Hi, I just barely got the game today and have picked Colgate as my team in closed legacy.
Anyhow I'm impressed so far and I like the year round recruiting. Anyhow I figure we could use this thread to discuss tips on improving recruiting.
Like I see my team has 2985 recruiting points
And below it says "Pts/wk" 378.
Does that mean I have 378 points to use that week, or that I'll get 378 new points added after the week?
Anyhow any tips for a recruiting newbie like me would be very appreciated.
Thanks.

I usually jump to recruiting and look for guys that other teams have not recruited yet (at the beginning of the season). When you start you are not going to be able to pull recruits away from many schools that have a head start on you.
I really do not pay attention to the points that I am given so I cant help you with that.

The Pts/week is the # of points that you are allowed to use for that week. When you run out, a pop-up will show up telling you that you are out of points for that week. It only happened to me a couple times when I made a bunch of visits at the start of the season.
As for recruiting tips:
-- Always use the 5 e-mails and 1 phone call each week. This will get you a 1-3% increase in interest depending on the charisma of your coach.
-- Once you know enough about your player's skills, quit scouting him. Instead, save those points to visit him as much as possible. This will increase his interest much more.
-- Offering a player a schollie usually results in at least a 4% increase in interest.
-- When inviting players to a campus, invite as many as possible in the same week. After the 2nd or 3rd prospect, any further prospects you invite will be at no charge to your recruiting points/time for that given week.

Good guideline, LikeWhoa20............I think there is a certain percentage of interest that a recruit has to have in order for you to visit or invite him to your campus........not sure the exact number, but i'm sure it is one.

Yeah I think you can visit anyone once you have contacted them, so long as it's during that fall period. Here's a couple other tips:
-- Don't judge players by their rankings. There are plenty of busts. Judge players by their skills. A center with A shooting and C+ rebounding is not what you should be looking for, even if he is a top 10 prospect. Here's what I look for at different positions:
Point guards: Quickness, shooting, and intelligence
Shooting guards: Shooting, quickness, and offense
Small Forwards: There all kinds of SFs, so I really just look for guys that are good all-around players
Power Forwards/Centers: Rebounding, Leaping, Offense, Quickness
-- If you can't decide between a couple recruits and which to really pursue, look at their priorities. Always go after the guy the has "Feeling wanted" first, since you're most likely to grab his attention when you show how interested you are. Don't convince yourself into chasing a prospect wanting to play at a big school close to home if you're a small school that's 5 states away.

Charisma, charisma, charisma. As soon as you get those attribute points, put them toward charisma if you want to give recruiting a bigtime boost. I have a 2-team legacy with UNH and WIU. My WIU coach was almost 15 games under .500 in about 4 seasons, but had B+ charisma. He managed to pull in a local 4-star center that along with my 6'10 PF is dominating the next two seasons. Following that, I added a point to his charisma and he brought in another 4-star SF who sucks as a freshman, but is rated fairly highly and just needs some more playing time. All I did with WIU was go 19-11 with that center/PF (he was a high 3-star) combo, win the conference tourney, knock off UConn and then get raped in the second round of the NCAA's. My UNH coach is like 3 games below .500 and I can't recruit a 4-star athlete out of Boston to save my life (his charisma is a B, up from B-).
So the moral is put points in charisma if you can. It helps, especially if you have a big market of players to try and get.

Yeah I put all my points into charisma. Then I went after the 4 star World recruits as no one goes after them. All I can do is just call and email but by the time the season ends I might have a shot at them.
Then I go to the 3 star seniors while never going past regional. I request game tape. I have a initial list of about 13 some recruits. Then as the weeks go on I eliminate certain recruits if I'm not in the top 4 and if it looks another team has them wrapped up.
Also its good to go after Junior College transfers who are freshman or at the most sophmores. They're good for filling in spots while waiting for your dream team crop next season.
Right now I'm in contention for a local 3-star 6-10 center with good potential and B rankings in key stats. I'm also #1 at 30% with four 4-star world recruits. I'm only in week 3 so I have a good shot with them at the end of the year hopefully.

co-sign!
I received 4 bonus points (cupcake schedule = 20-8 record, won the SWAC season and tournament, NCAA bid) after my first season with Texas Southern....
....I put all 4 points on my charisma and now it's at B+........now I'm preparing to sign a 4* point guard and 2 3* centers in the early signing period of my 2nd year..........I might have trouble developing them, but before they graduate, I will be at another school :D
BTW.......I started off 2-0 in some preseason tourney (i forgot the name).......and I was whiped off the floor by the Miami Hurricanes 70-47...........and guess who I played in the 4-13 matchup of the NCAA first round? You guessed it...........the U! This time........I kept it close (down 2 at halftime).......then they proceeded go on a 23-4 run on their way to a 84-60 victory....[down]

How do the JC, Sophmores, Juniors, and Freshmans work?

The Junior college guys are just like seniors except they have less years of eligibility available.
You can recruit kids as early as Freshman if you have a idea they're going to be good. By the time they are a senior you can lock them up.
Usually I notice this works for the real Big schools like Duke. They seem to wrap up their signees during the early signing period to start the season. They then use the recruiting time on Juniors and sophmores.
Then next year those Juniors become seniors and sign during the early period, which again lets a Duke team go after Juniors and Sophmores in a endless cycle.
Thats what I've noticed about all those different types.

Nice, it is a great feature that was added though. IMO

Once you can pull this off comfortably in your own legacy.........you have arrived and it's time to start stacking tournament bids. :D

So for the 2K6, which I still have, what kind of interest level should I be looking for? I have a mediocre middle of the pack kind of team. I have about 10 players with an interest between 70-80. I have no one higher. Is that high enough? Can I work them into signing from there? What is a level of interest too low to worry about? I know in NCAA that the odds of signing someone with an interest level of say 70% is extremely low. I don't know how this game works.

I heard that the computer only manages calls and emails for you, but I'm not sure if that is accurate.

I'm in 2K7, but I have gotten people with much lower starting interest than that and gotten them to sign. You gain percentage points with them every week, so if it is early, you have enough time to try to sway them.
I've only coached crap teams so far, but I would say 70% is a high start point compared to what I've dealt with.
