, EA gets lazier with the manual every year. I give it two years before it's just a card with a picture of a control on it.

very, very true[glare]

actually i'm surprised more games don't come with a built in tutorial, kind of like madden. last year(ps2) they had the 3 or 4, 5 min tutorials that showed you how to do everything...is something like that not in the game?

Not on 360.

yeah, i figured that and have been planning on that, seeing as madden didn't have anything like that...guess i'll have to read this year:p

I'm on PS2 and they didn't even spring for color on the front of the manuals. Apparently EA spent all their money on exclusivity contracts and buying the ESPN rights.

How the hell do I do a hot route? In the old gamecube days, you'd press Y and then select a receiver and press the directional pad for the desired route. I can't figure it out on the 360!

I think you have to hit audible, and do a few things....its a bitch from what I have seen. I also keep accidently jumping the snap too early by pressing Y on defense as well [oops]

The controls are taking time to get used to, but damn this game is a whole lot of fun.

i will not have the game until morning, but in the demo, you had to select your receiver (as if you were going to set them into motion), then hit Y, and then the route menu came up....

Is there a "match-up" stick thing available? I'm really starting to realize how much I used that to take advantage and plan my attack on offense/defense.

Another new system, the next generation system... and a 9 page manual, is EA lazy or what...[glare]

Push up on the right stick immediately after the snap to commit your defense to the pass. Pushing down commits your team to the run.Regarding this ... how do you swim / etc now? I was trying this morning and every time I tried to do one of the right-stick moves with my lineman, my defense would suddenly committ to something. It cost me touchdowns really quickly.

-to change the direction of a running play without flipping the whole play, press the opposite direction on the right stick (while at the line of scrimmage).

Does anyone know how to call a quick time out without going to the menu? I just lost a game because of a second wasted.

How the F do you mask your plays 1 on 1?

How the F do you mask your plays 1 on 1?

Y= fake play call
X = real play call
A = exit play call screen

The play called will be the last one that you chose "X" for.

And I assume that if you hit A without ever having hit X, it just selects the play that you're on?

I just hold A on my way into the endzone. He does some little dance while running.

I couldn't seem to get this to work. Do you have to press something before it or something?

Say you have an off tackle right. Defense is cheating over to the right hardcore. You hit left on the right stick while set up at the line. A little video appears in the upper left of the qb audibling, and the formation will stay the same. When you take the hand off though, it will be an off tackle left.

it doesn't work with every running play...especially if the play is set up to go one way, and switching the direction might cause it to blow up in your face. i noticed that using florida's playbook, not all plays were able to have the direction changed.

I don't think so. As was stated in the post above, it only seems to work on plays where the back lines up directly behind the qb (I-form, ace, etc. ). I don't think it works for any formations that have two or more players lining up side by side in the backfield.

most spilt-back plays can't be changed, and some off-set I plays

X button. make sure your not hitting sprint, then as you are running press forward (in the direction you are running) on the left thumb stick, and X. took a little practice in the option dash to figure it out

You also, in general, have to have a little space between the QB and any opponents.

Damn. I was playing today, and somehow I switched something that let me switch players from left to right and vice versa, not one way with the d-pad. I tried to figure out how I did it the rest of the game but couldn't.

so is there no audibling out of any formation like on current gen, without changing formations. EX. right stick up (short pass), left (deep pass), right (play action), down (run).

I assume not since that doesn't work, I just got my 360 back and have both versions.... that may actually be the feature that leads me to play on current gen more than next gen.
