So what are the main differences between open and closed (career) legacy modes? What about subtle differences, like how recruiting goes?
What kind of editing of players is possible with each mode? I want to be able to alter my players physical attributes, even if I can't edit ratings.

In Closed.......

Recruiting is the same........but you will have to step your charisma game up during the years to make it easier for you

Editing players is the same except you can't touch the ratings........you can add accesories, change jersey numbers, change names, etc. I can't remember if you can adjust height and weight, but I think you can. (I only edit jersey numbers and hand out handbands for all players)

You earn your success and it's more rewarding in the closed legacy :D

What about changing settings after you start a legacy, can you do that? Like I may want to change the sim minutes for games after I start one in open mode. Also, can you edit unis and colors in the middle of legacies?

I know you can change the settings within a legacy. I find closed legacy to be more rewarding because you take more pride as the coach in recruiting new players and working your way up the coaching ladder until you get your dream job.

Open legacies are good if you just want to run a legacy with your favorite team or don't want to start out at a really bad program. It also allows you to switch around ratings for different players and even create new players by completely re-editing new recruits if you want.

Well, I am starting an open legacy with Southern Utah, where I went to school. They suck and it will be a challenge, but I don't want to coach other places anyway, and I don't want to ever be fired, especially since I anticipate some bad years.:D

It sounds like you'd like Open legacy more. The main reason is the size issue. Around year 4 or so, maybe sooner you'll notice the players get way tall.

I was year 4 into my Closed legacy with Colgate. I did well and got the job with Air Force.

In recruiting my choices in small forwards were limited so I had to recruit a 7 foot and 6'11 small forwards.

At that point I lost interest in my closed legacy. I noticed other teams were sporting lots of 7 foot front courts. This wouldn't be bad if I could edit my own players sizes and weights along with my opponents.

In closed legacy you can't edit the players height and weight. In open legacy you can.

In both legacys you can adjust sliders on gameplay and rules. You can adjust how long your actual game is and the amount of time on simulated games.

So I started a new Open legacy with the Texas Longhorns. Now I'll be able to chop down 7 foot small forwards down to a 6'5-6'7 range and adjust their weight so they are not 265 pounds.

It sounds like you wouldn't enjoy 7 foot frontlines in 2 or 4 years so I'd go with Open legacy. At least in Open legacy you'll be able to edit the size and weight of your players and that of the computer.
