Browns vs. Colts - Week 1

Edgerrin James missed the game with a Torn Quadricep.

The Browns hosted the Colts today in the season opener for both teams, the home opener for Cleveland. The game did not start good for Cleveland, giving up a 35 yard kick return, then on the Colts very first play from scrimmage Rhodes took it to the house on a 66 yard TD run to put the Colts up 7 zip.

"Horrible, I dont know what to say" - Butch Davis about the first play of the game.

Later in the quarter Indy added a FG by the drunken Vanderjagt and a TD pass from Manning to Stokley to make it 17 - 0 at the half.

http://tolsun.oulu.fi/kbs/beer/jpg/88.jpg

The second half started off with a bang, when Andre Davis too the kickoff 94 yards for the TD. Could this spark another Clevleand comeback? They sure did try, William Green looked like he was on a mission in the second half, scoring on a 6 yard run and later on an 8 yard run, set up by a Earl Little INT return to the Colts 25 yard line. But Green wasnt enough, late in the fourth Manning hit Wayne for yet another big play, a 79 yard TD pass to put Indy up by 3 with a minute to go.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1586.f.jpg

The Browns would not give up, the passed their way down to Indys 30 with 45 seconds and 1 timeout left. They came to the line in a shotgun 4 wide set, Couch audibled Davis to a fly route. Davis goes, he has 3 steps on Doss he is wide open!!! SACK. The 8th of the game for the Colts, puts the browns at the 35. The Browns call a time out, shotgun 4 wide combacks is the next play, again Davis is wide, and a completed pass would put the Browns into a for sure FG range, but Couch is hit as he throws, incomplete, 4th and 25 at the 35. Here comes Dawson to try a 52 yard FG to tie the game. The kick goes up, its online, OFF THE BOTTOM CROSSBAR NO GOOD  , and the Browns go on to lose 24 - 21.

"I still dont know what to say, 8 sacks. That will hurt any team. I have to prais the team for sticking in there, but the O Line has to block better. Yes Tim held the ball too long for a couple of them, but overall he did fine getting rid of the ball. Green was also lucky to only lose 2 or 3 yards on some of his runs. He did add two fabulous TD runs. The Defense did good versus the run except for the first play, actually Rhodes ended up with less total yards then he got on his first run. But it didnt matter, we couldnt stop the pass."

Key Stats
Browns:
Green - 23 rush for 83 yards, 2TD
Morgan - 6 catch for 112 yards
Little - 5 tackles, 1 for loss, 1 int

Colts:
Manning - 23 of 38 for 354 yards and 2TD, 1INT
Wayne - 7 catch for 160 yards, 1TD
Freeney 6 tackles, 4 sacks.

Browns (0-1) @ Ravens (0-1) - Week 2

Injuries
Jamal Lewis missed the game with a Sprained Knee.

The Browns traveled to Baltimore today to take on their rivals for the AFC North opener. The game did not start good for Cleveland, again, giving up a 34 yard TD pass from Boller to Robinson, and later in the first another TD pass this time Boller hit Taylor for 19 yards. Clevleland could only counter with a 26 yard FG by Dawson, his first successfull attmept of the season.

But it was de ja vu all over again as the Browns dominated the second quarter. Couch started it off with a 6 yard TD pass to Andre Davis, but that was just the beginning. The Cleveland D held Baltimore to a 3 and out, forcing them to punt. Northcutt received the punt, only to juke Baltimore defenders out of their shoes as he took it 46 yards to the house.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1135.f.jpg

The Ravens wouldnt go scorless though, as Boller threw his third TD pass of the game, this time a 51 yard heeve to Sanders for the score. But the Browns werent done, as they drove down the field passing the ball, with seemingly nowhere to run, until William Green took the ball 7 yards into the endzone for his first TD of the game. With the half comming to a close Baltimore was forced to punt yet again, it was a great punt, as the Ravens didnt even seem to try as the ball bounced at the ten yard line, barely a foot away from the sideline, but the forgot that Northcutt doesnt give up, he picked up the ball off one bounce and took it untouched 88 yards for his second PR TD of the day. Making the score 31 to 28 at the half in favor of the Browns.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1136.f.jpg

Tradeing quarters, the Ravens took the third benefiting from 2 Tim Couch interceptions. Boller threw two more TD's one to Robinson for 44 yards and another to Sanders for 14 yards. Stover also added a 37 yard FG.

Again Cleveland needed to make a comback, but Boller seemed to end that dream with another TD pass, this time to Taylor for 38 yards. Another Big play. Couch did battle, throwing another TD pass to Davis, a 7 yard quick out with 4:05 left in the game. The Browns forced Baltimore to punt, but they declined to kick it anywhere that Northcutt could return it, the punt went 30 yard straight up, forceing the fair catch. Couch and co couldnt move the ball anywhere and Butch Davis opted to try a 52 yard FG with 2:31 left in the game. Dawson booted the ball as hard as he could, but again he hit the bottom crossbar, but this time it WENT THROUGH!! 45 - 41 Ravens with 2:30 left. With all their time outs left the Browns kicked it away. Immediately after the two minute warning it was 3rd and 7 for the Ravens at their 31 yard line. Anthony Henry came in on a corner blitz and had the RB in his sites, he dove and hit him head on, but couldnt convert the tackle, giving the Ravens a first down, and the victory.

"Our secondary was obviously our week spot. Special teams was good, our running game went nowhere because our O-Line couldnt block. Tim couch showed up why we named Kelly our starter today. The front 4 did great against the run."

-Butch Davis

Key Stats
Browns:
Couch - 18 for 43, 2TD and 5 INT
Davis - 4 catch for 35 yards and 2TD
Defense - 6FF, 4 FR, 1INT, 2 sacks, 9 Tak for Loss

Browns Get:
CB Nate Clements

Bills Get:
WR Kevin Johnson
RB Jamel White
3rd Round Draft Pick

Browns sign QB Nate Hybl to a 3 year deal.
Browns release QB Josh Booty

Butch Davis on the trade and signing:

"The trade will obviously help out ailing pass defense, but hurt our pass offense. Although I dont think it will hurt us that bad with our depth at the WR position. Nate Hybl is younger and we think better than Josh, he will develope behind Tim or Kelly, or both for the years to come. Right now with Kelly injured he is #2 on the depth chart behind Tim. With Jamel leaving Lee Suggs moves to #2 at RB and into #1 for 3rd down running back."

Browns (0-2) @ 49ers (0-2) - Week 3

Injuries
None

The Browns traveled to San Francisco today to take on the 49ers in the battle of the defeateds. The Browns started off the game in spectacular fashin taking their first drive of the day for a TD. A 1 yard run by Green gave them a 7-0 lead which was the score at the end of one quarter.

The second quarter started the scoring parade. Rattay hit Ownens for a TD pass while Garcia was getting an injury attended to. Then Garcia came back in and hit Owens on a 90 yard TD pass curtesy of myself. (I switch players an instant too late and end up getting the corner instead of lineman, which leads to me still holding the down button, which leads to a wide open WR.) The Browns would answer right back though, as Northcutt took the kickoff 89 yards for the TD. Today was his first day at kick returns, as he has been returning punts all season. The Browns pass D wasnt all too bad, Earl little returned an INT 41 yards to the house. Chandler added a FG at the end of the half to make it 21-17 in favor of Cleveland after a turnover plagued first half.

The scorin was equal in a sloppy 3rd quarter. Hearst scored on a 1 yard TD run for San Fran, while Couch hit C.J. Jones for a 20 yard TD pass. Ending the quarter at 28 - 24.

Cleveland started the fourth driving looking to make it a two score game, only to have the drive stalled by Lee Suggs second fumble of the game. That led to another TD pass from Garcia to Owens, in which the Browns put on a spectacular tackling display, bouncing off Owens like he was a concrete pillar. (Bunch of BS). Cleveland countered with a Phil Dawson FG to tie the game at 31. After forceing the 49ers to punt Cleveland had under 1:00 to try and win the game, with only one timeout. The drive almost stalled twice going to thrid and long, but Couch hit Davis once, and Jones the second time keeping the drive alive. After a sack and an incomplete pass it was 3rd and long with 8 seconds left. In a shotgun 4 wide set couch took a high snap, threw a beautifull touch pass to Jones for a completion on the 22 yard line barely getting their last TO in with 1 second left. The Browns would rely on Dawson to make a 39 yard FG in the 15mph crosswinds to win the game. The kick went up and it was never in doubt as it split the uprights, giving Cleveland their first win of the season 34-31.

