[FONT=Arial]Cougar Weekly Update!!!!
[COLOR=Black] Were now only weeks away from the beginning of the 2007-2008 season. for those of you that dont know whats been going on thats ok because were about to bring you up to date.
The ULC Cougars had won the CIS (basically the NCAA only in Canada) 6 years in a row and so because of their dominance they decided to move to the NCAA. After securing a rather lucrative deal with the Big 10 Conference they were ready to start the season. however only two weeks before the start of the season the Big 10 conference officials decided that they didnt want to take Northwestern out and so the Cougars had no where to go except for the 1A Independants. it was a bad start to a season that got worse. Expecting to automatically dominate the Cougars won their first game in fine fashion but in the second game of their inaugural season the only true star player on the team, QB Stuart Hall was knocked out for the next 10 weeks with a broken leg. Although the Cougars won the next game they were in trouble. In the thrid game things became even worse. Second string QB Zach Pritchett was knocked out for the season with a serious concussion. then in the same game the third string QB was knocked out for two weeks with a dislocated shoulder.
The Cougars were then using their 4th stringer and also subbing in a 5th string WR to run the option. the Cougars lost 7 straight games, and even when Hall got back he could not lead the overpowered team to victory. finishing at 2-9
they proceeded to come in at 64th in the country with their signings. Most notably; Cody Rozner and Dewayne Collins (both WR's).
in year two the Cougars were good, finishing at 9-2. though there schedule was considerably easier facing only two ranked opponents. the Cougars played ECU in the Fort Worth Bowl that year.
in year three the Cougars were very good, they had the 34th best signing. and had a much improved defence. however a late season loss to Virginia Tech kept them from a good bowl game and for the second year in a row they played ECU in the Fort Worth Bowl.
during the offseason they said goodbye to Best QB winner Stuart Hall (drafted first overall by the Cincinatti Bengals). however that didnt hurt them because the Cougars signed 24 players for a 13th best signing. year four had a few interesting games that we'll get to next week.
till then this is Cougar Weekly saying goodbye!

Cougar Weekly
One week from the beginning of the season, so lets finish bringing you up to date.
So going into year 4 the Cougars were ranked 32 and were looking at probably the best season yet for them. Freshman QB Steve Morris looked very good in the preseason practices and Junior WR's Cody Rozner and Dewayne Collins had improved big time over the off-season. In year 3 Cody finished second for the second year in a row in Best WR voting. And with new-comers Adrian Baker and Kalvin Maddox (WR's) the team had a great outlook for the season.
Year 4 was the first for the Cougars in the WAC. The Cougars had lots to prove and set off on the right foot with a big win over Michigan early on. The Cougars, who were projected to finish second in the WAC to Fresno State, were keeping pace with FS. it was a tight race with each team winning big over the out-matched WAC opponents. Everytime the Cougars would win FS would win and vice-versa. the conference looked like it would be decided by their week 11 matchup at FS. coming into the game FS was was 8-0 (6-0) and the Cougars were 9-0 (7-0). In front of a National audience the Cougars wooped FS 34-10 and were on a huge high going into Tulsa to play the Golden Wave. However, their cocky attitude going into that game nearly cost them. up 17-3 at the half the Golden Wave offence finally showed up. charging back the 'Wave scored a TD to make 17-10. then late in the third quarter the Coug's were driving when, in the red-zone, Morris was picked off. it looked like their was a clean track to the end-zone but Cody Rozner came up with, what later turned out to be, the game saving tackle at Tulsa's 40. the game ended at 17-10 and the Cougars were lucky to escape with a win. After the game we found out that Steve Morris had been injured in a play late in the 4th quarter and would be out for the rest of the regular season.
So going into the biggest game of the season at Virgina Tech the Cougars were starting back up QB Cedric Jenkins. Coach Shawn Landers was, however confident that they could still win. and so with their undefeated season squarley on the shoulders of Freshman QB Cedric Jenkins the Cougars went to VT to play their rivals in what would later be called the "Showdown in Hokie Town".
The prime time matchup between the #1 University of Lower Canada Cougars and the #4 Virginia Tech Hokies was one that will not soon be forgotten. that cold night the Cougars came into town as 2 point under dogs and were looking forward to the matchup between the #10 offence of VT and the #1 defence of ULC. VT came flying out of the gates and raced down the field only to be stopped at the 25 by a stout ULC defence. The Hokies kicked the field goal and went up 3-0. Cedric Jenkins was mainly handing the ball off to HB Bret Whittaker (the only HB for ULC to get over 1,000 yards in a season) who was being stopped by the #4 defence of VT after only a few yards every down. so forced to try and pass with Jenkins the Cougars slowly meandered their way downfield until..... Landers called the reverse tripple option, and Jenkins kept the ball a second too long and was nailed. Jenkins was diagnosed with a concussion a was out for the game. right now we bet your thinking well thats not that bad because they just put in their 3rd stringer right. wrong, ULC had no 3rd string QB, George Gill was red shirted (D'OH!), so now down 6-0 after another VT field goal it was up to 5th string CB Omar McCord to try and run the option. Like the late Broncos of Denver the ULC offence tried to trick play themselves down the field. it didnt work however and they went into the half discouraged and down by 6.
The Cougars got the ball to start the half, but it looked like nothing had changed as they still couldnt move th ball. VT went down the field and kicked another FG to go up 9-0. things were now looking bad, down by two scores the Cougars took drastic measures and then, a miracle! on a pitch to the half back throw back to the QB Corey Landry threw the ball to McCord who moved down the field for 30 yards and set up a huge score for the Cougars as Whittaker took the ball in from the 4 to make it 9-7. to start the fourth it still wasn't going to well for ULC, however their D was playing magnificantly and they got the ball back with 2 minutes left on the clock. It was time to start "The Drive" moving down the field with little runs and screen throws the Cougars were getting close to FG position. at the 40 yeard line with 48 seconds left and one timeout the Cougars CB was picked off! The drive and the game were over. the Cougars done. 9-7 was the final in a heart-braker.
the Cougars played in the Orange Bowl, but seemed to still be demoralised and lost by 6 to NCST.
well now that your up to date, next week we'll start our coverage of this season. see you then!

