The NCAA reduced it's year long suspension of Morriss to 14 games, meaning that he will be back for SEC play.

I'm glad for him, since I think its counter-productive to allow players to test the draft market and then punish them when they return, but I wonder how much hes even going to help UK. Dont they have a handful of big men already? Plus Morris didnt set the world on fire last year. But hes from fairly near my hometown, so im pulling for him.

he was only a freshman last year, and he had a bit of learning to do. I think this season he will be a solid contributor and probably be a pretty consisten double-double guy. Later on during last season he really started getting into a groove, ask Jason Maxiell, Cincinnati's star PF/C Morriss ate him for lunch.
We have a group of big men, but none of them are as dominant down low as Randolph can be, our best producing big man is Rekalin Sims and he more like a 2 guard in a PF's body.

Wow this is HUGE for UK. This will definitely change their season. I don't expect Morris to dominate in his 2nd season like Lamarcus Aldridge currently is doing at UT, but he'll really open things up for everybody else. Now you guys just need Sims to be more consistent and start playing that Hayes role.

I have a big problem with the NCAA allowing him to come back and play. Suspending him for 14 games is absolutely pointless. He will still be able to play around 20 games this year, allowing him and kentucky to hit their stride around tournament time. This is a player who completely disregarded everyone who knew anything about basketball and went to the draft. He had no intention of ever playing college basketball again, until he got slapped in the face by the NBA. He did absolutely nothing to cover his ass so that he could play college basketball again. The NCAA needed to make an example out of him and suspend him the whole year, but now they have just given him a slap on the wrist. He is a disgrace to kentucky and the NCAA as a whole, and he has no business playing college basketball this year.

the NCAA tried to make an example of him, then Tubby went back to them and they decided it was best to reduce the suspension length.
And what is your beef with UK?
Why do you have a problem with UK hitting their stride going into the tourney?

That's because there's nothing you can do to cover your ass. I thought the agent rule was stupid all along. If you're an NBA prospect you need your agent out there trying to find teams interested in you.

To be perfectly honest with you I hate Kentucky basketball more than anything. I'm from cincinnati and every kentucky fan here thinks that kentucky basketball is God's gift to the earth. I laugh every time they lose and cheer for every team they face. It is really just the fans complete disregard for basketball knowledge that pisses me off.

Exactly, it was not a bad thing for them to let him come back. I like the 14 game suspension too.

You could not be a moron and not declare for the draft when you have absolutely no business being in it. Every knowledgeable person in basketball said that he was being a dumbass, but he refused to listen. He then claimed that he didn't know the rule behind agencies paying for workouts. Give me a fucking break, there is no way that he could have thought that is was legal for someone else to pay for his workouts. He averaged 8.8 pts a game and 4.4 rebounds and he thought that he was ready for the NBA. Stupidity alone should keep him out of college basketball, regardless of the rules that he broke.

that's funny, because when he first announced for the draft Chad Ford had him going somewhere between 12-18.

Actions speak louder than words, he wrote that he wasn't not going to get an agent, yet he had an agency pay for all of his workouts and make press releases for him. Seems like he is a little bit slow in the head if you ask me.

the agency did not pay for his workout, the agency payed for 12 workouts for other guys, and one of the guys dropped out. Randolph took that 12th "payed" spot, but then gave the money back to the agency.

He gave the money back after it was found out that he didn't get drafted. He fucked up big time and he is only getting a slap on the wrist. Your argument makes no sense because Randolf did not pay for his own workouts. That means that someone else did. He has absolutely no business playing college basketball this year. He broke the clearly stated rules. All that being said, he is too soft to play at a high level, averaging only 4.4 rebounds a game last year is pathetic. He won't help kentucky that much, they just aren't very good this year.

he was a freshman last season, and he was playing for UK who plays the toughest ooc schedule of any team in the country.
man, you are an angry human being. you should try yoga or soemthing.
and, it does not matter if someone else payed for his workouts. as long as Morriss pays the money back he can keep his eligibility. This is not the first time this has happened. You must really have some kind of unwarranted disdain for Kentucky to be this deeply angry at the situation.
And my argument makes plenty of sense if you take into account that Morris is paying the money back. That is what the NCAA has everyone who "tests the waters" of the NBA do, the NCAA makes them pay back any and all funds that may have been used on their part for workouts and travel.
The reason the NCAA suspended Morris for the whole year is because they did not have any notation of Morris saying he wanted to stay in school. They did not suspend him for the working out on SFX's dime. However when Tubby presented them the previously posted fax, the NCAA changed their ruling, because that was the notation they were needing of Morris wanting to keep his college eligibility.

You probably are right that I have added anger for this situation due to the fact that I really dislike Kentucky, but I have tried to look at this objectively. Randolf did everything that you are not supposed to do after last season. If I remember right there were articles out about how he didn't consult Tubby throughout his decision process. I just feel that this is a kid who messed up big time and I dont think that the punishment is harsh enough. As I have said before my hatred for Kentucky is due to the fact that every Kentucky fan I have ever met thinks that the world owes Kentucky basketball something. I can't stand the ignorance that the Kentucky fans that I have met display. I know all of their fans can't be this way, but I have yet to meet one.

You don't understand how obnoxious UK fans are here in Cincinnati. I cheer for them to lose every time just so I can rub it into the face of all those stuck up fans. They think Kentucky is God's gift to college basketball. I'm not saying it's all the fans, just a large majority of the ones I've run in to.

It is hard to defend a man who is 4 or 5 inches taller than you. Also, it didn't help that last year UC had NO depth at C or PF. Maxiell and Hicks were both playing nearly the entire game because UC just didn't have any extra bodies to throw at them.

Another thing that has always pissed me off about Kentucky is the fact that they refused to play Cincinnati. It is a game that would turn into a very big rivalry every year, but Kentucky wanted no part of it. All the Kentucky fans in Cincinnati then always came out and said that they wouldn't schedule it because Cincinnati wouldn't present a challenge so it would be a worthless game. This was back when UC's teams were lead by Fortson, Van Exel, Martin, and Logan.

that sounds like an avatar bet?
loser of the first game has to keep the other teams avatar up until the second game?
and if it is a sweep either way, the avatar must stay up until the NCAA tournament is complete?

I don't think they refused to play Cincinnati, I think they had a tough enough schedule as it was.
UK is not like other teams. Every year, we play Kansas, North Carolina, Indiana, Louisville and whatever teams we would faceoff with in something like the Guardians Classic or the Coaches vs Cancer.
That makes our OOC schedule this seaso.
Iowa, West VA, North Carolina, Indiana, Louisville, Kansas.
That is before we go into SEC play to face Bama, Florida, LSU and this season Tennessee.
Quit playing like UK "ducked" UC, what joke.
And the record between the two school, UK holds a small 17 game advantage. 28-11.

UK did duck UC. UC tried to schedule them every year throughout the 90's but UK wanted no part of them. This is a game that needs to happen every year, it would be absolutely huge.

On another note, Louisville played MTSU tonight and only beat them 76-68. Looks like that weak early season schedule may be starting to catch up to them as they get into the heart of their schedule.