"We won, thats all i have to say, check in tomorrow at my press conference for more on the game."

-Butch Davis

Key Stats
Browns:
Couch - 26or 44 398 yards 1TD, 1INT
Davis - 8 catch for 156 yards

Browns (1-2) vs Bengals (1-2) - Week 4

Injuries
None

It was a wacky week in Cleveland, it all started with the Butch Davis press conference being cancelled because of a power outage, and it ended with the game versus the Bengals on Sunday.

Couch and the Browns again looked good on their opening drive. Couch hit Davis for a 44 yard TD pass to go up 7-0. The Bengals, behind the running of Corey Dillon, could only manage a 40 yard FG by Graham to trail by 4 after one quarter.

The special teams came to play in the second, but unfortunately for the Browns it was not involving Dennis Northcutt. On a Chris Gardocki punt, Houshmandz returned it 69 yards for the score on some of the worst punt coverage in the history of the NFL. The Browns did counter though, driving 81 yards, capping it off with a 1 yard TD run by Green. 14-10.

Cleveland and Cincinnati again traded TD's in the third quarter. Couch hit Morgan for a 53 yard TD pass. Morgan ran a combacker and put a wicked move to the inside on the CB, then juked the SS out of his shoes and took it to the house. Kitna later hit Washington on a 75 yard TD pass thanks to blow coverage by FS Earl Little. 21-17 Browns.

The Fourth looked like it was going to be scary for the Bengals. Kitna came out and took a hard hit from Warren, causing a fumble. Brown picked up the ball and was scamperring towards the endzone only to be hit by Washington and to fumble himself, but he recovered his own fumble at the Bengals 20. Giving Cleveland a chance to take a commanding lead. It didnt happen, a short run, sack, and incomplete pass later it was FG time for Dawson. He missed from 47 yards, wide right. The Bengals took advantage, and ended up scoring on a 17 yard TD run by Dillon who turned into the infamous concrete wall. But down by 3, Cleveland would not panic. Behind Couches throwing, the Browns drove to the Bengals 33. Unable to convert on 4th and long Dawson again was put in to attempt the FG. Maybe they should only have him kick in clutch situations, because Dawson, "Mr. Clutch, or else I miss" nailed the 50 yard FG dead center to tie the game and even send it into OT. 24-24.

Cleveland won the toss, and DEFERED!!!! No, they took the ball, and wisely. First and ten at their own 24. A pitch to the right to Green innocently turns into a reverse to Morgan!!! A great block by Northcutt lets Morgan take it all the way to the Bengals 11. A run by Green set up the Dawson kick from the middle of the field. In came Mr. Clutch, through the goalposts the ball went. Browns win, 27-24.

Key Stats
Browns:
Couch - 15 for 33 277 yards 2TD, 1INT
Davis - 6 catch for 102 yards, 1TD
Morgan - 5 catch for 108 yards, 1TD

Bengals:
Kitna - 8 of 13 for 129 yards and 1TD, 2INT

Browns (2-2) @ Steelers (3-1) - Week 5

Injuries
None

Cleveland traveled to rivals Pittsburgh for a Sunday night showdown on ESPN, a win for the Browns would tie them with the Steelers for first in the AFC North.

The Browns dominated the first half with TD runs by Green (2, 2) and Suggs (5). Pittsburgh could only counter with a TD pass from Maddux to Burress of 23 yards. 21-7 at the half.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1647.f.jpg

The Browns took the ball first in the second half looking to score and take a commanding lead in the game. But Green fumbled on the first play of scrimmage giving Pittsburgh the ball and a chance to be right back in it. They did just that on the very first play Maddux hit Ward for a TD pass of 31 yards. Later in the quarter of a Couch INT Zereoue ran the ball 1 yard for a TD to tie the game.

Pittsburgh didnt stop there. Maddux this time hit Randle El for a TD. A 30 yard screen play that showcased pee wee league style tackling by the Browns. Finding themselves down by seven Cleveland needed to score to tie the game. The Browns executed a perfect drive taking up four minutes and resulting in a 11 yard TD pass from Couch to Davis.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1644.f.jpg

Pittsburgh got the ball back with 2:30 to play in the game, a score wins it. A run play goes nowhere, On the next play Maddux drops back to throw, looks for Ward only to be intercepted by Clements who took it 20 yards for the Touchdown, to put Cleveland up 7 with under a minute to go!!! Pittsburgh and Tommy Gun would not panic, driving the field 75 yards in 54 seconds with a TD pass from Maddux to Ward to tie the game. Just about 1 min left in the game. Couch and the Browns have no worries knowing that they have Mr. Clutch waiting to win the game on the sidelines. But he would not get that chance, as Couch drives the field in 19 seconds and hit CJ Jones with a 35 yard TD pass to take the lead again. But the Browns AGAIN could not hold, as Tommy hit Randle El with a 76 yard TD pass to send the game into overtime.

The Browns won the toss and elected to receive. And the seemed to not be denied. They knew that Mr. Clutch was waiting. From the 20 yard line the Browns set up for the Field Goal. Dawson nailed it, a 37 yarder giving the Browns a victory and a tie for first in the AFC North.

Key Stats
Browns:
Couch - 26 of 46 for 416 yards 2TD, 2INT
Northcutt - 9 catch for 109 yards

Browns (3-2) vs Raiders (4-1) - Week 6 GAME OF THE WEEK

Injuries
None

New Brown Rex Grossman made his first career start today, also CB Anthony Henry stepped into the #2 slot on the depth chart, starting his first game of the season and moving Daylon McCutcheon to #3 on the charts.

The Browns fans would get to see the defense first as they held Oakland to a 3 and out forcing the punt. Grossman went 3 of 4 for 24 yards on his first drive which was highlighted by a 36 yard run by Green setting up a 35 FG by Dawson to take a 3-0 lead. But the Raiders would counter, Gannon hit Porter for a 12 yard TD pass. The quarter ended 7-3 Oakland.

The 2nd quarter was all Cleveland. Grossman led the Browns to two scoring drives. First a 11 yard TD run by Green, his first of 3 TD's on the day. The second also resulted in a TD run by Green, a 9 yard scamper plowing through both Woodsons on the way to the endzone. The phyced Browns D held the potent Raider offense scorless thanks to a Anthony Henry INT deep in Browns territory.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1434.f.jpg
CB Anthony Henry seconds before his first INT

The third was more of the same for Cleveland. Grossman drives them down the field, Green runs it into the endzone. This time a 4 yard scamper, straight thrugh the endzone into the Dawg Pound.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1443.f.jpg
William Green celebrates his TD in the Dawg Pound

But Oakland wouldnt go down easy. Gannon hit Brown on a 43 yard TD pass, their only big play of the game. To make the score 24-14 Cleveland after three.

As most of the Browns 4th quarters are, this one was. Scary, action-packed, intense. Oakland drove down field converting on 2 key third and longs to keep the drive going. But it would stall and they settled for a FG by Janikowski to cut their defecit to 7. Cleveland managed a drive to midfield, ending with 1:47 left in the game. Theri was no return on the punt, it went out of bounds at the Oakland 31. With all three time outs left the Raiders went out to try and tie the game to send it into OT. It was deja vu as they drove down the field with no problems at all. Using two time outs. But on first and 10 from Cleveland's 25 Gannon threw his thrid pick of the day, again to Henry. The Browns got a first down as Oakland used their last time out, enabling Cleveland to run out the clock and take the victory 24-17.

Key Stats

Browns (4-2) vs Chargers (3-2) - Week 7

Injuries
Browns:
Kelly Holcumb update - Dislocated ankle, 2 weeks

Chargers:
LaDainin Tomlinson - Sparined Ankle, probable

The Browns looked to get another win today as they went in tied with Baltimore for the AFC North lead at 4-2. Tomlinson did play, and that looked to be a bad thing early. On San Diego's 3rd play from scrimmage Tomlinson fumbled to give the Browns the ball on the Chargers 30. But the offense couldnt convert the turnover into a TD and had to settle for a FG by Dawson. Both defenses held tough for the first quarter, and it ended 3-0 Browns.

