Jim Brown takes over ownership of the Cleveland Browns.
Late last night Jim Browns and Randy Learner/MBNA came to terms with each other to sell the struggling franchise for a rumored $10 million dollars. That seems like a small amount of money for a NFL franchise, but we got the scoop on why so low from Randy himself.
"Jim Brown doenst have a lot of money."
The team and rest of the organization will stay in tact. Romeo will remain the head coach. There is not much change, just one of the greatest football players comming back to his team in a big way.

Preseason Week 1 Browns (0-0) vs Giants (0-0)
The Browns hosted the Giants for the first preseason game and Crennel's first ever pro game as a head coach.
It was not pretty, but closer than it should have been as the Browns lost 16-14.
Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 OT FINAL
Giants 7 6 0 3 0 16
Browns 7 0 0 7 0 14
The team looked horrible. Missing open receivers, missing holes, dropping passes. Its a surprise the game wasnt a blow out, thankfully the Giants looked just as bad.
The running game was mearly a thought as Green, Droughns and Suggs combined for 34 yards on 20 attempts. The passing game just as bad, thankfully not worse. Frye and Dilfer were a combined 12 for 33 and 135 yards. Nobody stood out as above and beyond the best of the bunch.
The receivers were the one aspect of the offense that actually looked decent. Edwards had 3 catches for 68 yards, but one drop. Bryant had 3 for 29 yards and a TD. While Northcutt had 3 for 45 yards. Jackson and Heiden each had a drop.
If anything was good it was the defense. It gave up 85 rushing yards to Tiki Barber. 81 of them on a single play. But other than that it was shut down hard nosed the way Crennell likes it. They also only gave up 160 yards passing. A pretty good showing.
Ben Taylor led the team with 9 tackles, including 1 sack and 1 FF. Baxter and Lehan had a INT each. Andra Davis and rookie Brodney Pool each had a sack.
The offensive like alloed 6 sacks, and couldnt open a hole for the RBs to run though. All in all it was just terrible. Every aspect of this team needs to improve if they want to compete. Hopefully next week at Detroit some things will change. If not, Cleveland is going to be in for a long, long season.

Preseason Week 2 Browns (0-1) @ Lions (0-0-1)
The Browns went at it again in week two, this time visiting the Detroit Lions, another team trying to find the winning ways. Well, it wouldnt be hard versus the Browns.
Hampered by early penalties, one deferring an INT by Baxter and another a TD pass by Dilfer, the Browns struggled to get points on the board.
Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 OT FINAL
Browns 0 0 0 7 0 7
Lions 0 3 7 17 0 27
One of the most boring games ever for the first 30 minutes (3 total points between both teams) Over half of the crowd left the stadium in disgust.
It wasnt all lost though. The second half picked up, and it was a new ballgame. Garcia completed a 63 yard TD pass to Johnson, followed by a 55 yard TD run by the speedy fullback Cory Schlesinger.
The Browns had some improvments, but not many. Passing was much much better, and the team did a better job at sustaining drives. Dilfer completed 52% of his throws, while Frye completed 58%.
Rushing was still an issue, neither Suggs nor Green could get anything going. But rookie wideout Braylon Edwards looked as good as ever catching 7 passes for 119 yards.
Nothing overy exciting happened for the defense, which still gave up the big plays. But MLB Davis did have an INT. The O Line gave up 8 sacks on the day.

The Browns Go Shopping, improve D.
The Browns signed MLB Anthony Simmons to a 2 yeard deal worth a reported 7 Million.
http://images.nfl.com/photos/img7813338.jpg
"He bring experience, and some better speed to the team" Jim Brown said "He can play in the middle, or on the outside. Crennell is going to use him where he sees fit.
Although he did not play at all during the '04 season. The Browns feel he can help improve this defense immediatley.
"Im glad to be back playing football, especially in a town that is this passionate about the game." Simmons said. "The team is young, and not very good, but Coach C knows what he is doing, and the organization is on the right track."
The move means that somebody will probably be let go in the near future. The chart now looks like this:
LOLB:
Matt Stewart
Kenard Lang
Nick Speagle
Orlando Ruff
MLB:
Andra Davis
Anthony Simmons
Ben Taylor
ROLB:
Chaun Thompson
David McMillian
Simmons will start, it is just a matter of where at. Davis and him are the only two LBs that are guaranteed to start. The team is very high on Thompson and Taylor, not so much on Lang and Stewart. Look for a possible releaseing of McMillian or Speagle, and a possible trade including Lang. Davis, Simmons, Thompson and Taylor seem to be the main 4 sloted to start. With Taylor possible moving to the outside.

