When I moved to Cincinnati when I was 13, I had hoped to play football in HS and then college, and maybe even the pros. But Freshman year, I dropped back to pass, and my left tackle couldn't stop the bull rush coming from that side and got rolled over backwards. As he landed, he rolled up my left leg, blowing out my knee. After that incident, I couldn't trust my lineman anymore. I stopped playing after my sophomore year. But I could never get that feeling back. The feeling you get when you play the game, and when you throw the TD pass. When I graduated, I told myself that I would walkon to a college team and try myself one last time. So, I contacted the University of Cincinnati, I knew they needed a QB since Gino Guidugli graduated. They told me they would give me a shot, and that was all I needed to hear.

I showed up to the campus with a nervous pit in my stomach. I hadn't played at game speed since I was a freshman. But I walked into the locker room anyway, and a bald-headed man asked my name and class.
"I'm Keith Foster, Freshman"
"Okay then, go over to Mr. Swanger and he will weigh you and then you can go get your equipment."
I took my time walking to Mr. Swanger. He was a muscular guy. I was overwieght and didn't want to be too embarassed.
"Hey you! In the black T-shirt. Who are you?"
"Keith Foster, I'm a freshman."
Well get over here, I need to get a weight on you.
I step on the scale, afraid to see what it says
275! Boy, where you plan on playin'
Quarterback, sir.
Well don't get your hopes up son. You look more like a lineman to me. Might even serve as someone to weigh the bench down on a windy day.
Yeah, whatever.
I walk over and get my equipment, sit down in front of a locker, and start putting my stuff in it. The guy next to me starts talking to me.
You got a name boy?
Keith Foster. I'm a QB.
Derick Ross. Wide receiver. I'm a senior, so I know a thing or two about how things work around here. I'll give you one tip that will get you into the starting lineup and win us some games.
And whats that?
Throw me the ball. I'll do the rest for ya.
I'll keep that in mind.

It was the first practice, and the team had split and was working some drills. The backs, recievers, linebackers, and DB's were doing pass skelly, and the lineman were off doing something I was glad I didn't have to do. I turned back to watch our QB throw the ball about 5 feet over the reciever's head, into the waiting arms of a DB. Coach Treadwell started yelling at him for a while, and then told me to get in there. On my first pass, I saw Derick going deep, so I threw him the ball. He caught it over the short DB that was covering him, and would have scored a TD.
Nice throw, Foster. Do it again. Coach Treadwell told me.
So I did. Derick Ross open deep for another big play. The next play I tried throwing the quick slant to the reciever on the other side, but the bullet pass bounced off of his hands. I completed a pass to the TE and one to a back before handing the reigns over to the next QB.
After practice, Coach Treadwell called me into his office.
Kid, I want to know, where did you play High School?
Well, uh, sir. I didn't play in High School after my Freshman year.
Why, what happened?
I blew out my knee as a Freshman, and I couldn't bring myself to stay in the pocket again after that. I think now that memory is further out of my mind and I can return to being productive.
Well, I hope so, b/c if you can stay in the pocket, you'll start for us. You have by far the best arm here.
I will sir, and thank you the chance.

Well, let me tell you. The dorm rooms here on campus really suck. I sometimes wonder if mine was built for Gary Coleman, it is so small. Of course, I've been here for almost 3 days and it is already a mess. I have already met a girl. She was great that first day here at the party, but now that I have sobered up, she looks like Charles Barkley with boobs. [down] God I hope there are better looking girls here than her, I don't really want to get cozy with this broad.
Luckily, they gave me a computer. It has all of the stuff I need to know on it. They gave me a list of the roster, so I can finally call people by name, instead of "Hey you" and "You over there". That should help things in practice.

I got a call in my dorm. It was Coach Dantonio, he wanted to talk to me in his office. So I walked over there, hoping I wasn't gonna get cut or something. I knocked on the door and opened it.
You wanted to talk to me coach?
Yes, I did Keith. Sit down.
I believe you have made an aquaintance of Coach Treadwell, correct?
Yes, I have.
Well, he has told me that you have the best potential of any of the Qb's here, and has advised me to start you in our first game.
Awesome
However, if you do not perform, I'll have the short leash on you, and you may not last too long. We have a lot of QB's but we all want to see what you will do in a game situation.
Thank you, sir.
I want you to go back to study your playbook hard. I don't want to lose much of it for the Eastern Michigan game.