Both teams started to get things going offensively in the second. LT scored on a 18 yard TD run to make it 7-3 Chargers. Cleveland countered with a long scoring drive of their own. Green ran it in on a 1 yard TD run after Grossman hit Northcutt on a 30 yard pass down the sidelines.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1671.f.jpg
Green runs for the score

The Browns D was determined to hold the lead, and Henry made an interception in his second game in a row, but this time he returned it 30 yards for the TD to put the Browns up 17-7. Brees and co came back though, they drove to end the half with another TD of their own. Brees hit Tomlinson on a 2 yard TD pass to end the half and make the score 17-14 Cleveland.

There was no scoring in the third quarter.

The Browns looked to put the game away in the fourth. They started with a promising drive that ended with another Phil Dawson FG. Putting the game on the shoulders of the defense. They would not hold though. Brees threw his 2nd TD pass of the game, this time to Dwight for 25 yard to put the Chargers up 1 with 2:50 to play. Cleveland went 3 downs with no yards and decided to punt with 2:25 left in the game. San Diego got a first down but the Browns held them after that. On the punt Northcutt caught it in the endzone and TOOK IT OUT!!!! only to get tackled at his own 5 yard line. /evil. Grossman completed a quick pass to Jones that got cleveland to their 46. Another play took them to San Diegos 47, but still out of field goal range. With 8 seconds left they had time for 1 maybe 2 plays. A hail mary to Morgan was failed, but one second remained. Morgan and Jones wide right, Northcutt and Davis wide left. A heave up to the right, tipped by the D, TIPPED BY MORGAN, but it fell to the grass in the endzone, ending the game with a loss for Cleveland. 21-20.

Key Stats

Most pro athletes smoke pot. Cocaine too. Its just the stupid ones who decide to go drunk driving with it on them and get caught that you know about. And thats not to say that they are junkies either, like that guy in Playmakers smoking crack in the locker room at halftime. Not at all. But most pro athletes use drugs recreationally here and there and some, Im sure, are weedheads and coke addicts. They just are smart about it and keep it to themselves and dont do stupid things to get caught. Hell, I work in the finance industry and I know CEOs and other Execs who do it too when the time is right. Thats society today. People need to relieve their stress and many turn to drugs. A little toke before bed never hurt anybody. Drugs themselves are not the problem, its the people who dont know how to use them who are the problem. There really is a difference between a drug user and a drug abuser.

Browns (4-3) @ Patriots (1-6) - Week 8

Injuries
Browns:
Kelly Holcumb update - Dislocated ankle

Patriots:
None

With a win today the Browns would be two games over .500 going into the bye week and in great shape to make a run at the AFC North title. But the Patriots were looking for just their second win of the season.

The Browns came in wanting to run the ball with Green, and run the ball they did. After telling Green that he gets one 40oz for every 40 yards they could see a renouned gleem in his eyes. After a couple plays Green took the ball 46 yards for a TD. One 40oz. On the Browns very next drive he took it 94 yards on the first play from scrimmage for a TD and another 40oz. The quarter also ended 14-0 Browns.

http://www.40ozmaltliquor.com/colt45sign02.jpg

The second quarter also went well for Cleveland. Grossman hit Davis for a 16 yard TD pass, and Dawson converted a 42 yard FG. Amazingly he made it and it wasnt even to win a game. Game ball to him. In the mix of all this scoring for Cleveland, the Patriots and Wolverines own Tom Brady hit Branch for a 61 yard TD pass, to make the score 24-7 at the half.

The second half was not kind to Cleveland, its hard when the comp cheats so much, but we deal. Brady hit Brown with a 48 yard TD pass, and later in the 3rd he hit Johnson with a 30 yard TD throw. Sandwiched in between the two TD passes was another Green touchdown run. A 78 yard variety, and at least 1 40oz. Most likely another, we will see later.

The comp went into super cheat mode in the 4th, you know when your QB is in shotgun and he gets tackled before he even catches the ball. /evil What the F*CK is that bullshit. Anyways, Brady again hit Branch for a TD, and Vinatieri made a FG to tie the game and send it into OT. Unfortunatley for Cleveland, Brady got what should have been a sack and fumble, but it was called incomplete, too bad Brady wasnt even in the throwing motion. Game should have been over. 31-29 Browns. But no. So we go to OT. Again.

In OT Cleveland gets the ball first. They take it to midfield and face a 3rd and 5. [Bullshit ensues]. Morgan drops a pass, Browns punt. /evil So the Browns punt and NE takes over. Brady and co drive down to Clevelands 20 and set up the FG. Vinatiereieieaiierari makes it. Game, Set, Match. [/Bullshit ends]

So lets do the math:
40 yards = 1 40oz for Green
323 yards for Green, 323/40 = 8.075
So William Green gets to take home 8 40oz's after todays performance. And for getting 323 yards and the new NFL single game rushing record we will throw in a bag of weed.

Key Stats
Browns:
Grossman - 13 of 18 for 195 yards 1TD, 1INT
Green - 24 rushes for 323 yards 3TD
Davis - 6 catch for 116 yards, 1TD
Clements - 6 tackles, 2 pass deflect

Patriots:
Cheaters dont get stats. /glare

Team Report Card[U]
Quarterbacks:
With Kelly Holcumb getting hurt Tim Couch had to step up and show Butch that he should have been the starter from the get go. He did not do that, which led to his trade for Rex Grossman. Josh Booty was later released and Nate Hybl was signed. Grossman has been doing OK, putting Cleveland in a position to win. It is unknown if he will start the rest of the season, as Holcumb has come off the injured list and is ready to play.

Grade: C

Runningbacks:
William Green has been very good this year. His 14 touchdowns leads the NFL. But while he has lots of yards they come sparadically, the Browns would like to see him become more consistent in his play. With Jamel White being traded away Lee Suggs has done well in the backup slot. But dont be surprised if you see James Jackson getting some carries soon.

Grade: B+

Receivers:
The receivers have been doing great this year but have dropped too many passes. C.J. Jones has caught the coaches eyes in the 4th slot, with two huge games on his resume. Andre Davis has pleased the coaches as well, umong the NFL leaders in receptions and yards they will look for him to continue his Pro Bowl type year. Dennis Northcutt has done well as WR and Kick Returner. Quincy Morgan has also done well, no complaints.

Grade: A-

Tight Ends:
Aaron Shea has done well, but is dropping way too man passes for the amount he is thrown to. Heiden is ok but looks like a fag.

Grade: C

Offensive Line:
The o-line is giving up way too many sacks. They are inconsistent with their run blocking and fail to open up holes for Green. If Grossman is the QB of the future then they better start protecting him. Jeff Faine is doing a good job filling in for Verba, but Faine would have started anyways while Verba was moved. His absence hurts.

Grade: C

Defensive Line:
Their stats arent good, but then again neither are the RB's that play against them. They shut down the run about as easily as any d-line in the NFL. They do need to put more pressure on the QB's though, which should result in some more sacks.

Grade: B+

Linbackers:
They are young, but getting better each game. Their tackling needs to improve dramatically if the Defense wants to be tops in the league. They do a pretty good job on blitzes. Their pass coverage is about average thogh.

Grade: C

Defensive Backs:
Clements, Henry and McCutcheon are doing a great job. Henry gets props for matching McCutcheons stats in only 3 games. Griffith and Little are doing good at coverage, but all DB's need to tackle better, which is why the Browns are 4-4 instead of 6-2.

Grade: C+

Special Teams:
For all the grief i give Dawson he is doing good. Great in the clutch. Gardocki needs to get his average up some, 35 isnt good enough. He is doing a good job of kicking it out inside the 20 though. Northcutt is doing great on all returns, 3 TD's if very good. Bodden has taken over kickoff duty for Davis to let Andre concentrate on receiving, and has done good in his limited action. Punt coverage is good, but can always get better.

Grade: A

The Browns are 2-0 after the bye week. Defeating the Chiefs by a score of 27-20, and the Cardinals by a score of 34-7.

