So, I have been playing MM for around a Month or so and from hearing all of this greatness about CH2k6, I had to buy it.

Is it going to be hard for me to learn the controls compared to MM2006?

I hope not.

It won't be too difficult. There's one set of controls that comes close to mirroring the EA Sports basketball games' controls. The only real differences are the freestyle/shot stick changes and that there aren't separate buttons for shooting and dunking.

That's better, the different buttons for shooting anf dunking is annoying.

It wont be hard, but you'l find yourself pressing buttons for awhile and getting what you wont expect.

I expect you to be floored by such a quality game at first that it takes you longer to master the controls than you'd expect.

I bought it yesterday, and played it today for the first time. So far it's waaaaay better than March Madness. It has a much more college feel to it. I haven't really gotten too deep into the Legacy or anything, but it's cool so far.

What was the rationale behind CH2k6 getting a 6? I really don't understand that. MM is pretty incomplete and easy compared to CH2k6, being that I played MM last year and have played a bit of my friends on his PS2 this year..

This just shows why I can't trust reviewer's magazines anymore. That is so off the base I call bullshit on it. I think the reviewer wants an arcadey bullshitish ncaa football 06 game for hoops. But no with CH2k6 you get a game, even with it's flaws, that has the fun factor of ncaa football 2004.

I'd punch him in the face if I saw the dude that wrote that article.

Geez....don't kill the messenger..[oops]

Seriously though I thought it was strange as well.

As for the rationale, Hilbs, I don't know to be honest. At the end of the magazine, they list what they have rated and those were the ratings for both games.

Magazines like that also have an agenda to worry about as well. Given how huge Electronic Arts is in the video game industry, a magazine can get itself into a lot deeper trouble if they give a bad review of an EA game when instead they can avoid that by simply giving it a solid review.

Because guys want to be one of the very few that get all of the behind-the-scenes previews and advance copies of the games. Plus, they like having that sense of power over the readers in knowing they can push them in any given direction depending on what they say in the reviews. I'm not saying that all game reviewers would be this biased, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were true in a few cases (such as this one).

I played EA Sports Basketball games (Live, March Madness) from 95-2002 (first MM was '98) and when I jumped to Sega (2Ksports) for NBA 2K2, I found Controller Setup "Alternate B" to be the best transition for me :D Try it out.

Haha.

But the thing about the reviewers, I think that they may truly like MM better. I have a friend that swears March Madness is the best basketball game on the market. And he says it's because the moves are more realistic on the crossovers and more fluid. I think MM is garbage though, waste of $30.

Even with sliders, it's pretty tough to get MM to play realistically. It def. is not worth $30. I'm guessing they put in a total of 30 hours of work (if that) into MM 05 to come up with MM 06. Sadly, I found NBA Live 2004 and 2005 much more realistic than MM. (Never played NBA Live 06.)

Unless they completely revamp the game next year (or actually put in some work), EA is giving plenty of evidence to those who believe they make games strictly for the casual gamer and not fans of realistic games. MM is designed for cheesers and players who want a dunkfest/3-point shootout in every game.

For some reason, I just couldn't get into CH2K5 that much, but you guys have me very tempted to pick up 2K6 if it has a price-drop soon.

I have friends who swear by it too, and that doesn't bother me. They just like having that arcade feel to it, whereas I'd rather have more of a realistic simulation game.

LOL! It is! I even looked on eBay and half.com, but didn't pull the trigger. I put in a dirt-cheap bid one time, but I knew it wouldnt hold up...I would have landed the game for $10 or something. [laugh]

I think my problem is that I want a basketball game to be a mix of arcade and simulation (leaning towards the sim side though). MM is 110% arcade unless someone spends hours with sliders....even then, there's only so much a guy can do.

Looking back at old versions of NBA Live, they used to have an option for the game: "Arcade" or "Simulation" - I'm not sure why EA doesn't do that with MM. I understand why some people prefer to be great at a game immediately, but there's also a significant number of gamers who want realism. You'd think EA could at least try to cater to both. Of course, which setting would they use for online play? It'd be nice to be able to play games as either "Arcade" or "Simulation".

Anyone know how CH2K6 plays online? MM is bad, but online it is downright horrendous. Just like NCAA FB, playing online exposes every last error/glitch/problem in the game. Is 2K6 just as fun online as off?

I'm just glad EA hasn't purchased exclusive rights to college basketball. That would spell the end of quality basketball games.

Well I do know 2k has the play mode as "arcade" or "simulation" so you can have your cake and eat it too.

As for online, i dont have xbl so I have no clue.

For the most part it plays ok online, the few times it will lag are VERY frustrating because your timing is way off.

The bigger problem is finding people to play. Either no one is on or they are total jackasses who only play with Duke or Uconn.

Yeah, go to Rosters, and on the initial roster screen, press x (this is for ps2). From there you'll get a set of options, the first of which is "Edit Player." You can switch names under "Edit Player."