Droughns up for trade, delt to Cardinals.
Reuben Drougns's stay in Cleveland was short lived. He was traded to the "Phoenix" Cardinals last nigt for a 2nd round draft pick. Details of the trade are below:
Browns Get:
2007 2nd Round Draft Pick
Player TBA
Cardinals Get:
Reuben Drougns
2007 3rd Round Draft Pick
The departure of Droughns means that Green and Suggs are guaranteed the #1 and #2 RB spots. Sultan McUllough moves into the #3 position.
Droughns was said to be fumming when he left the stadium, claiming that the Browns only traded him because he was black. And that he was calling up the reverand himself, Jessie Jackson. [rock]
"Good luck with that" Brown told reporters. "He was upsted because he wasnt getting carries in the preaseason, even with the struggles of Green and Suggs. But he work ethic was horrible, and he never ran hard in practice."
It is the Cleveland Browns Organizations goal to be 100% caucasion by the 2010 season. [laugh]
Thats a joke.

Cleveland Browns vs Cincinnati Bengals Preview
The Bungles travel to Cleveland this Sunday to face off with the Clowns in a game that should be won by Cincy, but could easily be taken by the Browns.
The Bengals have had slow starts the past two seasons, while the Browns have perrenially overracheived the first few weeks.
The Bengals come in with no injuries, and a QB in Palmer who is looking to silence the doubters. On the Browns side, Winslow is out, and they are just looking to get the organization on the right track.
Line: Cleveland 3.5 - Cincinnati
The is a hard one to pick, but I will go with Cleveland on this one. They play good in the beginning of the season. And almos always win 1 versus the Bengals. It is basically a pick.
Browns 30 - Bengals 24

Cleveland hosted the Bengals in Romeo Crennels first regular season game as a head coach, and it was a beauty.
The game started off with a bang when starting tailback William Green broke off a 43 yard TD run to put the Browns up 7.
Carson Palmer and his crew couldnt do much against the Browns D. All they got in the first half was a FG in the second quarter. Palmer was 16 of 36 for 239 yards, 1 TD and and INT on the day.
One of his INTs was taken back for a TD by Baxter late in the second quarter. Making it 14-3 at the half.
The second half started off much better for the Bengals. Palmer threw a TD pass to Cliff Russell on their first posession, bringing the Bengals whithin 4 of the Browns.
The Bengals continued the comeback trail in the fourth quarter, pounding away at the Browns D with Perry and Rudi J. The combined 22 rushes for 93 yards and a TD (Perry). The TD made the score 16 to 14 after the missed conversion.
The Browns wouldnt fold though. Dilfer led the Browns down the field knowing they only needed a FG to win it. But they would do better. Dilfer hit Edwards in the endzone for his first ever TD reception and the lead. And that would be all the Browns needed. Taking the home opener 21 -16.

Week 1 Press Conference:
Q. How come you never released an official depth chart after the preseason.
RC. We wanted to keep teams guessing. There wasnt really any difference between the preseason one and the regular season one, except for the addition of simmons. All LBs play anyways.
Q. Was the team fined for not putting out a depth chart?
RC. No, Jim Brown doenst have much money.
Q. Talk about individual performanses if you would.
RC. Where to begin, well. QB:
Trent Dilfer - Played OK, not great. 2 ints is not good luckily our D held them from scoring off of them.
William Green - Had an exceptional game, did nothing wrong. We can only hope that lasts all season.
Braylon Edwards - Led the team in receptions and TD catches. Was clutch. He looks like a vetern out there.
Gary Baxter - 2 INTs. 1 TD. He did a great job on Chad Johnson. He is looking more and more like an elite shutdown corner as the days go by.
Q. Congradulation on your first win as a head coach. Do you think the Browns can compete and make it to the playoffs.
RC. I dont know, I think we can compete, but im not sure about the playoffs. Some things will have to improve, for one our passing attack. If we cant get that going teams will stack 8 in the box on Green and Suggs and they wont go anywhere. Dilfer doenst have to throw for 300 yards a game, but he has to be able to complete passes and keep the Defenses honest. Like i said, I know this team can compete, and anyone who plays us is not going to take us lightly. But we havent been tested yet this season, it is only one game. Time will tell, but I think the foundation is finally being solidified.
Thank you for your time.