Rex Grossman got hurt on the first drive of the game vs the Chiefs, forcing Kelly Holcumb into action. Grossman is out for 7 weeks with a dislocated elbow.

The rushing game was the key to both wins. Green ran for 236 yards and 3 TD's in both games and Lee Suggs ran for 64 versus the Chiefs and 142 versus the Cardinals, inculding a TD in each game.

Next up for Cleveland is at home versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Browns (6-4) vs Steelers (5-5) - Week 12

Injuries
Browns:
Rex Grossman out with a dislocated elbow.

Steelers:
None

The Browns looked to make it 2-0 verse the Steelers this year and move one step closer to a playoff birth.

The first quarter started off good for the Browns, Holcom engineered an 80yard drive, capping it off with a TD pass to Quincy Morgan. The defense held tight and kept Pittsburgh to a FG. 10-3

The second quarter was more of the same, the two teams exchanged FG's to make it 13-3. But the quarter was capped off with a 99 yard kickoff return by Leigh Bodden, his first career touchdown. 20-6 Browns at the half.

The second half was a lull. Dawsom made two more FG's, 28 and 37 yards, while Reed added another of 27 yards. Making the final score 36-9 Cleveland.

Game Notes: Gerrard Warren is out for the season (11 weeks) with a broken hand. The only way he could play is if the Browns make it to the Super Bowl, but that is unlikely, and it is unlikley that Warren would be able to play anyways.

Key Stats
Browns:
Holcomb - 13 of 28 for 208 yards 1TD
Green - 22 rushes for 90 yards

Roster Update:
With Gerard Warren out for the season the Browns signed DT Sean Gilbert (ovr 74) to a 1 year contract for $1.5m and a $100K signing bonus.

Game News
The Browns took on the Rams on Monday Night and the Broncos. Splitting the pair.

Rams - W 33-28
Broncos - L 17-34

Kelly Holcomb looked like the starter Cleveland wanted him to be by throwing for over 550 yards and 3TD's in both games. The main loss in the game to Denver was the lack of a rushing attack. Green ran 6 times for only 9 yards, and Suggs ran for 12 times and 24 yards, not much better. But while Green couldnt run, he still could catch, he led the Browns vs Denver in receiving with 8 catches for 76 yards. Northcutt contributed 3 catches for 2 TD's.

In the loss to Denver Cleveland also lost OLB Kevin Bentley for 2 weeks with a strained pectoral. Other updates Rex Grossman has 1 more week until his return, he will not start once he returns. Gerard Warren has 7 more weeks until he could play due to his broken hand.

Playoff Update:

AFC:
1. Y - Dolphins 12-2
2. Raiders 10-4
3. Y - Titans 10-4
4. Ravens 9-5

9. Steelers 7-7

AFC North
1. Ravens 9-5
2. Browns 8-6
3. Steelers 7-7
4. Bengals 4-10

The Browns are right in the thick of the playoff race. Two Browns wins with two ravens losses gives the Browns the AFC North Crown. The loss against Denver hurt worse than it seemed. As the Broncos now get the tie against Cleveland.

Browns (8-6) vs Ravens (6-5) - Week 16

Injuries
Browns:
Rex Grossman out with a dislocated elbow.

Ravens:
None

There was a playoff game atmosphere in Cleveland Stadium today as the Browns hosted the Ravens to a sell out crowd of 75,000 plus. The day was cold and rainy, 38 degrees raining cats and dogs.

The Browns won the toss, and usually defer, but this time they took the ball, wanting to send a message to the tough Ravens D. Cleveland continued their stellar rushing attack this week, Green and Suggs took the team down the field and Suggs capped off the drive with a 36 yard TD run. Boy what a draft pick he turned out to be. On the following kickoff the Ravens fumbled, and Cleveland recovered. That led to a 39 yard FG by Dawson. On the Ravens next possession they fumbled again, on only their 3rd play form scrimmage, and Cleveland recoverred again. They again took advantage when Suggs ran for 6 yards and his 2nd TD of the game. Baltimore took their next drive down to the Browns 20. Only to have Boller get picked off by Gardner, leading to another Browns TD. This time Green hit up the scoreboard with a 1 yard run to make the score 24-0 at the half.

The second quarter was one of the sloppiest quarters ever. Cleveland and Baltimore exchanged turnovers. Cleveland fumble. Baltimore INT. Cleveland INT, and then the Ravens fumbled on the INT return only to have the Browns recover. With only 1 second left in the half Cleveland took a timout, they had the ball at midfield. The came out in a Shotgun 4 wide set, and sent everyone deep. Holcomb heaved the ball deep towards Morgan, who came down with the catch!!! Touchdown Browns!!! 31-0 at half.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1133.f.jpg
Holcomb gets ready to throw to Morgan.

The second half was a test for Cleveland, would they let the Ravens come back like they have let almost every other team so far this season. Not in the third quarter. Dawson hit another FG, and Baltimore got its first points on the board when Boller hit Taylor with a 63 yard TD pass to end the quarter.

The fourth and final quarter, Cleveland absolutely dominating the Ravens. Boller is picked again and this time McCutcheon takes it 69 yard to the house.
Later in the quarter Dawson would add another FG to make the final 44-7.

"What a game, we had 8 takeaways, and tried to give them the game back with 4 giveaways, but luckily we countered a giveaway with a takeaway. Green and Suggs were awesome today, game balls to them. Also the Defense, great game, missing Warren and Bentley. I cant say enough about them."

-Butch Davis

Key Stats
Browns:
Green - 23 rushes for 108 yards, 1TD
Suggs - 12 rushes for 72 yards, 2TD
Davis - 3 tackles, 2 Fumbles Recovered

Browns (9-6) @ Bengals (4-11) - Week 16

Injuries
Browns:

Gerard Warren is out.

Bengals:
John Kitna is out
Carson Palmer is out

The Browns came into the game today looking for the win that would put them into the playoffs and a tie for the AFC Central crown, which they would win by tie-breaker. It looked to be easy with Cincy's top 2 quarterbacks out and Shane Matthews starting.

In the first quarter Cleveland and Cincy exhanged short drives ending in punts for the first couple minutes. That is when the dynamic duo of Green and Suggs started running wild with Green eventually running into the endzone to give Clevleland a 7-0 lead after 1.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1275.f.jpg
Green plows into the endzone from 1 yard out in the first.

The second quarter was more of the same for Cleveland. Green scored for the second time ona run of 3 yards. The Bengals could only counter with a FG. A 33 yarder from Graham. But on the ensuing drive Cleveland showcased its passing attack, and Holcomb hit Morgan on a 32 yard TD pass to make the score 21-3, and end the half.

The second half, where the Browns have made a habit of giving the game back. It will always be scary. Clevleland started off good though. Running the ball and taking 4:29 off the clock with Holcomb running for a TD to make it 28-3. Cincy could not get anything going, and had to punt again. And again Cleveland took time off the clock. This time 4:12, leaving only 2:44 left in the game. A FG by Dawson make the score 31-3. Shane Matthews then hit Kelly for a 35 yard TD pass, but it was too little, too late. The Browns had won, and made it to the playoffs. 31-10.

"This is a great day for the city and the team. To make the playoffs for the second straight season says something about the team and their work ethic and desire. I told them at the bye week, '6 and 2 makes the playoffs, 5 and 3 is shaky. Well they did the 6 and 2 part and did it well."

-Butch Davis

Key Stats
Browns:
Holcomb - 10 for 19, 177 yards, 1TD, 1 rushing TD
Green - 20 rushes for 71 yards, 2TD
Morgan - 5 catches for 106 yards, 1TD
Brown - 3 tackles, 1 sack

Browns vs Ravens - AFC Wildcard Game

Injuries
Browns:
Rex Grossman is Questionable.
Gerard Warren is out.

Ravens:
None

Cleveland Stadium, cold, snow, wind. Just how football was meant to be. The Browns and Ravens split the season series with the home team winning each time. The Browns would like to keep it that way.

The Ravens took the opening kickoff and went 3 and out. Cleveland could not do anything on the punt return and started with the ball at around their 40. On the firs play of the drive, Holcombs first pass of the day, he was picked off by Ray Lewis. The Ravens then proceded to drive down field, but were held to a FG. Stove made a 34 yarder to go up 3 in the first. The INT would not faze Holcomb though, on the very next drive he led the charge downfield that ended when he threw a 23 yard TD pass to Northcutt to take a 7-3 lead after 1.