The Eagles of Eastern Michigan recieved the opening kickoff, but their opening drive stopped abruptly when MLB Leo Morgan intercepted a Matt Bohnet pass. Cincinnati capitalized on the turnover with a Butler Benton TD run from 1 yard out. EMU punted again on their next drive, but RB Brad Glatthaar fumbled, giving EMU great field position that they capitalized on, scoring on an Anthony Sherrill 28 yard run. A pair of punts ensued, but Keith Foster and Derick Ross hooked up for 58 yard TD pass just before the quarter ended.
1st quarter score: 14-7
An INT by LB Jon Carpenter led to a Kevin Lovell Fg from 25 yards away. EMU answered with a long drive that ended with a pass from Bohnet to Mark Borders. Cincy once again drove, slowly but surely leading to another FG from Lovell.
Halftime score: 20-14
The second half started slowly, but an INT by EMU linebacker Brandon Watkins led to another Anthony Sherrill TD run. Cincy answered with a pass from Foster to Earnest Jackson. LB Angelo Craig intercepted a pass on the next EMU drive and that led to Lovell's 3rd FG of the game. Matt Bohnet got one more long TD pass before the quarter ended, again to Mark Borders.
3rd quarter score: 30-28
Butler Benton opened the 4th quarter with his second TD run, and EMU was forced to punt on their next drive. PR Mike Daniels returned the kick 54 yards for a TD. EMU was forced to punt again, and Cincy proceeded to pound the ball. Their drive ended with Brad Glatthaar making up for the earlier fumble scoring on a 12 yard run. EMU tried coming back, with Bohnet hitting AJ Bennett for a TD, and Anthony Sherrill scoring the 2-pt conversion. The onside kick was recovered by Cincy, and they ran out the clock.
Final score: 51-36

Cincinnati recieved the opening kickoff, but they couldn't get a drive going and had to punt. Penn State answered with a TD run from Tony Hunt. Cincy was able to answer with a long drive of their own ending in a 10 yard pass from Keith Foster to Bill Poland.
1st quarter score: 7-7
Penn State had an answer for Cincy once again, with another Tony Hunt run. Both teams exchanged punts, but on Cincy's return, Mike Daniels fumbled and PSU fell on it, leading to a Patrick Humes FG. When Cincy got the ball back, Foster found Brent Celek open and he ran a few people over en route to a 76 yard TD pass.
Halftime score: 17-14
Nothing much happened. Neither team could get much going, and the punters got a lot of work.
3rd quarter score: 17-14
The punt fest continued into the 4th quarter, but PSU caught a break when Mike Daniels fumlbed his second return of the game and PSU recovered, leading to a Humes FG. Keith Foster threw an INT on the next drive to ROLB#43, and that led to a Dan Lawlor TD run from four yards out. Micheal Robinson threw a pass to TE#22 for the 2-pt conversion. Foster threw another INT on the next drive, and PSU ran out the clock.

"Battle for the Victory Bell
Miami of Ohio came out of the locker rooms ready to play, and forced Cincy to punt on their first drive. With QB Josh Betts suspended, backup Mike Kokal threw to Martin Nance for a 42 yard TD. On the next drive, Keith Foster was intercepted by LB Derek Rehage, who returned it for a 29 yard TD. Foster threw another INT on the next drive, and Kokal found Ryne Robinson for another TD pass
1st quarter score: 21-0
Miami turned up the heat defensively in the 2nd quarter. THey sacked Foster 5 times, putting him onto the bench for a couple of drives. Niether team scored points though.
Halftime score: 21-0
Miami recieved the second half kickoff, and turned it into a TD from Kokal(who the hell is this kid?!?) to TE Tyler Vogel. This was the only scoring this quarter, and the Cincy QB's kept running for their lives.
3rd quarter score: 28-0
The 4th quarter started out the way the other 3 did, with a Mike Kokal TD pass, again to Vogel. Jeff Schroeder intercepted the Foster pass, leading to a TD from "You Know Who" to RJ Corbin. Foster was injured again on the next drive, and coaches decided it would be better if he sat the rest of the game, he will be availible for next week's game. In garbage time, backup QB Tony Pike hit Derick Ross for a TD and FB Doug Jones scored on a 2 yard run.

