Any thoughts on who's sliders work the best for a rookie playing his first b-ball game since NBA Live 2000?

EA aggies has some good sliders in the strategies section. I'd use his version 1 sliders starting out while you get used to the game.

I second this. I'm using EA Aggies first set of sliders and have had some great games in my UNLV Legacy.
Great to see you come to the dark side, WH. I guarantee (at least for a while) you won't want to come back....;)

Any offensive and defensive sets suggestions as well?

I use EAAggies v 2.1 sliders. I have my crash boards all the way up, and my fast break all the way down. I use a motion offense and I play man to man as my primary defense. I fullcourt trap all game and 1-1-3 is my pressure defense.
I recommend turning on Auto Playcalling w/msg for both offense and defense, as I find it lets me worry more about running the offense rather than calling it, and if the situation calls for a different play, you can still manually change it.

So you know your plays very well? I actually had a motion offense set, but I don't know too much about running it. I can't figure out how to change my set plays and it is killing me. Are you a fast break kinda guy? I have 2 decent guards, but the rest aren't as strong.

In the playbook screen, hit A (on xbox, the bottom button of the four main ones if you have ps2) and you can reset them on offense and defense. You can preset 8 offensive plays and 4 defensive plays. Ya I know my plays well, you get to after some repitition.

Thanks. Do you think I chose a good team for me to start with considering I haven't played a basketball game in 6 years? Which of the beginning teams do you suggest? I think I will start over because I accidentally hit the button while saving and corrupted the file.

I'd recommend Columbia (this is who I started with).
They feature 2 guys that can finish inside, and 3 guys that can shoot the lights out (including the starting PF, which provides a lot more flexibility on offense). They're in a pretty easy conference (Ivy League), and you're in a great area to recruit (New York).

I really didn't think High Point would work out considering it is in NC. What kind of offense do you think is the easiest to pick up and execute?

The only one that I have really tried is Motion, so I can't give you an accurate description of how the rest of the systems play out in the game. I like the zone offenses in the Motion playbook a lot, and since the majority of the teams in the game play zone, that's a pretty valuable thing to have. As for against man-to-man, the cpu will call out plays for me involving a lot of single and double screens for the wings to pop out for a possible open 3. However, I like to run a lot of quick pick-and-rolls and quick post ups as well.

J, I like to use the Motion offense with a high-Temp offensive slider in the 'Coach Strategy'. Ive found this seems to get the most movement in a half-court set without having to memorize each play.
On Defense I love using the 1-3-1. Puts a man on the point, plus one on each wing to stop the 3. Vunerable inside though.
Perfect your shooting, and making good solid passes. Very easy to have a 20 turnover game if youdont pay attention.

I learned that the hard way. I have to ask though. If you redshirt a player can he still play in the preseason game without losing eligibility? Also any recruiting strategies out there? I'm trying to build up Kennesaw State.

Yes. You can do redshirts after the pre-season game too. The second Sunday is the roster deadline (Redshirts and Cuts).
As far as recruiting.. Staying local will save you points. One thing I sometimes do is during the Off-Season recruiting..Keep an eye after a week or two at 3*-4* guys who dont have offers, and dont have very high interest bars in other teams. You can steal them.

Don't worry honey, I'll take you out to dinner and buy you somethin' nice ;) .
Anyway, WhoUTestin, like Mr. T told me when I first started my legacy, make sure you put your first coaching points all into charisma, then you have a better chance at getting some of the better 2* and even 3* recruits.

Any thoughts on when you should offer schollies?
J Hall
04-05-2006, 08:11 AM
Don't offer scolies until you've gotten their interest way up. You don't want to be locked into a certain player when you could get someone else. I say this because if you offer, and change your mind, rescind the scolie, you lose a lot of interest on that recruit. It's better to wait until their interest is high.
Also, I like to offer to the guys I want right before the early signing period, hoping to catch a couple early, reducing the work I have to do for that season. The way I've done it the last couple years, I sign all the players I need in the early signing week, then I can focus on scouting and finding the players I want next year. Stay ahead of the game that way.

I use this same strategy. I've signed all but one of my recruits through 3 years so far during the early signing period. And when you're at a smaller school, this gives you a major edge. It allows you to catch up to the bigger schools when going after the younger prospects over the course of the season.

How many of you College Hoops players have it on the PS2?

it can get pretty annoying, but I've gotten over it. I enjoy the game too much for that to bother me. What bothers me the most is 7' small forwards, but other than that I love this game.

Yeah, that's an issue, but there are no real issues that are ONLY on the ps2 and not on any other system. Every gripe I can think of is universal across all of the systems.

I haven't noticed anything big. But I did scratch the disc and now I can't play at the Carrier Dome. [laugh]