The second quarter was more of the same. Lee Suggs got the ball and took it 9 yard for a TD. His first ever NFL Playoff TD. He took the ball home. Baltimore would not give up. Boller, who was plagued by bad decisions all day, made a correct one and hit Robinson for a 38 yard TD pass. The Browns got a late FG by Dawson, and the score was 17-10 at the half. Still anybodys game.

Boller showed his rookie status off in the second half. Throwing 2 ints. But only one leading to a score. A 44 yard FG by Dawson. Bollers biggest mistake by far was a fumble, he didnt secure the ball. Gilbert, Warren's replacement, recovered the fumble and took it 58 yard for the TD, essentially putting a dagger into Baltimores hopes of winning. Boller and the offense could not get anything going, and Cleveland capitalized on good field position. Holcomb hit Shea for a 2 yard TD pass. The Ravens found something though, and Boller eventually hit Sanders for a 9 yard TD pass, the 2 point conversion was good. Cleveland countered with a time consuming drive that ended with another Dawson FG. He was 3/4 on the day missing from 55 yards. Boller and co would not quit though. He hit Taylor for another TD, but with only 1:14 left to go. The Ravend didnt convert the onside kick, game basically over. But not before Holcomb hit Morgan for a TD pass, to put the nail in the coffin. 44-25.

Key Stats
Browns:
Holcomb - 18 for 29, 230 yards, 3TD, 1INT
Green - 21 rushes for 82 yards
Suggs - 5 rushes for 23 yards, 1TD
Morgan - 4 catches for 73 yards, 1TD
Northcutt - 4 catches for 48 yards, 1TD
Davis - 6 tackles, 1 int
Bentley - 4 tackles, 1 sack

Ravens:
Boller - 21 for 35 355 yards, 3TD, 2INT, 1 Fumble lost
Sanders - 7 catches for 96 yards, 1TD
Taylor - 3 catches for 130 yards
Lewis - 11 tackles, 1 sack, 1 int

Browns @ Dolphins - Divisional Playoffs

Injuries
Browns:
Rex Grossman is questionable.
Gerard Waren is out with a broken hand.

Dolphins:
Ricky Williams is questionable, dislocated ankle.

The Browns are back. Playing in the divisional playoffs for the first time since their return. Ricky Williams, a game time decision to play, will not be playing today.

Nothing, that is how the first quarter went. No scoring. Cleveland had two great chances. First they got stuffed on 4th and goal on Miami's 2 yard line. And later in the quarter Holcomb threw an int from inside Miami's 10.

The second quarter got things rolling. Cleveland started it all off with a 34 yard FG by Dawson. But on the kickoff, Rogers took it 93 yards for the TD and a 7-3 lead. Cleveland, who could not get the ground game going all day, countered with the air attack. Holcomb, from the one yard line of Miami, hit Davis for a TD. But the big plays that haunted Cleveland much of the year returned, Fiedler hit Simmons for a 47 yard TD pass to make it 14-10, which is how the half would end.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/game/images/1232.f.jpg
Andre Davis catches a TD pass.

Cleveland started the second half with a FG. Dawson hit from 27 yards to bring Cleveland whithin a point. But Minor, Ricky Williams replacement, took it 78 yards for a TD, the first time since Warren went down that they truly missed him.

The fourth quarter, Cleveland new its time was now. The drove down the field on a mission. And Green ended up with a TD run of 1 yard to make the score 21-20 in favor of Miami. The Browns D held tough, holding Miami to a FG, Browns down 4. Cleveland had the ball and was driving, 2 min left, 4th and 3 from Miami's 30. A 47 yard FG but Butch opts to go for it. Batted down incomplete pass, Miami takes over. But again the Browns D holds its ground forcing a 3 and out. So Miami punts with about 1:35 left and Cleveland gets the ball on their own 33. Cleveland is moving the ball with ease yet again, but again they hit a road block. On second and 10 from Miami's 30 Holcomb gets sacked for a 22 yard loss, putting Cleveland pass midfield. A quick pass to C.J. Jones gave Cleveland about 6 yards left on 4th down. Miami was blitzing all day and knocking Holcomb around with ease. They blitzed again, and forced Kelly to throw it up for grabs. Zack Thomas made the knockdown, ending Cleveland's season with a loss of 24-20.

hey, i would suggest this idea . i bet billick was offered a HC job by a team probably the ravens right... when i play my franchise theres no way i would sign a HC who is getting paid to be my DC what i did in my franchise with the ravens i kept billick and my DC left for Buffalo and i sign there Ex-coach Greg Williams who was offered a contract by Green bay for there DC position so i offered him a contract and landed him i let my OC and ST coach go as well and sign coaches who were offered contracts for those positions. just a suggestion might make the game more fun instead of having a coaching staff full of Head Coaches.

In a surprise move Butch Davis has name Eli Manning the starting QB over Kelly Holcomb. The hardest decision to make was easily the corner spot. Henry and McCutcheon both did great last year, and will both see a lot of the field.

"It sucks, i dont know how i lost the job, but i guess coach saw something out there that made him have to have Eli in there. I guess we will see how the season goes from here."

Kind of a suprise that you drafted Manning after you already have Rex and Kelly. I would have taken a big play DB, if there was one still availible, or a DE. Good job thus far.

Yeah i was thinking that, but Holcomb is old, 33, so you never know when he will retire. Plus he has gotten hurt every year so far, and Grossman got hurt last year too, so i dont know if that will be a perennial thing or not.

But, hopefully holcomb will stick around, but i can still get manning better, but there is this frosh qb in my ncaa dynasty, im mich, but he is a frosh, has 95 throw power and 88 accuracy, i think ill be looking to draft him in 3 or 4 years. :D

Cleveland Browns (0-0) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (0-0)

The Browns opened up the season on Monday Night for the first time ever. And to add to the excitement the game was versus the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, what a game it was.

The Browns started out the season like they did last year, running the ball. Except Green seemed to be the only one able to do so, as Suggs had his worst game ever as a Brown. Green ended up with 135 yards on 16 attempts, a surprise against the usually immovable Steeler run D.

It was the Steelers pass D that was the difference. Manning and Holcomb saw action yesterday, Holcomb went 5 of 12 for 56 yards and a TD, while Manning went 7 of 18 for 124 yards, a TD, and 2 INT.

"You cant blame Manning for either INT," Coach Davis said "Andre dropped both passes, each were right in his hands, they should have been caught. Its a tough break for Eli on the stat sheet. But he knows they werent his fault."

They may not have been, but they were the difference, with Pittsburgh scoring 10 points off of the interceptions, which was the difference in the game.

On the defensive side of the ball Cleveland did rather well, only giving up 20 points and getting 2 INTs. Griffith had 10 tackles, and Andra Davis added 8 more and tackles, and a sack. The INTs were by Barry Gardner, and guess who, Anthony Henry.

But it wasnt enough, as Pittsburgh pulled out the victory by a score of 27-21. "We obviously havent improved on some things from last season." Davis explained "Like putting pressure on the QB, you cant give a guy like Maddox that much time in the poket, he will and did tear us apart." Maddox ended up going 22 of 36 for 330 yards, a TD, and 2 INT.

Cleveland Browns (0-1) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (0-1)

Cincy comes into Cleveland Stadium at 0-1, and what is worse is that RB Corey Dillon will miss at least 2 weeks with back spasmn, and offseason pickup WR Amani Toomer will miss up to 4 weeks with a Foot Stress Fracture.

Another surprise was that QB Eli Manning would get his first ever NFL start today over Kelly Holcomb. Butch Davis issued no reason for this other than that it was a decision he felt benefitial to the team. "I dont get it," William Green stated "what did Kelly do to lose his job, I just dont get it."

Whover happens to be playing needed to win the game, plain and simple. The Browns fans got their first look of Rookie Kicke Nick Browne today, as he went 4 for 4 on FG's with a long of 38. His first two FGs gave Cleveland a 6 point lead after a quarter.