Cleveland Browns @ Green Bay Packers Preview
Cleveland heads off for its first road game of the season Sunday to take on Brett Favre and the Pack Attack. This is another game that couls be a toss up. The Packers Defense is not that great, but their Offense is. On paper the game should be a shootout.
Cleveland D comes into the game on a high after shutting down the Bengals offense. Their offense though knows it needs to improve, especially on the passing side of things.
Favre is looking to make that one last run to and through the playoffs before he retires, look for him to be playing with a purpose.
Line: Cleveland 4 - Green Bay. Over/Under 61
This one could be deceiving. All stats, papers, history etc leads to making you want to take the over. But you just dont know. The Browns passing attack was lost in space last week, and running the ball takes up time. Even if Green Bay puts up 30, I dont think the Browns get more than that.
I am taking the Packers at -4 and the Under.
Browns 24 - Packers 35.

The Browns took the short trip to Green Bay to face off with the great Brett Favre in what could be his last year in the NFL. Both teams seemingly overracheived in the first week, and as it stand one of them is looking to take a surprising 2-0 start to the season.
The Browns gameplan was to stop Ahman Green, and make Favre beat them with the pass. Hoping their secondary could have another game like it did vs Cincy. Green bay won the toss and took the ball. And shoved it right down the Cleveland Ds throat. Green started off with his game high 20 yard run, followed by Favre picking apart the Browns D all the way to the endzone for a touchdown.
That is where it stopped for Green. He was held for a total of 57 yards on 22 attempts, and no TDs. But Favre on the other hand, had his way in this game. He was 18 for 33 and 322 yards with 3 TDs on the day.
Clevelands offense on the other hand was horrific with Trent Dilfer in the game. The managed 3 first half FGs to keep it close, 13-9 at the half, and give them a chance in the second half.
Dilfer would not get the chance to bring Cleveland back though, he was benched in the second half in favor of Rookie Charlie Frye. Frye led the Browns to 10 points in the third quarter, while the D held Favre to one TD pass. Making the score Browns 19, Pack 20.
Knowing they werent out of it the Browns stuck with the tough running of Green and Suggs (30 rushes, 151 yards) and the short confident passes of Frye. The added and early 4th quarter FG to go up 22 to 20, and hoped the D could hold.
Favre though would work his magic again. He led the Packers down field and eventually hit Terrence Murphy on a 35 yard TD pass to put the Packers up 27-22 with 3 minutes to go.
Frye would stay in the game, and face his first ever comeback situation as a professional. Frye connected with Bryant for 33 yards and Edwards for 17. A 9 yard run by Suggs and the Browns were in scoring position. That is when Frye connected with Bryant in the corner of the endzone for a TD and the lead. The conversion failed. But it didnt matter, the Browns helf off Favre and the Packers for their second straight win.

It was the annual Cheech and Chong celebration in vegas this week and the line shows it. 10.5? Thats it? Ill bed my life savings on the Colts this week.
Sorry Browns fans, but dont get used to this undefeated leading the divisinon stuff. You playd a perennial slow startig Bengals team and a Packers team with swiss cheese holes in the D and a QB on social security.
The Edge was out for the game, but it didnt really matter.
His replacement, Rhodes ran for 142 yards on 20 attempts, throwing in 2 TDs to pad his stats. But the stat of the day was Mannings 6 passing yards in the first half. SIX, no wonder Rhodes went crazy on the Browns D.
Dilfer wasnt much better for Cleveland, 14 for 28, 130 yds and 3 ints. Frye came into the game, again, but still isnt starting, but should, and threw for 126 yards on 11 throws. Including a TD to Bryant, and 1 INT that went off of FB Terrelle Smiths hands.
The game was over in the second half once Manning torched the Brownd D for two quick TDs. Lee Suggs broke off a 59 yard TD run for the Browns, but that was about the only highlight they had.
The Browns have to look at the good things of the season so far. They can compete for the most part, and arent the shit everyone thought they would be. Edwards and Frye look to have lots of potential and are playing well. Green is running the ball good, and the D has shown glimpses of greatness.
Romeo's Thoughts:
There is no QB controversy, but Dilfer knows that he is on a short, very short leash. He cant throw 3 ints, that just puts us out of the game. We need to sick with our gameplan more and run the ball with Green and Suggs. Other than that I was please with the D the way they played in the first half, they just got tired out in the second. Too many turnovers kept them on the field and Manning knows how to take advantage of that.
