View Full Version : How do people like this game?

There is zero intelligent off ball movement.
I have had several instances where a gaurd dribble penetrates into the lane, a big man steps up to meet him, and NOBODY cuts to the rim. Instead, my post player stands outside the lane, often times with his back to the basket.
Or I throw it down into the post. The defense collapses, and instead of either cutting to the rim or spotting up for a 3, my wing stands in place about 4 feet inside the 3 point line, so that if I pass to him, the defense can easily rotate and contest the shot.
There is absolutely no fluidity to the gameplay at all.

I really liked 2k5 better. I liked the ISOmotion stick was a whole lot better than the shot stick because trying to do a crossover in this game is retarded.

I agree. I can't ever get my guys to execute the moves that I want them to.

I can do crossovers with ease on ch2k6. I really never liked the iso motion stick on 2k5. I guess it's just different playstyles.

I don't know Rhombic, I'm just not having the same problems you are. I can do crossovers easily, much easier then last year for me. As for you problem with people in the wrong area, try icon lead passing. Works for me.

The shot stick is useless to me, besides free throws. I loved the ISOmotion last year. It felt so right! :D

Yea....it bugs me that I can't do the smooth behind the back dribble while running like my online counterparts, unless it's on accident. [down]
All I can do is the crossover to try to penetrate. I hope they bring back the ISOmotion next year.

I enjoy the game and love the shot stick. I don't have a problem executing moves at all. The moves just take practice.
I do agree about the AI on this game. Offensively, the players are stupid.

I havnt played 2k6, but i thought 2k5 was horrible. I felt the dribbling and iso-motion stick were not very fluid at all. Also, it seemed that it frequently and randomly caused you to pick up a charge, even really far from the basket. You couldn't really drive and dish as a point guard. I think the dribbling in the MM games i have played to be way better (although those games have their own problems)
Also, the play calling / execution was nowhere near as good as MM05 (which once again, had plenty of it's own problems).
Another thing that annoyed me was that it seemed virtually impossible to intercept a pass. No matter how perfectly i anticipated the pass, all i could do was deflect it, and at least half the time it bounced back to the other team. And playing a multi-tap dynasty with 6 human players, i dont think we ever prevented the computer from executing an alley oop when it decided to throw one. Sometimes they would actually finish the oop by dunking THROUGH our center.
Finally, it was very hard to make small movements. Off the ball on offense i found it very hard to set up just outside the 3 point line for an inside outside 3.

I'll see how I like this game in a little bit. Just bought it at a local Blockbuster.

I hope you enjoy it. I personally love the selection sunday show. They did a damn good job on it for the first time they tried it.

This is what I was talking about in terms of nobody having any intelligence for what to do without the ball.

Icon lead passing will solve ALL (I repeat, ALL) of that. I completely understand why you would be so frustrated Rhombic. I would be going nuts too if I didn't know how to Icon Lead pass. I'd say I use the Icon Lead passing for about 95-98% of all of my passes. I use it to lead my big man to the bucket when he's rolling off a pick-and-roll. I use it to get my PG into the right spot to receive the outlet pass. I use it against zones to have my shooters fade out to the corners for open treys. I even use it to get a guy from clogging the lane by leading him out to the 3 point arc and away from my big man that's posting up.
Here's what you do:
Push the button that brings up the passing icons of each player's head. Then, when you're making your pass, PRESS THE LEFT ANALOG STICK IN THE DIRECTION THAT YOU WANT TO HAVE THE RECIPIENT OF THE PASS CUT TOWARDS at the same time as you press the icon that passes it to that guy. It's works in EXACTLY the same way as it does when you're leading a pass to a wide receiver in NCAA or Madden. Good luck. I think this will make the game a lot more enjoyable for you than before.

I'll give it a try.
I still think it's stupid that it doesn't work automatically, with the players making intelligent cuts without the ball.
I really don't like the dribble moves. I read on OS where somebody was complaining that it feels like playing Mortal Kombat to try and pull off a crossover. I agree with that. There are just too many button combinations to try and remember. The ISO moves were intuitive, and didn't take that long to learn.
There are just too many buttons that you have to press in order for the game to play with any fluidity. Let's say I want to penetrate. I have to hit a series of buttons and analog directions to pull off a move, and then I have to do the ICON LEAD PASSING if I want my big man to cut to the rim, or my wing to spot up for a 3.
If there's one thing that I like about NCAA 2006, it's that the players attempt to do what I tell them to do most of the time (the only exception being with regard to jump animations, which can be hit or miss).

I understand your gripes about the players just not moving on their own, and it is especially tough to make any dribble moves in the halfcourt. I usually resort to shot fakes, simple crossovers, and spinning jump stops to get separation on a drive.
As for there being too many buttons to push in too short a time, I think you'll find it gets progressively easier the more you practice it. It's gotten extremely simple for me to pull off by now, especially when you can essentially press R2, player icon, and the left analog stick (at least that's what it is for me) all at the same time. Just try it out and it should at least make your experience somewhat better.

try placing auto mgs on and let the cpu call your plays, this will have your players moving around