The second quarter was all anybody needed to see though. It was big play central. Palmer threw TD passes of 68, 22, and 80 yards. Also scoring for Cincy was Clemens with a 33 yard punt return. Eli would not back down though, throwing TD passes of 64 and 37 yards, he was 14 of 19 on the day, 73.7%, for 289 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. Green had another solid day rushing the ball, 2 TD runs of 20 and 29 yards, he ran the ball 20 times for 124 yards.

On the defense Anthony Henry came up big again, intercepting Carson Palmer 2 times on the day and adding 4 tackles. Linebacker Ben Taylor led the team in tackles with 9. "Playing on the nickel set lets me concentrate more on the specifics of the nickel, and i dont really have to worry about the 4-3 defense we normally run, that has really helped me read the qb and play better which is why im getting the picks." CB Anthony Henry on his recent success.

Whatver it was, the Browns pulled out a close one, winning 39 to 34. Improving to 1-1 on the season.

Cleveland Browns (1-1) vs. Miami Dolphins (2-0)

The Browns tried to put the first negetive number in Miami's record yesterday as they played their third home game in a row. Ricky Williams missed this game and will miss many more as he is out for 11 weeks with a strained back.

The game looked to be a defensive battle as no teams scored in the first and the half ended at 10-3 Miami. The differnce was a Omare FG of 47 yards, and a Chambers TD catch of 42 yards. Browne added a 23 yard FG for Cleveland.

The Browns comeback plan came to a screetching halt with two second half fumbles lost. The first enabled R. Williams's replacement Chris Fuamatu-Ma to score on a 1 yard TD run, the second was returned for a TD by Jason Taylor. Later in the quarter Fuamatu-Ma added another TD run. He ran 22 times for 94 yards and 2 TDs. But a highlight for the Browns D if any was that they helf Fiedler to 163 yards on 18 attempts. Much better then their previous outings.

The #1 offense of the Browns took its first stumble of the year. Manning went 18 of 22 for 182 yards, but no TDs, and 2 INTs, even though they were both desperation heaves at the end of the half and game. The story was the running game, or lack there of. Green rushed 14 times for only 39 yards, and Suggs added only 1 attempt for 1 yard. On defense Ben Taylor led the team with 6 tackles, and DE Kenard Lang added 2 tackles and a sack. But they failed to stop the running attack of Miami.

The game ended 31-6, the first time all year that Cleveland failed to score a TD.

Cleveland Browns (1-2) vs. New York Giants (3-1)

The Browns looked to get back to .500 yesterday versus the Giants who were without starting RB Tiki Barber due to a PCL sprain.

The game turned out to be very evenly matched, even with the Browns not playing up to expectations. The two teams traded touchdowns for the first 3 quarters. The Browns had scored by Benni Joppru from Manning, William Green on a 50 yard run, and by Andre Davis from Manning. The Giants had a TD pass from Collns to Hilliard, a 1 yard run by RB Stecker and Carter had a 97 yard kick return.

The fourth quarter was a defensive battle. Both Collins and Manning threw an INT, and Green fumbled twice but neither were lost. With 2 seconds left on the clock the Browns put the game in the hands of Rookie kicker Nick Browne, he needed to make a 30 yarder for the win. He was visually nervous, and NY took a time out to ice him. But all it did was give him time to calm himself down, he booted the ball right down the middle to give Cleveland the win 24-21.

"It was great, im just glad i could do something to help the team." Kicker Nick Browne.

"This team can go **** themselves," backup kicker Phil Dawson said, "Davis told me 'your the guy for clutch situations, browne is the guy for long FGs since he has the better leg' I guess he changed his mind without telling me"

Manning finished the day 11 of 22 for 161 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. Green had another great day rushing 21 times for 115 yards and a TD. Earl Litte led the team in tackles with 5, while McCutcheon grabbed an INT with 2 tackles.

Major Trade Announcement

The Browns are making moves, today they announced a trade with the Dallas Cowboys, and here it is:

Browns get:
HB Kevin Jones (Rookie) - 78 ovr
QB Matt Shaub (Rookie) - 73 ovr
4th Round Pick

Cowboys get:
HB Lee Suggs - 69 ovr
QB Kelly Holcomb - 82 ovr
2nd Round Pick

Browns coach Butch Davis on the trade:

This trade should help our team immensley. Kevin Jones will be able to run behind Green, and as he improves we will have a devestating ground attack, we will be able to have either RB in the game and be confident that we will be able to run the ball effectively. QB Matt Shaub brings in another Rookie to the team. We have 3 yound QB's, and at this rate we figure our chances of one of them becomming a good solid NFL QB is very good. Questions please.

So I take it by your comments that you DIDNT have a 2 part running attack with Lee Suggs who ran great at the end of the season last year? - Reporter

At the end of last year when we had Suggs in the game the other team always played for the pass, which is why Suggs was getting good numbers. And that was good obvioulsy. BUT, now teams know that, and they have been playing run D when he is in there, and his numbers have declined dramatically. We felt that he hadnt done enough in the offseason to improve, and that Kevin Jones is and will be a better Back now and in the future.

Cleveland Browns (2-2) @ Washington Redskins (4-1)

The Browns travled to Washington for their first road game of the season. On paper the game looked to be a shootout. Kevin Jones would make his Cleveland Browns debut trying to help his team crack the .500 barrier.

The antisipated shootout started out as a though defensive battle. Both teams could only muster a FG. A 40 yarder by Hall for Washington, and a career long 48 yard bomb by Browne for Cleveland. 3-3 after a quarter.

Scoring started in the second though. Hall and Browne added another FG. But Ramsey hit Jacombs for a 75 yard TD pass against the overlly aggressive Browns D. But Manning and the Browns rallied back as Eli hit Davis for a TD pass of 29 yards, and Green added a 2 point coversion try. Cleveland led 14-13 at the half.

Washington added another FG early in the third, a 42 yarder. Then the Browns running game got going, Green ran in a TD run of 1 yard, he carried 22 times for 102 yards and a TD. On the Browns next drive Jones got his first TD as a Brown, he carried the ball 7 times on the day for 89 yards and a TD. (HE IS A BEAST!!!!!). Again though Cleveland's defense could not stop the Redskins. Ramsey hit Rookie RB Cedric Benson on a 78 yard TD pass. Ramsey was 14 of 27 for a staggering 507 yards, 5 TDs and 2 INTs.

The Clevlend D finally helped out the offense, McCutcheon looked like the pro bowler he was and returned and INT 68 yards for a TD. About the only time the aggressiveness of the defense helped the team out. But in the end the Redskins proved why they were 4-1. Ramsey hit Gaylor for a TD pass of 77 yards, and again hit Jacobs for a TD, this time a 8 yarder. Browne added a FG but it proved not enough as Washington won 45-38.

"Offensively, plain and simple our O-Line needs to block much much much better than they did today. We cannot have Manning getting sacked 7 times a game. He threw no INTs today, and i was very very surprised by that. There were plenty of times that he didnt even have time to throw to his quick read route, he either got sacked or got hit as he was throwing causing the incompletion. And it didnt help matters of our WRs dropping the passes that Eli was able to get off to his target.

Obviously on defense we need to defend the pass better. They were way to aggressive today. Going for picks that they couldnt have dreamed of getting, and when its man coverage and you miss that pick there is a good possiblity that there will be nobody to help you. And there wasnt. They also need to tackle better, if they dont learn then its going to be a long season."

Cleveland Browns (2-3) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-5)

The Browns looked to hand the Bengals their sixth loss of the seaon this year, and improve to 3-3 overall and 2-1 vs the AFC North. The all important AFC North games in the perrenial close battle for the conference crown. As the Browns found out last year the conference games are the games to win.

The Browns made a commitment to the run this game. Taking their first drive downt to get a FG, but also taking 5:06 off of the clock. But it didnt matter to Cincy, as they only took 0:56 to have Dillon break off a 56 yard run for the score. Cleveland could not be happy about the run d as Dillon ran only 9 times but for 96 yards and a score.

Cleveland broke the game open in the second though. Manning hit Davis on a textbook play-action pass, the drive also took 5:00 +. Manning went 18 for 29, 262 yards, 2 TDs and 0 INTs. After getting the ball back Manning hit Jones, not C.J., Kevin, for a 64 yard run, KJ plowed over the Cincy defenders like he was on a mission. Browne later added a FG to end the quarter, making it 20-7 at the half.