Cincinnati recieved the opening kickoff and was forced to punt. On UL's first drive, DT Jon Newton forced a fumble and fell on it himself. That led to a TD pass from Keith Foster to Earnest Jackson. Cicny's D stepped up and forced UL to punt on the next drive and Foster hit Derick Ross on a quick screen and Ross turned it into a 58 yard TD. Cincy CB John Bowie intercepted Brian Brohm on the next drive, but the ensueing drive faltered, and Cincy had to punt.
1st quarter score: 14-0
Cincy's defense held on the next drive, forcing a turnover on downs, but Foster threw an INT to William Gay on the next drive. Cincy's D kept the momentum on Cincy's side, with MLB Leo Morgan intercepting the ball right back. This led to a TD pass from Foster to Brent Celek. UL had to punt, and Foster threw another TD pass, this time to WR Bill Poland.
Halftime score: 28-0 [wow]
Louisville recieved the second half kickoff and quickly turned it into a TD, a 69 yard run from Micheal Bush. Cincy responded with a FG from Kevin Lovell. UL was forced to punt on their next drive, but SS Antoine Sharp intercepted a Foster pass and returned it 36 yards for a TD. UL tried a 2-pt conversion, but Micheal Bush was stopped short. Cincy got a drive going, but another Foster INT led to a 15 yard TD pass from Brohm to Bush.
3rd quarter score: 31-20
Cincy attempted to get some yardage early in the fourth quarter, but were forced to punt. Micheal Bush ended a long drive with a 4 yard run, and took the 2-pt in for himself. Cincy had a bit of offense going on the next possesion, but that stalled around midfield and they were forced to punt. UL got the ball back with a lot of field to cover. They slowly but surely moved the ball down the field, but with :08 left, they faced 4th down from the Cincinnati 38 yard line. Brohm went back to pass, and the pass was batted down by SS Haruki Nakamura. Cincy ran out the clock to end the upset

Cincinnati got the ball first, and had a drive going, but were forced to turn the ball over on downs. West Virginia was forced to punt, and Mike Daniels (remember that name, you'll hear it again in a second) returned it 81 yards for a TD.
1st quarter score: 7-0
Another WV punt led to a Bradley Glatthaar TD run, and a Haruki Nakamura INT led to a TD pass from Keith Foster to Derick Ross. WV couldn't get anything going again, and Kevin Lovell kicked a FG to end the half.
Halftime score: 24-0
WV punted to start the second half, and Mike Daniels made his impact felt again, with a 69 yard return for his 2nd TD of the game. Another punt led to Lovell's second FG. Jon Carpenter intercepted a pass on the next WV drive, and Foster took it in himself to end the 3rd quarter.
3rd quarter score: 48-0
The backups entered the game in the 4th quarter, and WV RB Jason Colson was able to finally put WV on the board witha 17 yard run. Mike Daniels wasn't through though, returning the kickoff 97 yards for the final scoring in this ball game.

Cincinnati got the ball to start the game, and got a solid drive going. With the ball near the goal line, Cincy handed the ball to Brad Glatthaar, who fumbled, with Rutgers recovering on the 3. The defense, however, stepped up, and DE Adam Roberts sacked the RU QB Ryan Hart for a saftey. Cincy had good field position after the free kick, but was forced to punt.
1st quarter score: 2-0
RU turned that punt into a drive that ended with a FG from Jeremy Ito. Cincy couldn't answer, but Ito missed a 24 yard FG. Cincy capitalized with a 42 yard pass from Keith Foster to Bill Poland. RU came back with a pass from Hart to Clark Harris. An interception of a Derrick Roberson pass led to a Hart to Shawn Tucker TD pass. Cincy was able to get a FG before time ran out.

Rutgers got the ball in the second half, and drove down for a FG. Cincy answered with a Glatthaar TD run. Rutgers answered back with a long drive that ended with a 21 yard Hart to Marcus Daniels TD.
3rd quarter score: 27-19
Cincy punted to start the 4th quarter, and Rutgers picked up a FG. After Cincy turned it over on down, Ito missed his second FG. Foster found Derick Ross open deep and scored a TD, then Foster hit Brent Celek for the 2-pt conversion. With 1:37 left in the game, Cincy tried to onside kick down by 3 points. There was a mad scramble for the ball, and RU player Derrick Roberson picked it up and got around the corner, scoring on a 51 yard TD. Cincy made a late charge, scoring on a pass from Foster to Celek, but RU recovered the onside again, and ran out the clock.
Final score: 37-34
