What's the learning curve like on this game? It's driving me crazy. I'm shooting like 16% at best. My wife got it for me as an early Christmas present and I hate it so far. I have never been into basketball video games much. So this is new ground for me. How long does this take to pick up. It sucks that my Chritmas present is beating the hell out of me with UWGB.:p

I only play Coach Mode, but I believe that is where this title really shines. I have a set of sliders that several people are trying out (posted at OS) with good results. Jistic and slybelle have sliders for players like yourself, and LikeWhoa has some posted on this board somewhere.

A lot of people had some learning to do to get used to the controls but most everyone loved them once they got better. As for me, coaching is entertainment enough.

Yeah, just stick with it. If you are stuggling that much go to the practice section and do all the drills over and over. Eventually you will get the hang of it and then it becomes too easy....

I'm starting to pick it up. I still miss way too many shots. I guess I'm still getting the timing down. It feels like I miss an aweful lot of lay ups still. That drives me crazy.

the whole key to layups is starting the layup motion when you are open. this is key but doesn't appear to be obvious when playing. If you start the layup when you have room and space, you will be way more likely to convert even if you end the motion in traffic.

I also think that when trying to make layups and dunks in traffic, just push the shoot button instead of trying to use the shot stick. I have much more success drawing fouls and finishing in general when I simply use the shoot button.

I just figured this out about 2 weeks ago..........I went from 2-5 online before they reset to a 6-2 record just off that alone.

Wow, it is funny you say this. I thought I was the only guy using the shoot button a LOT. I almost exclusively use the shoot button any more. I only use the shot stick when I am deep inside by the bucket OR when I think my guy might dunk it. Other than that, all jump shots, layup attempts, and hook shots are done with the shoot button and my shooting percentages are REALLY high using Whoa's sliders.

BTW Whoa, I have bumped CPU tendoncy to shoot the 3 up by one. I felt I needed to do this because I run so much zone defense. To beat a zone you need to hurt it from the perimeter and I wanted to help the CPU do this. For all of you that don't know this, try out the Box and 1 and the Triangle and 2. You will be VERY surprised :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!

BTW, my wife got me Duke slippers, Duke basketball (authentic) shorts and Duke baseball cap to wear when I play my games :) God I love her ;)

I actually moved it up 2. Check that slider thread and it will explain why. The 3 point tendency is now at 13.

Yeah, me too. I really like it when the CPU gets on a run of 3's at me. Keeps me awake on D.

My bad, I was in a bad mood. I also don't know what you're pointing to, honestly.

When you replied to me above I am pointing to you.

Dude, I don't know what your problem is or why you have an issue with me because I like Duke. Who cares if I am graduate of the school or not. None of that matters or should matter. I would like to go see a Duke game some day but highly doubt I will living in Ohio.

I have been to many Purdue, Ohio State and Michigan basketball games but that doesn't mean I have to be a big fan. Hell, I played football at Purdue but you can find many bigger Purdue fans than me.

Ok, that just makes you a flaky fan. Whatever you want man. Atleast cheer for the boilers in football, since you kind of played for them.

Don't make me decide who you want to cheer for. And don't really count on going to a Duke game, I'm 18, lived in the Triangle all my life, never gotten in. I haven't really tried hard enough or anything though.

[glare] ...........anyway, back to the topic at hand

I suck again. I went out of town for christmas break and forgot everything I ever learned about this game. Oh well, I'll just have to put in some hours over the weekend :)

Actually, I would count that as a blessing! It is like getting the game new all over again :)

Once you get good talent and you get better at this game it does start to get too easy. You naturally start to move the ball around and get the CPU out of position on defense which leads to really, really easy buckets. If you are using WHOA's sliders above I suggest getting use to making the "extra pass". When you do this it usually will open the PF or the C for the go-ahead dunk or layup. Then, the CPU will start crashing hard on them which opens up the SF's layup and then the SG's 3 point shot and last the PG's 3 pointer.

Anymore though I play such a fast pace transition game with my 2 FREAKS on the wings that I can get layups in traffic on command. The D just has no chance against such FREAKS of nature. Only the top, top, top big teams can slow me down any more.

This current season that I am in is really going to be NUTS. I now play 11 deep (which I have never done) which enables me to be REALLY agressive with steals and pushing the ball. I NEVER have anyone close to below 80% energy and I got speed. When I fluster a point guard and they start their turnover fiesta I blow the game wide open every time. I scheduled a bunch of the top 10 teams coming up here so we'll see if anyone can slow these guys down.

Back to your point... Again I would take that as a blessing as you are pretty much playing a new game :)
