2003-2004 first impressions:

The feel right now in Baltimore is if this defense can return to it's dominating form and the offense is able to keep them in games that we are looking at another playoff run. We were able to get a excellent crop of players from this years draft that will play huge roles this season. As of right now though the only rookie that we plan to start right away is Terrell Suggs, with our team only getting 33 sacks in 2002, we need his pass rushing ability to get to the QB and force bad throws.

Billick: I thought the team played very well, are younger players still have a lot of learning to do as their were a ton of mental mistakes that cost us late in games. The thing I'm most concerned with right now is the concussion that Ray Lewis suffered is our last game. It doesn't appear to be serious, but it looks like he will miss the next 3 weeks. The upside is our defense played very well stopping the run as they were swarming the ball carrier before he got to the line of scrimmage. That's all for now we look forward to starting the season.

QB controversy... In a turn of events it turns out that Kyle Boller will get the start over Redman in week 1. Billick said this morning that he feels boller gives them the best chance to win, but if he performs poorly that Redman could see time.

The first quater looked good for the Ravens as it looked as though defense
came out ready to play hard. The first score of the game came way of a field goal
from Jeff Reed to make it 3-0 steelers. The ravens came out running the ball very
well in the second quarter but drives were stalled by 2 interceptions off of Boller.

Pittsburgh was able to score off the tournovers very easily with another Jeff Reed
Field goal and a 1 yard run by Amos Zereoue to cap off a drive that he broke a run
of for 54 yards.The ravens were shut down the rest of the quarter but another interception
thrown by boller gave pitt the ball back with 2 minutes left in which Maddox leads the team
down the field and throws a 45 yards touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress.

AT HALFTIME 20-7 Steelers


Billick at halftime.... we played horrible out there, are defense was giving up
way to many big plays, are offensive line wasn't giving Boller any time to throw the
ball which is why he is throwing int's, and are reviever have to get open.
We plan to come out of the half and try and establish the runing game again.

Are defense came out prepared to play in the second half as we were able to hold
the steelers to just a field goal. The pittsburgh defense did a great job of
stopping Jamal on first downs which forced boller to throw the ball, and the
secondary of pitt did a great job with the help of many dropped balls by the ravens WR's.

With the ravens trailing in the 4th they went to Jamal. On the very first drive
of the quarter Lewis and company drive down the feild and score on a 1 yard run by Jamal.
They went for 2 point conversion on the same play and convertedm, but the
steelers defense was just too much as the shut the ravens out the rest of the
quarter and picked Boller off with 2 minutes to go, and capped the game off with
another Jeff Reed field goal.

ESPN.com reports today that the ravens and the browns have come to terms on a deal
that will send Ed Hartwell and a 2004 1st round draft pick to cleveland in
exchange for their 1st and 2nd round draft picks next year and QB Nate Hybl.

Ravens coach Brian Billick said today after the trade was announced that he
belives that this was a move they had to make for next year. The draft picks
they recieved in the trade will give them the oppourtunity to draft some very
talented young players next year. Now that Hartwell is gone filling his spot at
MLB will be Bernardo Harris who has been a very capable backup.

Cleveland started the game off very hot, with Holcomb completing
all of his passes on the first drive of the game and putting his team
down on the 20 yard line where Dawson would nail the field goal. The ravens
were having their struggles on offense going 3 and out on back to back drives.
The first Raven score came after Ray Lewis drilled WR Quincy morgan who was
coming across the middle of the feild, the ball popped loose and Ed Reed was
able to snatch it up and take it in for 7. In the second quater Jamal started
to heat up and broke a 47 yard run for the score making the game 14-3 ravens.

With a couple of minutes left in the 2nd holcomb led the team down the field again,
but the drive was abruptly ended with a Peter Boulware interception to end the half.

The brown looked to come out in the second half strong but the Ravens D would not have
any of it, continously stopping them and forcing them to punt. The Ravens would break
the game open with 24 yard pass to Todd Heap putting the ravens up by 18. The game would
stay the same untill the 4th quarter when William Green Broke a 35 yard run to put them on
the five, where holcomb would run it in on a Qb sneak. They would go for the two, but
only to be stuffed on the goaline.

The Ravens coming off a big win over cleveland last week, came into this game looking to do the same to the chargers.
San Diego would get the ball first, thier plan early on was to run the ball with LT, but after a few attempts of 2 yards
or less on the ground they had to go to the air and Brees looked good completing two 3rd down passes to David Boston and
Reche Caldwell. Their would momentum would be slowed once they got into the redzone where the Ravens D would force them to
kick a feild goal. The ravens would answer later in the first quater with a feild goal of thier own.

In the second quater it was a different story the chargers offense could not get into a rythem, giving the ravens a chance
to get something going which they did Kyle Boller would hit Travis Taylor in the Endzone for 7 and to close out the half jamal
lewis would cap off a drive with a 2 yard run for another touchdown.

At halftime 17 - 3 Baltimore

the ravens came out into the second half with a already big lead, they got the ball first and went straight down the
feild again on the back of jamal who could not be stopped they would get another 7 points with a 17 yard run by Jamal
right up the middle. The cahargers were staring to get desperate and brees tried to force a throw he didn't have on 3rd down
and it was picked off by Ed reed who took it all the way back to the house making it 31-3 ravens. on the next chargers drive
brees was knocked out of the game on a huge sack by Terrel Suggs. Flutie entered the game with not much better luck as he was
picked of by Gary baxter. The ravens would just run down the clock from here still able to get a touchdown from jamal though with
the chargers D just looking worse and worse.