Cincy made a valiant comeback in the fourth. Wahington took Palmer's pass 71 yards to the house. Palmer ended up 8 for 15 with 215 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs. The Browns were forced to punt their next posession, and poor coverage led to a 65 yard return for a TD by rookie Derrik (sp) Strait. Making the score Bengals 21, Browns 20. Cleveland would not give up though, Green who ran the ball 33 times for 117 yards and a TD, took the rock and scampered 34 yards for the go ahead TD, two point conversion failed. But it was deja vu all over again as the Cleveland D could not hold. On another big play Palmer his Washington for a 78 yard TD pass, two point conversion failed. 27-26 Bengals with :38 left. Manning came in and was hoping to show Cleveland what the future was to hold. He took Cleveland down the field and faced a third and 5 with 1 time out and :05 seconds left. A FG would have been a 55 yard try, but another play risked the time running out. But Butch decided to go for a few more yards. At first the play seemed to fail, but Manning did hit Morgan for a catch, Morgan dove to the ground instantly and Cleveland was barely able to get a TO called with 1 second left. Browne would have a shot to make another game winner for Cleveland, this time from 41 yards. Dead Center, Nothing But Net, the rookie kicker comes through on the clutch, Dawson is again pissed, but the Browns win, 29-27 in a AFC North thriller.

Cleveland Browns (3-3) @ Baltimore Ravens (2-4)

Cleveland travled to Baltimore for their third away game in a row. Out for the Ravens were RB Jamal Lewis with a Torn Tricep, and LB Peter Boulware with a High ankle sprain.

The Browns defense was the key to the game for the first time in a long while. After Manning hit Morgan for a TD pass early in the first, McCutcheon intercepted Boller's pass and took it 55 yards for a touchdown.

In the second the Browns D was at it again. This time MLB Andra Davis intercepted Boller, and he took it 79 yard for the score. 21-3 Browns at the half.

No scoring in the third, and only one in the fourth. Boller hit Hymes for a 3 yard TD pass, two point conversion failed. But Baltimore was driving late in the game but was halted by Davis's second INT of the game. Browns 21 Ravens 9

Kevin Bentley had 7 tackles and 2 sacks. Earl Little led the team with 8 tackles. Davis had 4 tackles and 2 INT. Warren added 2 tackles and a sack, as did Kenard Lang. McCutcheon added two tackles to go along with his int.

"Its nice to know that our defense can perform good enough to help us win ballgames when our offense just doesnt have it that day."

Butch Davis.

Cleveland Browns (4-3) @ New York Jets (0-7)

Cleveland tried to win their third straight and improve to 5-3 on the season at the midway point vs the winless Jets. Rookie QB Jacob Lorenzon will start today over Chad Pennigton. (He has started all season for some reason, Chad isnt even hurt /rock )

New York started off the scoring for the game. RB Curtis Martin ran it 4 yards for the TD.

The Browns offense came alive in the second. Browne hit a 38 yard FG to start the quarter. Next Green had a 12 yard TD run, he ran the ball 34 times for 220 yards and 2 TD, 1 Fumble Lost. Browne added another FG, and then Manning hit Morgan for a 14 yard TD pass. Rookie WR got a quick score though on his 99 yard Kick Return. The Browns kick coverage has been horendous this season. 20-14 Browns at the half.

Browne added another FG in the third, the only scoring of the quarter.

Green got his second TD run of the game to start the fourth. It was on a 13 yard run. The Jets comeback would begin. Lorenzen hit Thomas on a 20 yard TD pass, and later in the quarter would hit Moss for a 48 yard TD pass. Nick Browne though would add another FG, to make the final Browns 33 Jets 27.

Lorenzen was picked off 3 times on the day, once by Andra Davis, and twice by McCutcheon. Manning was picked off twice. Morgan brought in 4 passes for 54 yards and a TD. Lang added 3 tackles and 1 sack.

The Midseason Report

At the Browns midpoint of their season they arrive at 5-3, 1 game better than last season, and looking to make another run at the playoffs.

"Our record is imporved, but i dont really think our team has improved that much from last year." Butch Davis said. "Our secondary still gives up too many yards on Pass D, and our defensive line doesnt get enough pressure on the QB. "

"We play in a lot of close games, which hurts the young guys, but they are doing well. And so far this season we have beaten the teams we should be beating. Our record is 5-3, it could easily be 7-1, or 1-7. I dont know if we are really a Super Bowl contender, but i do KNOW that we should be in the playoffs giving it a shot."

Stats:

Manning is 104 for 183, 56%, 1503 yards, 10 TDs, 9 INTs

Green has ran 180 times for 943 yards with 8 TDs
Jones has ran 94 times for 421 yards with 2 TDs

Andre Davis leads the team in receptions with 29, Morgan has 27. Not a lot but then again Cleveland doesnt throw much. Davis also leads in yards with 542, and TDs with 6, he also leads in Drops with 6.

Robert Griffith leads they way in tackles with 33, followed by taylor with 29, Bentley with 28, and DAvis with 27. Lang leads the team is sacks with 5. Warren has 3. McCutcheon has 5 INTs to lead the way, followed by DAvis with 4 and Henry with 3. Clements only has 1 int but has 11 pass deflects and a forcd fumble.

Rookie kicker Nick Brown is perfect on the season at 17 for 17 with a long of 48. On xps he is 20 for 20. Gardocki averages 37.5 per kick, with a long of 51.

Cleveland Browns (5-3) vs. Baltimore Ravens (3-5)

The Browns face the Ravens for the second time this season. And again the Ravens would be without Jamal Lewis who is out with a Torn Tricep.

The Ravens had the #1 Defense in the NFL comming into this game, while the Browns had the #2 Offense. On the other hand the Ravens offense is #24 while the Browns D, while improving, is #28.

Baltimore started off the scoring when backup RB Smith ran it 3 yards for a TD. Cleveland would counter with a TD by its own backup RB Jones, a 29 yard run straight into the heart of the Ravens D. Ravens kicker Stover made a 20 yard FG, and CB McCalister picked off Eli Manning and returned it 41 yards for a TD. Ending the half Ravens 17 Browns 7.

The Ravens looked to be in a good position being ahead at half, but they know the Browns have more than enough firepower to make the comeback.

It didnt look good in the third, the only score was a FG by kicker Browne. Early in the fourth Cleveland would tie the game when Green ran it in for a 1 yard TD run. The two teams went back and forth the whole quarter until late in the game Cleveland was driving to score with under a minute left. It was 3rd and two and the Ravens only had 1 timeout left. Cleveland had the ball on the ravens 30. A stop would give the Ravens one last shot to either tie or win the game. But they were unsucessfull. The Browns got the first and ran the clock down to 3 seconds giving Browne a shot for yet another game winner. The rookie nailed the 22 yarder no problem to give the Browns a win 20-17.

Neither teams passing game was very effective, Boller and Mannig each threw an INT, and had zero TDs. William Green ran 22 times for 107 yards and a TD. Andra Davis had 6 tackles. Ben Taylor had 4 with a sack. Big Money Gerrard Warren had 3 tackles and a sack.

The Browns have been busy in my absence, but im back, this fomat isnt official its just temporary.

News:
Browns sign free agent QB Drew Henson out of The University of Michigan. He will reportedly step right in as the starter over Eli Manning who has been doing a very good job.

"Drew will help us make the run in the playoffs, he has a stronger arm and is more aware, which will lead him to complete more passes."

Butch Davis.

Manning who has been a fan favorite will be in the 2nd string position. Followin him is Grossman then Shaub, the Browns will surely trade 1 or 2 of them next year.

Week 11 @ New England:

Browns win 56-21 on a day that Brady threw 4 ints, 3 all resulting in Browns touchdowns.

Week 12 @ Pittsburgh:
Browns win 19-17 and improve to 8-3 as they won their sixth in a row.

Week 13:
Thanksgiving Day @ Dallas (5-6)

It was a tough time in Dallas for the Browns but they managed to keep it close. Facing their old friend Kelly Holcomb for the first time since the devastating trade. The Cleveland fans labled it Cleveland vs Kelly.