Week 3
National Broadcast
Game Recap:
well this one started off pretty well for the Coug's as they marched down the field rather easily and scored on the first drive of the game with a 3 yard plunge into the endzone by Senior HB Corey Landry. Michigan could just not answer in the first quarter and quickly went down 14-0 on a second run into the endzone by Landry. The second quarter was much different though as it started off with a good drive by MICH and then, after being stopped in the red zone, a FG to make it 14-3. ULC answered with a long drive of their own and then a nice 40 yard field goal by Bob Armstrong (Freshman). At the end of the first half it was 17-3 Lower Canada over Michigan.
In the second half their was only one score by either team and it was Corey Landry for the third time late in the third quarter. That score put the nail in the cofin and comfirmed the upset. The game ended with chants from the crowd of "Over-Rated".

Nevada at #8 Lower Canada PREVIEW
The suprising 2-1 Wolf Pack come to Vancouver this week and it will undoubtebly be a tough game for the Pack."I believe we can dominate this team and i believe we will" said a confident coach Landers after yesterdays practice. however confident the Coug players are they dont seem to be showing it. "I think we can play a good game against these guys and it might be a close one. Ya gotta remember that last year we walked into Tulsa expecting to blow them out and almost lost" said QB Steve Morris. Either way the Coug's will have their fisrt WAC game tomorrow night and it should be worth watching.

Nevada at #8 Lower Canada
Game Recap:
The Coug's got the ball to start the game and went down the field with a four minute drive to score a touchdown. 3:57 left 7-0 ULC. then Nevada drove down the field passing the ball very well against a tough defense, but was eventually stopped and forced to kick a FG making it 7-3 at the end of the first. not exactly what Coach Landers was looking for. The second quarter didnt prove much better for either team as the only score of the quarter was a 39 yard FG by Bob Armstrong (FS) making the score at half time 10-3.
"We gotta play better on offense this half or we really could lose this game" said coach Shawn Landers at the end of the first half. And the Coug's listened. exploding out of the gates to stop Nevada on their first drive of the half. the Coug's marched down the field to score a touchdown. A beautiful pass from Steve Morris to FB Sylvestor Milton. Nevada was forced to punt on their next drive and ULC capitalized with a 48 yard strike to WR Justin Woodson (JR). then to end the quarter and basically the game, Nevada QB CJ. Lamb was knocked out of the game eliminating all chances for a comeback. In the fourth the Coug's put up 24 points on the demorialised team including a 77 yard INT return by star MLB Ulysses Frye and a 47 yard FG by Bob Armstrong.

i've been reading. very good, especially since it's CANADIAN CONTENT!! :D the one question i do have which i'm not sure you answered was what was the original prestige when you created the team?
good dynasty, though. are you the only other canadian member on this board aside from me? anyway, since i'm rambling on about canada, go leafs go. and go canucks go, i guess... /oops
wolverine boy
11-19-2003, 01:34 AM
hey thanks for the cred rosenbluth! yeah i think we are the only canadians on this board. which is wierd cuz im sure lotsa ppl have the game cuz its sooo good. so when i started my dynasty i started with a 1 star cupcake team and now their a 4 star team.
so for the other ppl that read this what do you think?
i'll prob post tomorrow with updates for the next 2 weeks but we'll see.
thanks again rosenbluth

I'm reading too, I just dont post much on dynasty threads unless I'm involved (i.e. player trackers, etc.). While your dynasty looks good, since I missed out completly on the old forums (just found this site last month) I feel like I walked in in the middle of it. I just dont feel the connection to your team yet. I hope you dont take offense to this, because your dynasty is good.

hey thanks bucks07. yeah i dont mind that you dont reply its just that every once in a while i wanna know what you guys think and i wanna know if im doing this while no one is reading it. hmmmm. im not offended by your comment just a little surprised. maybe if you could fill me in on why you dont feel connected i could change things. did you read the preseason posts that got ppl up to date? i try to put in little stories about the players though i dont post ratings much cuz im tryin to keep it as journalistically real as possible. any way thanks for feed back! hope ya keep readin

Its probably more my fault than anything you can do that I dont feel the connection. You have a great background story (about the move from the CIS and all that) I just havent had time to read a lot of these. Mostly when I've been on it was to check my guys in Roll Tide and now jedite's player tracker, and I've just kinda skimmed through most of the others. Anyway, my school quarter is over at the end of this week, and we get like 6 weeks off in between(gotta love the Ohio U break) so I'll try and give you more feedback after that, I understand how it could be frusterating to do all this and get no response.

Week 8 Preview: #7 Lower Canada at Rice
Well this game on paper looks like a blowout and it probably will be. "We played our best game of the season last week but we still had a little trouble stopping the pass." said coach Shawn Landers who i looking for win number 40 this week against Rice. "well we won big last week but it might have been closer if their QB had stayed in the game, which is why we need to play even better the is week." said Senior MLB Ulysses Frye. The player almost everyone will be watching this week is Junior Free Safety Danny Cherry who needs only one more interception to break the all time career interception record in the NCAA. Good luck to the Coug's and also to Danny who will hopefully break his INT slump and get one this game.
