Why is Indiana's head coach not there?

Lots of rumors saying he's fired. Another rumor says IU's top target might be Jay Wright of Villanova.

Yeah that's what ESPN is saying. Most people think he's coached his last game at IU. Who knows for sure, though?

Why? The Hoosiers are ranked (at least were before the three-point Iowa loss) and have gotten better this season. Changing coaches now I think would be a big step backwards getting back to the top of the Big 10.

They've been sinking in the rankings. Coaching carousel now is ridiculous though.

But at least they're ranked. That still a step up from previous seasons. It would be a dumb move to can Davis unless IU simply tanks the last part of the season.

Well, I agree with you. But when Boosters get it in their head that they don't like a coach, for whatever reason, thats it. Too many examples out there for me to even start. Boosters want championships NOW, and don't have the patience anymore to let a coach develop a team.

Indiana fans are not pleased at all with the team. Supposedly some students had planned to protest at the game. People are comparing (http://www.ndnation.com/boards/showpost.php?b=thepit;pid=14697;d=this) him to Bob Davie.

Davis has apparently told the team he is resigning or has already done so.

I guess we'll all find out soon what's rumor and what isn't.

Oh well. I stopped following Hoosier basketball when Knight was canned. I have been out of the state for 20 years now, so I no longer have allegience to them. But I'll get to see Bob coach next week in Lincoln. :)

Indiana has no reason to be ranked anymore. They aren't even top 50 in the nation anymore. Their offense all year has been WAY too simplistic, which means everyone has figured out how to shut them down by now. And their defense has been far from solid or consistent the entire year. They've now lost 5 of their last 6 and I expect them to only continue to go downhill from here. Another loss or two and IU will officially be on the bubble.

Davis was bedridden with the flu. I'm not going to look into it any more than that.

So is it possible that the "Mike Davis Farewell Tour" makes its final stop in Happy Valley this Wednesday? If PSU wins, I wouldn't doubt it too much, that would be the final straw for Davis, losing to a PSU team that has only beaten them twice since joining the Big10 in 1993.

He's not done yet....
Speaking to ESPN.com hours after missing No. 21 Indiana's 70-67 loss to No. 19 Iowa, (he missed a game in the past due to suspension), Davis said he would not resign despite calls for his ouster by a segment of the fan base that reared its head Saturday in Bloomington, and that there are no plans for him to speak to Indiana athletics director Rick Greenspan about his future until season's end.

Well of course he's not going to resign. He won't leave until the athletic department drags him outta there.