Drew Henson had his worst outing as a Brown this year. Going 18 for 32, 229 yards, 2 TDs and 4 INTs. The first thim he has been under 60% completion percentage, and the first time he threw equal or more INTs than TDs.

"Two INTs were on desperation heves, they didnt play a part in our loss whatsoever." Butch Davis

Holcom on the other hand, went 13 for 21, 233 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT. Not bad at all. His 3 TDs heled propel Dallas over the Browns by a score of 27-21.

William Green ran for 110 yards and 1 TD. His first 100 yard performance in 3 games. Andre Davis continued his good play catching 8 passes for 110 yards. But it was Quincy Morgan hauling in 2 TD catches helping to keep it close.

Antonio Bryant was the big target for Holcomb catching 4 balls for 159 yards and 3 TDs. A great day. Dexter Coakley led the team with 9 tackles, adding a sack and INT. Mario Edwards added 4 tackles and the remaining 2 INTs.

Ben Taylor recorded 7 tackles to lead the Browns. Lang recorded a sack and Henry got the INT.

"We have the offense in place, now we have to greatly improve our Defense if we want to make a run at the Super Bowl. Our pass D is horendous, while we get a lot of interceptions, we still give up too many big plays for scores."

Butch Davis

Week 14:

The Browns are sitting pretty above the AFC North at 8-4, the Steelers are in second at 6-6. A playoff spot all but guaranteed with a win and Pittsburgh loss.

The Titans offense is struggling with WR Derrick Mason and RB Eddie George out for the rest of the season. But it was the Browns offense struggling today. The stiff Titan D held them to just 9 points and 6-16 on third down.

Nick Browne had all the scoring with 3 field goals. The Titans a TD by Drew Bennet, and 2 FGs by Nedney.

Henson continued his poor performing by throwin 2 picks and only 41% completion rate. Green had 94 yards on 24 attempts.

The Browns could not complain about their defensive performance tough. Bentley let the team with 9 tackles. Taylor had 8 and 1 sack. Henry and McCutcheon both had an INT.

Nobody stood out on the Titans d as it was an all around team performance, easily one of the best all season. Miami was the only other team all year to hold the Browns without a TD.

To further hamper the Browns day the Steelers won, moving a game behind Cleveland for the division lead.

Week 15:

Browns (8-5) @ Oakland (6-7)
The Browns tavled to Oakland trying again to take firm hold of the AFC North. But with Pittsuburgh winning early a Browns loss meant a deadlock atop the conference.

The game started off great for the Browns and Drew Henson. He hit Northcutt on a 60 yard TD play to make it 7-0. Oakland could only get a FG on their next drive, but the Browns followed that with a 64 yard TD drive. Henson hit Joppru for a 4 yard TD pass.

It was more Cleveland in the second. William Green ran it in from 1 yard out to make it 21-3. Green ran 20 times but for only 56 yards. Janikowski added two FGs for Oakland to make it 21-9 at the half.

It was a boring 3rd. Nick Browne made 2 FGs, the only scoring of the quarter.

It was time for the Oakland comeback in the fourth. Crockett ran for a 1 yard TD with a two point conversion failed. Cleveland countered again though when Henson threw his 3rd TD pass of the game. He went 16 of 26 for 231 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT. The game ended with a TD pass from rookie QB Josh Harris to Crockett for 9 yards. 37-21 final.

Charlie Garner had a good day rushing for Oakland rushing 16 times for 93 yards, but failed to get in the endzone. Josh Harris ran 10 times for 60 yards. He also threw for 213 yards, but had 2 INTs.

Ben Taylor stepped up big for the Browns D recording 11 tackles. Courtney Brown had 5 tackles and 2 sacks. Warren also had a sack. Interceptions were recorded by Clements and Little.

At 9-5 the Browns stand atop teh AFC North and at #3 in AFC Overral standings. But they are far from in the playoffs with the Colts and Dolphins also at 9-5, and the Chargers and Steelers at 8-6.

2005 Season Preview

Quarterbacks:
The Browns have three young, but capable young quarterbacks. Their average age is 24, and average ability is 80.6 ovr. Drew Henson will lead the team with Eli Manning and Matt Shaub backing him up, two very capable and talented players. Drew and Eli have somewhat proven that they know how to run the O and play in the NFL. The people are calling for Eli after a loss to Pittsburgh in the playoffs and a 1-2-1 preseason. But the Browns arent ready to switch just yet. Grade: B

Runningbacks:
Again the Browns are young, with an average of 25.5. But William Green emerging as a star back in the NFL and is cumming off of his second straithg Pro Bowl, and 1000+ yard season. (1,423 and 1,727). There is no reason he shouldnt accomplish both again and . The Browns are two deep at the RB position with second year back Kevin Jones behind Green. He has already made an impact on this team. Ron Dayne rounds out the Rbs, but he wont see any time at RB unless Green and Jones get injured, although he could see time at fullback. Grade: A

Fullbacks:
Sean McHugh is the only fullback, a second year man. He does well at blocking for both the pass and run. And is very good when you need to pick up that one yard for the first. Grade: B-

Wide Receivers:
The Browns may have one of the best WR cores in the league. Morgan and Davis are the premeire men. While Northcutt and rookie Bam Childress round out the top five. But dont forget about C.J. Jones who had a good end of the year in 2003, he is looking for that year again. The Browns are also looking for a big improvement from last year for Northcutt. Henson is not afraid to throw the ball to any of these guys, at any time. They should keep teams from loading against the run to stop Green, opening up this offense. Grade: A-

Tight Ends:
Bennie Joppru shocased last year that he was more than capable of cathing passes. Look for the Browns to look his way more often this year. Partnered with Aaron Shea these two are solid blockers and pass catchers. Grade: B-

Offensive Line:
They finally got it, a good offensive line. A very good one. Highlighted by free agen pickup Jonathan Ogden the average ability of the Browns line is 85. Solid. But lets hope they dont get hurt, because the backups suck. Look for Adrien Clarke, and Tony Pape to get as much playing time as possible to gain much needed experience, Shaun O'Hara is the only backup worthwhile. Grade: A

Defensive Line:
Welcome to the question mark of the Browns team. The defense. While the D line isnt bad, its not great, its merley OK. Lang and Brown are on the ends, their ability is 83 and 84 respectively. Lang had a prety good year last year, but its time for Brown to get it going. Dan Cody and Isaac Brown should get a good shot at playing too, they are both young with potential. In the middle Gerrard Warren is looking to have a pro bowl type year. Tim Anderson showed glimpses of goodness last year, lest hope he can add to that this year. Darren Scott should see the field often as well. Grade: C+

Linebackers:
They are young, fast and getting better by the day. Bentley, Davis, and Taylor are all solid tacklers with a nose for the ball. AJ Hawk and Chaun Thompson will be in the rotation. Also look for MLB Courtney Watson to make an impact this season after improving greatley in the offseason. These guys are going to dictate how the Defense plays this season. Hopefully it is good. Grade: C+

Corners:
Easily the best part of the defense, Clements, McCutcheon and Henry are three good DBs. After them its iffy, but Sanders should be capable of playing when he has too. They get a lot of picks and have been working hard on thier coverage. Grade: B+

Safetys:
Little and Griffith are the starters. But the aging little better watch out for Chris Crocker who is looking to steal the job away. These are the oldest spots on the team by far with them both in their 30s. But they should be able to do the job. Grade: B-

Kickers:
Nick Browne is looking to return to the Pro Bowl again after missing only 2 FGs all of last season. He is a damn good kicker. The rookie punter Kadlubar should be a good addition. He has a strong leg and has showcased good hangtime. Grade: A-

Overall:
The team is shaping up well. The offense is again the strong suite but the D has improved. The team is looking to make it three straight playoff appearances, but this year expect a little more. AFC Championship for sure, but this teams goal is a Super Bowl. They will need the D to play very well all year, the offense is borderlining on greatness but football in Cleveland later in the season isnt about airing it out. It is about defense and the running game. Only time will tell. The schedule is tough but they end the season with 5 straight home games, a good position to make a playoff run. But the early streak of away games could take its toll. The Browns goal is to win 12 games this year, and win the AFC North. But realistically 10 wins will be good. Prediction: 11-5. AFC North Champs. Loss in the AFC Championship. Grade: B+
