When simulating seasons for another MM thread determining how the postseason seeding worked, I noticed in future seasons that freshmen dominated the basketball landscape in season two.

Initially, I thought it was due to EA over-rating freshmen, but that doesn't appear to be the major culprit here.

I charted out one player and followed his attributes and overall rating for three seasons...to my surprise, he dropped in OVERALL (OVR) rating, despite the rest of his attributes staying the same.

The major problem seems to be some glitch in programming that lowers a players OVR rating drastically after Year One, resulting in freshmen (or JUCOs) leap-frogging them in the depth chart. The player will increase between Year Two and Three, but not to level they should be at.

Here is the chart documenting the problem:

Looking at a few recruits, another issue may have arisen. It seems that there the top six recruits are all given the same rating (82). Perhaps in the world of EA basketball, there is no such thing as a recruiting flop? Also, it seems as if there are way too many six- and five-star recruits. I did not do an exact count, but in-season recruiting (for one season at least) had 70+ six-star recruits and well over 100 five-star recruits. I haven't tried recruiting with a major power, but I'm guessing it is WAY too easy to keep teams like Duke and UNC stocked with talent. Also, perhaps this is why you cannot export players from MM to NBA Live...they will end up flooding the league with players all rated the same, eliminating the need to trade players and to 'rebuild' teams.

I may be well-suited to examine more recruits to see if a certain "star-rating" translates 100% to a particular OVR rating.
